Dave panted as he opened his eyes. He was paralysed and was on a bed. A hospital bed.
He had oxygen over his nose that helped him breathe. Drips were on his body. He was in a critical medical state. Almost at death's door. He couldn't move any part of his body. He could only stare at the ceiling. The memories of his wife sleeping with his friend came to him. He even recalled his wife telling his friend, Ray, to push him from the stairs . He remembered the fact that he was in this critical state because of them. Then the door opened as Jane and Ray walked in. The two were shamelessly holding hands while staring at the pathetic Dave in bed. Dave stared at them in fury. His breath became unsteady. Jane and Ray could only smile as they looked at Dave. "I never believed you'd survive that fall. I guess you're strong after all" Jane mocked. "Even for a cripple, you're indeed strong my friend" Ray added . Ray walked up to Dave and placed a hand over his head "How are you doing my friend?" Dave couldn't talk. He was disgusted by Rays's hand on his head. He simply shakes his head to remove Ray's hands. Ray removed his hands, laughing. At this point, A drip line has already fallen from Dave's sick body. "You shouldn't be too moody. Smile a bit, it's good for your poor health" Jane said. "And maybe that would save your pathetic state" Dave tried to talk but couldn't. He was paralyzed. His veins popped out, his skin was red and he looked furious. Ray observed Dave "It seems your crippled husband doesn't seem happy with us. And he might need some explanations to clear him up. Since he's also so dumb" Jane smiled "Really? Then..." Jane said as he kissed Ray deeply in front of Dave. It was a long and passionate kiss. She looked at Dave in bed "You should know that I've been sleeping with your dear friend here. Since when? Maybe for years now... we've been a thing" She laughed. Dave was stunned. He could only glare at them angrily but not talk. "You look funny right now Dave" Ray laughed "Didn't you expect that you'd be cheated on?" Ray continued "How can a useless crippled man like you expect your wife to stick with you alone? A beautiful lady like this can't be punished with spending her life with someone as useless as you!" Jane smiled "Exactly" She walked up to Dave and grabbed his jaws "You are useless to me. Financially, I don't even need a pathetic cripple like you" Jane continued "Can't you see that I'm already a successful lady? I'm the president of my family's company and I have lots of influences and power in the city!" "My network keeps increasing daily.. so what makes you think I'll keep you forever?" She laughed "You're a useless burden to me. A crippled man who can't contribute financially to me, not even romantically or so!" "You're just an embarrassing burden I carry around. You only take up space in my life!" Dave was shocked. He couldn't believe Jane would say such. After all they have been through together. After all the help he had offered to help her to this position. Even the fact that he became crippled because of her! Dave never imagined this day would come. He could only stare at her in shock. Ray came to hold Jane by the waist while staring at Dave. He said "Your status is nothing commendable at all. Not to talk of your presence, you're just an embarrassing burden, so don't be too proud as a useless disabled" Ray continued "You make it seem as if you're a toad trying to eat swan meat. Trying to climb the social ladder Shamelessly using Poor Jane. "That's embarrassing enough. People like you do belong in the hospital!" Dave could only stare at them in disbelief without talking. The two people he trusted the most. He never believed they'd say this. Especially Ray who always encouraged him in his condition. He never believed he'd say such words to him. "Well really, I do pity a pathetic fool like you who thought you had it all even in your useless state" Jane said "I would have let you off ... But it's sad that you already know too much. A little bit too much" Jane added Ray nodded "True. Letting you off easily would give you an opportunity to try exposing and fighting against us" "And we don't want that. So we'll have to take preventive measures" Jane folded her hands "Then I think we should go ahead and eliminate you. Don't you think so?" Dave glared at Jane. He watched as she walked up to him and removed the oxygen over his nose. Immediately, his breath began getting unsteady. He was struggling to breathe while shaking endlessly in bed. The drip pins on his hands were all falling off and he was bleeding in bed. Jane and Ray casually watched at the side, laughing. "Too bad, he was somewhat a kind and sweet soul" Jane said "But was too naive. Useless, naive, poor and dumb" Ray laughed as he casually said to Dave "In your next life, try not to be too dumb" Ray said with a smile as he held Jane by the waist. Both laughed, kissing and cuddling as they walked out of the room. Dave lay in bed, shaking and struggling to breathe. But it was impossible to survive now. He was slowly losing consciousness. He died. ******** [Beep!!] [Welcome! You've successfully Awakened An SSS- LEVEL ABILITY] [Would You Like to Activate The Pay- Back System Now?]Latest Chapter
598: Signed with words.
Dave picked up the documents and carefully began reading through them.He didn’t rush the process. Instead, he took his time, going through each page with quiet focus, making sure every detail was exactly as it should be. His expression remained calm and composed, giving nothing away about what he was thinking.Across the table, Mr. Yale sat silently. He watched Dave without interrupting, his gaze fixed on the documents in Dave’s hands. There was a subtle tension in his posture, a kind of quiet unease that he couldn’t fully hide. The weight of everything that had happened lingered heavily in the air between them. After a while, Dave finally placed the documents down.He didn’t sign them immediately.Instead, he leaned back slightly and looked directly at Mr. Yale.“If you had an issue with me,” Dave began calmly, “you should have come to me directly.”His tone was steady—not harsh, but firm enough to carry meaning.“There are many ways to compete with someone,” he continued. “Healthy
597: Settlement
Mr. Yale didn’t give up.After the failed phone call, he knew he couldn’t afford to wait any longer. Time was no longer on his side, and every passing moment only brought him closer to the deadline that had been set for him.So he made a decision. If Dave wouldn’t come to him—Then he would go to Dave.Without hesitation, Mr. Yale made his way to Dave’s apartment. The journey there felt longer than it actually was, his mind filled with anxiety, fear, and desperation. By the time he arrived, he was already worn out—not physically, but mentally.Still, he raised his hand and knocked on the door.A few seconds later, the door opened.Dave stood there.Calm, composed, and completely unbothered. He looked at Mr. Yale briefly, his gaze scanning him from head to toe before settling on his face.“What are you doing here?” Dave asked casually.Mr. Yale took a breath, clearly trying to steady himself.“I came to see you,” he said. “Since you said you were busy earlier… I decided to come in pers
596: Set Plan
“That’s the only way I can even consider sparing you,” Mr. Dan said with a sigh. His tone was calm, but there was no softness in it. “It’s as simple as that.”He paused briefly, his gaze fixed on Mr. Yale.“Because I cannot stand to look thieves like you in the face,” he added coldly. “You disgust me.”Those words cut deeply.Mr. Yale lowered his head slightly, his expression strained as he tried to process everything. His mind raced, searching for an easier way out—something that would not cost him everything he had taken.“Please…” he said again, his voice filled with desperation. “I’ll pay the fine. I’ll do that. Just… please consider it. I’ll make it up to you in any way you want.”But Mr. Dan immediately scoffed.“It seems you’re still not taking this seriously,” he replied. There was a sharp edge to his voice now.“I’ve already told you what you need to do.”He leaned slightly forward, his eyes narrowing.“I’m giving you three days,” he said firmly. “Three days to return everyth
595: Condition
“Please… forgive me!”Mr. Yale’s voice trembled as he remained on his knees, his hands slightly raised as though reaching for something he could no longer grasp.“It was a mistake—a careless mistake! I didn’t mean for any of this to happen,” he continued desperately. “Please, just forgive me! I’ll pay for everything. I’ll fix it. I’ll do anything you want—anything at all!”His words came out in a rush, one after the other, as though he feared that if he paused, he might lose the little chance he believed he still had.“Please… just forgive me,” he repeated again, his voice lowering. “You’re already safe now… nothing happened in the end… so please…”He kept going, trying different angles, different tones—pleading, explaining, promising. But none of it worked.Mr. Dan wasn’t listening. Not even a little. He sat calmly on the bed, watching Mr. Yale with an expression that was almost unreadable at first glance. Then, slowly, a faint smile appeared on his face—but there was no warmth in it
594: Pleading
Dave handled the treatment with complete professionalism. From the moment he stepped in, there had been a noticeable difference in the atmosphere. The earlier chaos had gradually been replaced by a more controlled and focused rhythm. Every instruction he gave was clear. Every movement he made was deliberate.Time passed steadily. The tension in the room remained, but it was no longer driven by confusion—it was driven by anticipation. And then, after what felt like a long and exhausting process, it was finally over. After about an hour, Dave completed the procedure. He stepped back slightly, removing his gloves with calm precision before disposing of them properly. Without rushing, he moved toward the sink and washed his hands thoroughly, his expression composed as though everything that had just happened was well within his control. The room remained quiet. The doctors and nurses watched him, some of them still processing everything they had just witnessed. There was relief in their e
593: Kicked out
Shock and silence filled the room. The tension that had already been building reached its peak as every single person present turned their attention toward the entrance. For a moment, no one moved. No one spoke. They all stared.Dave had just walked in.He moved forward calmly, as though the chaos in the room meant nothing to him. His steps were steady, unhurried, and completely controlled. There was no sign of panic in his expression—only a quiet confidence that stood in sharp contrast to the disorder around him.A faint smile rested on his face. His gaze swept across the room briefly before settling on Mr. Yale.Their eyes met.And in that moment, the difference between them was clear.Mr. Yale looked shaken.Dave did not.“What the hell are you doing here?” Mr. Yale demanded, his voice sharp but lacking its earlier authority. “How did you even get in here?”Dave tilted his head slightly, his smile remaining.“Is that really what you should be asking right now?” he replied calmly.H
