Chapter 57
Vivienne stood frozen on the jet stairs. “Damon?” she repeated, disbelief flooding her voice. She stared hard, as if her eyes were playing tricks on her. Maybe she wasn’t actually seeing Damon right now—maybe it was just a hallucination. But after blinking twice, he was still there. Damon, with the same expression on his face, was standing in the private lounge and looking straight at her. That’s when it hit her. This wasn’t an illusion. Damon was really here. Vivienne’s mind spun in confusion. Why would Damon be here? Deep down, she knew he had no reason to be. He wasn’t supposed to know she was arriving today—let alone wait for her in a private lounge just to catch sight of her. It made no sense. And that’s exactly why it shook her to her core. “Wow. Unbelievable,” she muttered, arms folding tightly beneath her chest, her lips curling into a smirk. “So, the almighty Damon somehow found out I was flying in today. And because he missed me, he came to the airport to welcome me?”
Chapter 56
The first light of dawn had yet to break when Damon slipped out of Celia’s room, leaving her in a deep, peaceful sleep. He didn't need sleep; the memory of her whispered dream of seeing Vivienne Ashford was enough to fuel him. It was a foolish, dangerous idea, but the thought of the smile it would bring to her face eclipsed all his reservations. He stepped outside into the cool, pre-dawn air and dialed a number. It was answered on the first ring. "Sir?" Anthony’s voice was crisp, professional. "Vivienne Ashford arrives today," Damon said, his tone leaving no room for questions. "I need access to the private terminal at North Star Airport. A discreet viewing lounge. I want Celia to see her arrive." There was a beat of silence on the line, a hesitation so slight only Damon would notice it. Anthony knew the history, but he knew better than to ask questions. "Of course, Sir. I will arrange it immediately." "One more thing," Damon added, his voice firm. "This is a surprise for
Chapter 55
The pillows lay between them like a wall, but they did little to ease the tension in the air. Celia lay on her side, facing away from Damon, trying to control her racing heart. She could feel his presence behind her, solid and warm, separated only by the flimsy barrier of pillows. Neither of them moved, both pretending to be relaxed while being acutely aware of each other. "Thank you again for the advance payment," Celia said softly into the darkness, breaking the heavy silence. "I know it's unusual for Vespera to pay so early, but I appreciate that Anthony Williams did this because of your relationship with him." Damon remained quiet for a moment. He could correct her, tell her the truth that the money came from his personal account, but something held him back. "You don't need to thank me," he finally said. Celia shifted slightly, the mattress dipping with her movement. "I do, though. You don't know how much this helps my family." She paused, taking a deep breath. "I should proba
Chapter 54
Celia didn't know why she felt sad when Damon said they were friends. Maybe their act had felt so real that his words caught her off guard. But she quickly pushed the thought away. "Thank you," she said softly. "For everything you've done today. For standing up to Nathaniel, for helping my family, for being here when I needed someone." "You don't need to thank me for any of that," Damon replied, his voice steady and sincere. "I told you before, I don't like seeing people hurt you. That includes your own family when they don't see your worth." Celia felt her heart flutter at his words. "You really think I'm worth all this trouble?" "I think you're worth much more than you realize," Damon said simply. "And I think it's time you started believing that about yourself too." She gazed at him for a while, realizing that the fake relationship they had started was beginning to feel less fake with every passing hour. "I should probably take a shower," Celia said finally, breaking the tensi
Chapter 53
After the drama with Nathaniel, the family gathered around the dinner table. Mrs. Greene had prepared a feast, constantly serving Damon the best dishes and treating him like royalty. "Please, eat more," Mrs. Greene said, placing another portion on Damon's plate. "You must be hungry after dealing with all that nonsense from Nathaniel." "Thank you, Mrs. Greene," Damon replied politely. "The food is excellent." Mr. Greene nodded approvingly. "My wife is a wonderful cook. We're honored to have you at our table." Celia sat quietly, still processing everything that had happened. She glanced at Damon, who remained calm and composed despite the dramatic turn of events. "Damon," Mrs. Greene said suddenly, "I have to ask you something. How did you know Anthony Williams would call like that? The timing was perfect." Damon set down his chopsticks and looked at her directly. "Sometimes people make assumptions about others without knowing the full story. I've learned that patience often reveal
Chapter 52
Despite Nathaniel's accusations, Damon stayed calm. His face showed no anger or frustration. He stood there patiently, like someone watching a child throw a tantrum. "You can believe whatever makes you comfortable," Damon said quietly. Nathaniel's face grew redder. "I know you're lying!" Still unwilling to give up, Nathaniel pulled out his phone with shaking hands. "I'm calling Anthony Williams's secretary right now. I'm going to prove this once and for all." He scrolled through his contacts frantically. "I have his office number. When his secretary tells me he never called you, everyone will see the truth." Nathaniel found the number and was about to press call when his phone rang. The sound caught everyone's attention. He looked down at the caller ID. His eyes went wide. "Anthony Williams," he read aloud, barely a whisper. For a moment, Nathaniel was overjoyed. A huge smile spread across his face. "Perfect!" he said excitedly. "This is even better! Anthony Williams is callin
