5. Deep regrets

When he arrived at the Rockefeller's, he was hoping his wife would be there expecting his return. Unfortunately, it was just Katherine alone in the whole house. Luckily he got some responses from Katherine.

Mr Rockefeller was still at work and would leave work late, Mrs Rockefeller was sleeping over at her friends, Carter was pretty much out drinking and his wife, Angelica living her life...?

"What do you mean by she's living her life?"

Katherine scoffed then looked him from head to toe "Isn't it obvious? The life you can't give her"

Choosing to ignore that, he went on saying "A young woman isn't supposed to be out this late? Where the hell did she go?"

"Is that how you got these bruises? Because you are a young woman as well and couldn't defend yourself while you were been attacked" Katherine said, a smug look on her face.

She was well aware of her brother's plan to beat up the useless man their sister had gotten married to. She stared at his wounded face and smiled. He was sure a weakling.

At this point, Alexander clenched his fist. He has to keep his cool. The family was looking for an excuse to tear his relationship apart. Leaving the younger woman by herself, he went straight to his room and freshened up before heading to the kitchen.

Unfortunately, they had eaten and left the kitchen untidy. He walked towards where the cleaning materials were kept and took them out tidying up the kitchen. When he was done, he set to cooking himself what he'd eat.

He hates this life so much. Having to eat from his in-laws' pocket. This will end eventually and he'll make sure of it.

By the time he was finished with cooking the spaghetti that was quick and easier, he sat down to eat. Halfway through the food, his wife came barging in.

He almost choked on the glass of water he had brought to his mouth sipping from. His wife was putting on a very short revealing dress that showed most of her cleavages.

"Where are you coming from?" He asked, dropping the glass back on the table. He had even lost appetite.

Angelica widened her eyes and then in a duh tone, she asked "Do I look like I'm answerable to you?"

"I repeat, where are you coming from?"

"It's none of your business" She screamed at him, taking off her heels angrily and then exhaling from the relief.

"Angelica, you're testing my patience. Answer me right now!"

"Fine! I went clubbing with my girls. The very ones who bought me these shoes you couldn't buy" she lied.

A man had bought those shoes for her but he shouldn't know that.

She has decided not to ask him for a divorce yet.

If her relationship with this new man blossoms, then she will ask for a divorce but if they end up divorcing earlier, her father would force her to marry his boss's son and she doesn't like that idea.

"Clubbing? You never like such. Since when did you start going there?" Alexander asked, confused about the whole thing.

Angelica used to run from alcohol or had she being lying? What's going on here? What has changed?

"The bad influence you call friends, am I right? Instead of them to teach you to keep a home they're..."

She cut in "Look, Alex drop this matter. I'm home, safe and sound aren't I? That's all that matters. Instead of a acting like a good husband and welcoming your sweet wife, you're busy spitting shit in her face"

"Well, I wouldn't be saying all of these and questioning you if you weren't guilty and acting like a bad wife" he yelled, anger rising within him.

"And what's this about me slapping you this morning? Have I ever laid a hand on...?"

"Oh poor baby, Did Carter lash out on you?" She suddenly faked concern hurrying towards him but not without dishing orders to her sister, Katherine who was busy on her phone ignoring the couple.

"Take the shoes and the bag to the room" she ordered

"I won't do his job" Katherine said, rising from the couch.

Angelica looked at her for some seconds and focused back on Alexander, ignoring her sister who decided to head to her room.

"Did you hear what she just said? I know I should stand up to her but as her sister, you should have reprimanded her. Do you think so low of me too?" Alexander asked

Angelica sighed in frustration "That's a small matter. Ignore her. She's still young okay?"

"Seventeen is young?"

"She is my sister and you're pretty much living in her space. If you had lots of money, and a separate house for us, this wouldn't be happening. The moment you are rich enough that's when she can accord you the respect you're seeking for. For now, you're a nobody and a nobody doesn't need to be respected" Angelica yelled in one breath

"What has come over you Angelica? You've changed. You used to be contented with what I bring to the table. What..."

"My eyes opened and I saw more to life than your handsome face. Every certain day, I envy my friends. They have the best life. Why did I have to be the unfortunate one?" She lamented

"So, you thought it was best to rile your brother up to gather thugs on me right?"

"That, I don't regret. I hope they gave you a wakeup call by that beating. You can't continue living off of my parents. They're not so wealthy that you can burden them everyday" She shouted, storming out of the living room to head to the room.

At that moment, he began to regret ever agreeing to stay with his in-laws. He thought they were beginning to accept him. He'd have found a house for them but then his father-in-law sweet talked him into living like a big family with them.

Maybe if he had succeeded more before marriage, it'd have been better. But at that time, Angelica wouldn't hear any of it. She wanted to marry him, fearing that he will go to another person.

He tried to speak sense into her but also wanted to please her.

He quickly took up his phone to check his bank balance. There was still some zeros before it can be completed to rent an apartment.
