“Diane?”

Leon was horrified, and his mind rejected the sight. ‘No. Impossible. This is an illusion. Diane is dead. She has been for a long time.’

Had she fallen from the sky?

Gasps and murmurs filled the air as a crowd gathered around the bloody sight before him.

“Oh my God, did she fall or was she pushed?”

“That’s a three-story drop. She’s definitely dead.”

Leon’s silver eyes lifted to the building above. ‘Not from the heavens, then. A mortal fall. But was she truly real? he pondered, completely shocked as he looked back at her.

Then he saw it… faint, but unmistakable. Her life force still clung to her battered form, refusing to fade completely.

Without hesitation, he crouched beside her, his fingers pressing deftly against precise points on her body, stabilizing what remained of her existence. Then, effortlessly, he lifted her into his arms and carried her away through the stunned onlookers.

He thought deeply as he walked. ‘Diane is on the edge, and my energy alone won’t be enough.
