Chapter 3
Megan threw herself shamelessly in front of Charlie, into the young man's arms, and declared, sweetness in her voice. “Charlie, meet Franklin, my new boyfriend. You're nowhere close to his wealth. I love him, not you.” She relaxed in his arms, pressing her head comfortably on his chest. Franklin Jones is the popular, wealthy student on campus. He is from a wealthy family. Naturally, he's proud and also a playboy, however, girls on campus had been dying to be with him. Megan was the beauty goddess on campus so she won him over. “Charlie,” Franklin called out, one hand casually relaxed in his pocket and the other wrapped around Megan, keeping her warm. “From now on, Megan is mine. She belongs to me and not you so I'm warning you, stay away from her or I'll have you visit an early grave,” he said wickedly. Charlie's face was red, his blood boiling, but he couldn't utter a word. He loved his life so he knew better than to be silent. Franklin had connections with dangerous thugs on campus and if he dared to talk back or attack him, Franklin might end up hiring the thugs to beat him up. “Got it, boy?” Franklin laughed at Charlie's silence. Soon, students began to gather, watching the scene. One had seen when Franklin kicked Charlie in the stomach and she had called to her best to come have a look. Her best friend also called hers, and it went on that way until the place got filled with students. Some looked with outer disgust at Charlie's figure, while some looked with pitiful expressions. “I saw it. He kicked him right in the stomach, but he's a coward, he couldn't fight back,” one said. “Franklin is a big shot and you want a pathetic pauper like him to fight back? You want him dead, don't you?” Another student replied. Then heads turned toward Megan who nestled in Franklin's arms, wide-eyed. “Isn't she supposed to be Charlie's girlfriend? Why is she so comfortable in Franklin's arms?” One student murmured. “She just broke up with him,” another responded. “She said he isn't up to her level, that he's pathetic.” Everyone burst into laughter, watching Charlie get humiliated. Meanwhile, Franklin, enjoying the moment, reached into his pocket and pulled out some bucks. Holding it up to Charlie, he mocked, “Boy, I remember you could do anything for money, correct, right? Now, here's six hundred, I want to have Megan in bed so go to the pharmacy and get something…..you know what I mean, right?” He laughed mockingly. “Get it, then keep the change.” Everyone burst into another segment of laughter. “Oh, what a generous gesture. That's so kind of you, Franklin,” one student said, clearly mocking Charlie. “Will he really do that after his girlfriend has been taken from him?” Another inquired, covering his mouth. “What choice does he have? That's a generous amount that Franklin had offered so he'll definitely go to have the change to himself.” Charlie clenched his fists at his sides, hearing those annoying and taunting words from the students. His face exploded with anger. How dare he tell him to get that for him! He felt like propelling a dangerous punch to Franklin's face, but he managed to hold back, knowing the aftermath. “Hey boy, don't keep me waiting. Are you grabbing this generous gesture or not?” Franklin asked again with a smug smirk. “I can have someone else do it if you don't want to.” Charlie totally ignored him, turning his angry expression toward Megan who still remained nestled in Franklin's arms, his muscles tensed, almost pulling out. Since he had been dating her, Megan had never once allowed him to touch her, but she felt so relaxed in another man's arms just because of the money. He stared at her, hesitated before saying. “Megan, I hope you never regret your decision someday.” Megan couldn't help, but chuckle. “What a joker you are. What makes you think I'd regret leaving a loser like you? I'll never regret it.” “Okay.” Charlie didn't say anything else. He turned around and started walking away from the crowd with a shattered heart. As Charlie left there, he went to the small apartment that he had rented. It wasn't far from school. He preferred staying in a dormitory, but because of his part-time job, he chose to rent an apartment to enable him to move out at night to work in the bar without restriction. Charlie collapsed onto the bed, face up, staring blankly at the ceiling. Memories of his good time he had with Megan began flooding his mind. Tears formed in his eyes. “How could she?” He muttered to himself, broken. “I loved her, but what did she do? She traded my love for money?” How Megan spoke to him flashed through his eyes. “She even called me names. That I'm pathetic. Loser. All sorts of names like I meant nothing to her.” Tears started to drop down his cheeks. But then….snap! Knock, knock, knock. The sound of his door echoed, snapping him out of his shattered emotions. Charlie quickly wiped his eyes, his eyes darting toward the entrance. “Who's that?” He asked, trying to steady his voice. “Wait, I'm coming.” Charlie didn't get to reach the door when it burst open. A woman walked in, her face grim. Charlie was taken aback as he quickly recognised the figure. His heart throbbed.Latest Chapter

Chapter 67“Do you have any appointment with him?” She added.Charlie shook his head. “No, I don’t.”The receptionist scanned him from his head down to his toes, slightly getting irritated. “I’m sorry but you can’t see him,” she responded, her voice carrying finality.“Why?”“That’s because the manager has nothing to do with someone like you.” Her voice was laced with disgust. “He’s a business-minded person so what possible business plan do you want to discuss with him?” Slowly, she pointed toward the exit door as if giving him a piece of advice. “I’ll urge you to kindly use the exit door before security guards do so.”Charlie’s face contorted into a tight frown instantly. Without warning, he slammed his hand on the desk. “I said I want to see the manager and you are asking me to leave?”His nose flared up with anger, fists clenched. “Where the hell is that bastard? I want to see him. Call him here. Now!” He barked out.The receptionist startled, body vibrating at the sudden outburst

Chapter 66Duke raised an eyebrow, clearly not getting what Charlie was saying. “What do you mean? That you’re going inside so the manager can give you back your salary? How?”To him, if the manager should be working in a place like this then he must really be powerful. How then does Charlie intend to get back his salary? He blinked, the whole thing seeming strange to him. “You can’t be serious, are you?” He asked.Charlie nodded firmly. “No, I’m not joking. I’m serious.”His jaw clenched as he started to explain. “I worked hard for that money and I can’t let it go just like that. I won’t let him have it to himself. We deserve to be paid for the work we did.”His voice turned cold. “I will get all the money today and if he dares to act stubborn and not comply then I will be left with no other option but to make him regret it.”There was something dark in his eyes as he said that.Duke saw it and he just looked fixedly. There was something totally different in Charlie. The way he just

Chapter 65 Before she could approach her father, Miller raised his hand, stopping her. “Stop right there!” He warned, his eyes blazing with rage. “What’s all this doing in this house? Occupying space?”“But Dad, that’s one of my items. Just bought it yesterday and you’ve destroyed it,” June burst out, her eyes wet with tears. She knew how much it cost her to get that. And now it has been destroyed in just a blink of an eye. “Why do you have to be doing this to me? Why, Dad?” She sobbed, tears rolling down her cheeks. “Am I your daughter? Why don’t you let me chase my career in peace? Why don’t you allow me to do what I love doing? Why keep interfering?”“Career, you say?” Miller scoffed. “What kind of career is it being a TikToker or whatever you call it? Since you started it, for three to four years or so, what tangible result have you gotten? What can you hold onto? Or is it sitting down or standing up making hell of noises in the house all in the name of going live? What else do

Chapter 64June paused, her pulse racing at the vibration of the voice. She turned around immediately, recognizing the voice. A frown plastered on her face as she took in the figure properly. “He’s back so soon,” she hissed, a hint of annoyance brimming within her. “You didn’t tell me he was coming back too soon,” June leaned and whispered only for her mother to hear. Her mother looked at her and sighed. She shrugged. “Had no idea he was coming back today as well. Wasn’t informed.” She replied with a soft sigh.“Please, don’t cause any scene today. Just do as he says, okay?”June’s brows just knitted, but she didn’t answer her mother a word. Meanwhile, her mother just exhaled, her heaved chest dropping. Finally, she put herself together before striding forward, flashing a warming smile. At the door entrance stood a man in his late forties, dressed in a well-ironed, black suit with a white tie fastened around his neck. He was carrying an office bag in his left hand, his other one

Chapter 63“I doubt if you truly won a lottery, Charlie. Please, be honest.” Duke took a step closer. “I'm your friend, I won't let anyone know about this. What's happening?" He asked, his voice soft and barely above a whisper. His gaze held Charlie's firmly.Charlie didn't blink, his gaze locked in, his mind considering whether to tell Duke the truth or not. “Please, talk to me, Charlie. Everything about you recently changed. What's going on?” Duke added, snapping him from his consideration. Charlie exhaled, finally winking his eyes. “Mmm—” Just as he opened his mouth to answer, a sharp noise erupted in the room, disrupting the moment. It was Charlie's phone that was ringing.Charlie shifted slightly, his eyes darting down towards his pocket. “Please, excuse me. Got a call."Duke didn't say a word as he watched Charlie gently reach his finger into his pocket, pulling out his phone. Pulling it out, Charlie glanced briefly at Duke before finally swiping the screen up. “Hello? Wh

Chapter 62The door creaked open and closed behind them as they stepped into his apartment. Charlie pointed as he addressed Duke. “Sit right here, I'll be back.” He made Duke sit down on his bed before walking toward his worn-out cupboard to retrieve something.Just a few minutes later, Charlie returned, carrying a nylon bag. He sat beside Duke, who was excitedly browsing through his new phone. He gave a soft smile as he observed Duke's expression. “Seems like you're in love with your new phone already." Duke looked up. “Definitely!" He nodded. “It's a nice device and I'm glad everything happened the way it did. Because that Samsung phone of mine was showing some faulty signs." His gaze then scanned the room, concern and worry in his eyes as he set down his phone on the bed. "Charlie,” he called softly."Yes.” Charlie raised an eyebrow, holding his gaze.Duke shifted closer to him. "I'm sorry you're living in a place like this," he started, his voice carrying emotion.
