“This is pure nonsense!” Jonathan’s voice cracked, sounding equal parts furious and desperate. “Tax fraud? Me? Do you even hear yourself?! Not once in my life have I ever failed to pay taxes, and you know it. Never have I cut corners! How could they… this is so absurd! It is definitely a mistake!”

The man shrank back, trembling as Jonathan’s fury tried to burn him to ashes.

Jonathan’s hands trembled frantically, his shoulders shaking as his composure completely abandoned him. Gone was the calm, level-headed man of earlier; what remained was a man swallowed by rage, disbelief, and desperation.

“Tell me you gave them everything,” Jonathan demanded suddenly, taking a step closer to the manager, his glare burning into the man’s face. “Every document and every tax-related receipts. Tell me you didn’t miss a single one that caused this misunderstanding!”

******To any stranger watching right now, it would appear obvious: Irene could not possibly be their daughter or sister. The way they berated her, stripped her dignity, and accused her… it was treatment reserved for a despised servant and not family.Anyone witnessing the scene would swear their bonds of blood were a mistake, that Irene must be an outsider intruding where she didn’t belong.…Suddenly, Irene no longer felt surprised.Instead, her shock rapidly melted away, leaving behind only an empty ache. This wasn’t new.In fact, this was the same treatment her mother and sister had shown her since she was a child. Every single one of her mistakes had always been magnified, and every one of her stumbles twisted into something monstrous. They had always been quick to condemn her and to make her feel like an intruder in her own family. And yet, even knowing this pattern, Irene couldn’t stop the sting of disappointment from cutting deep. Disappointment at them, disappointmen

  • Chapter 192 – Irene’s Disappointment

******Suddenly, Irene couldn’t help but freeze where she stood, her body stiff as though the ground itself had swallowed her feet, her mother’s sudden accusation, cold and venomous, echoing sharply in her mind with such sharp spite that the words might have been aimed at a sworn enemy rather than her own child.Perry’s glare bore down on her with a hostility so fierce that Irene felt as though she had just committed the cruelest crime imaginable. Her lips parted soundlessly, her jaw dropped in disbelief.Just now, both she and her elder sister had stumbled, and in fact, Irene had tripped more severely than Irene, nearly pitching forward into the ground, while her sister… steady on her feet, could not have possibly fallen.Yet here she was, accused, condemned, and treated as though she were some malicious villain. Her mother hadn’t even glanced at her with the slightest tinge of concern… offering her no helping hand or worry. Instead, only blame. For a second, Irene’s chest tig

  • Chapter 191 – Perry’s Accusation

******Irene was able to see through her mother and sister’s performance as easily as glass, because no matter how flawless they act, she knew the truth: they didn’t love her at all... not in the way a mother and sister should, at least. In fact, their joy wasn’t about seeing her or that she was moving back home. It was about what she represented… the security of their own gains and the protection of their own interests. It’s not like she just returned to the country. She had been around for a few weeks now, but they had completely ignored her existence.Instead, their excitement was no more than the nervous relief of investors seeing their investment return and knowing that it was about to yield them a chart-breaking gain.Inside, her heart ached sharply at this feeling. She wanted to deny it and silence the thought, but she was no longer so gullible again, not especially after the previous day’s event. Before she even knew it…‘Hypocrite.’The word echoed through her mind, a

  • Chapter 190 – A Cold Irene

******After exiting the taxi, Irene unhurriedly paid the driver with a curt nod, not noticing the man fidgeting like an ordinary commoner in the presence of a noble. Then, daring not to meet her gaze, the man quickly slammed the pedals and sped away before Irene’s aura could freeze him to an ice statue, leaving behind two travel bags at Irene’s feet... a clear sign that she had packed out of her rented apartmentWith the cab gone, Irene also finally turned to face the building before her, her expression unreadable. This was the place she had once called home, the villa she had lived in before being ‘convinced’ to leave the country. In an instant, different memories flashed through her mind, but none reflected in her face.Irene’s eyes remained flat and devoid of nostalgia or warmth. Instead, as she gazed at the familiar house, she seemed not to see a home, but instead, a prison… one she had no desire to return to, and yet one she could not avoid. Her jaw tightened almost imper

  • Chapter 189 – The Mother and Daughter’s Plan

******Lorraine chuckled again after hearing her daughter’s innocent response, but it was darker and heavier this time, carrying venom beneath its sweetness.“Over my dead body,” she spat.Sophia’s brows drew together. “But… then why…”“I only agreed with your father,” Lorraine interrupted, her voice sharp and deliberate, “because I knew he wouldn’t back down until he thought he had gotten his way.”Sophia blinked, her expression blank for a long moment as she processed the revelation. Then, slowly, the light of realization flickered across her eyes.In the following second, her lips curved upward into a smile that mirrored her mother’s own, sly and knowing.“You must have planned something, haven’t you?” she asked, her voice lowering, heavy with anticipation.Lorraine’s smirk widened, turning bright and merciless. Then she tapped a finger lightly against her chin, her eyes narrowing with a gleam of calculation.“Bingo,” she exclaimed, a cold, predatory, and dangerous glint s

  • Chapter 188 – Sophia’s Fury

******After Glenn’s departure, the Woods villa sank into silence, a heavy air lingering over the mother and daughter.Neither moved for several seconds, their breathing sharp and uneven. Then…“Bleh!” Lorraine gagged suddenly, clutching her throat with dramatic flair. She hunched forward as though suffocating, her voice rasping in exaggerated horror. “The stench of prison I endured just now… any longer, and I would have choked to death!”Her performance was twisted, her scorn pouring out in exaggerated theatrics. Sophia immediately fanned her nose with her palm, screwing up her face as though Glenn’s absence hadn’t banished the imaginary odor. “I don’t even understand why he came here at all! Hasn’t he already ruined our family enough? What more does he want?!” she shouted, her fury bubbling over until she looked fit to combust.Lorraine straightened slowly, her face still twisted with disgust, but beneath it her fists clenched so tightly her knuckles turned white. She fume
