Dante’s arm shot out, grabbed it, and casually lifted and tossed a man weighing 180kg behind him.
Three minutes later, he dragged the tenth unconscious man to the wall, then tapped on the window. “I just need you to call the home of Michael Slater and hand me the phone.” At this, the cowering man inside did as told and threw out the phone. “I’m not expecting any visitors. If there’s anyone there who claims to be from me, send them away,” the sleepy, scruffy voice of a man filtered through the receiver as soon as the call connected. “Mick, in three weeks, I need you to find someone who’ll buy an apartment from Wards Royal Estate.” There was a brief silence on the other end before the voice sharpened, disbelief oozing through it as he stuttered, “S-Supreme Commander Wynn?” Resting on the wall, Dante sucked in his teeth, “Look at your surveillance footage and tell me if there’s anyone bold enough to cause such a scene outside Phase 3.” For almost a minute, the other end was so silent that Dante turned to the person inside. “Is the call still connected?” “Y-yes, sir.” Came the shaky voice. Dante pressed the phone tighter against his ear, surprised. He had just parted his lips to say something when a BMW sped toward the gate. It had barely gotten there when it screeched to a stop. A man, still in polka dot pajamas, hopped out, his phone pressed tightly to his ear. Despite the thick prescription glasss he had on, Dante could see his eyes widening in disbelief. Michael Slater didn’t lower his phone, nor did he avert his gaze. With his free hand, he took off his glasses, wiped them clean with his shirt, and wore them again. Taking a step forward, his voice trembled with excitement as he rushed toward the gate. “It’s really you, Supreme Commander!” He then spoke with the officer inside before driving Dante to his place. After serving him tea, he stood in a corner, his eyes roving over him. Michal Slater, a prominent fixer for the military who took care of scandals and fixed whatever needed to be fixed for positive public opinion, wasn’t very good at hiding his curiosity. Dante glanced at him, “Say it.” The man didn’t hesitate and promptly sat in front of him. “There were rumors that you went mad. Someone said they saw you roaming the streets five years ago. He was so convincing, a lot of people believed him.” “However, you still look the same. Even better. Now I’m doubting if what they said about you running mad was ever true.” Dante lowered his eyes to his arms. Indeed, he still looked the same. But that was only because the Ward family made him do all kinds of work. Tasks even their workers didn’t do. He ran errands every hour of the day, which maintained his form despite having no awareness that he was supposed to. “What I said about the house…” His brows perked up questioningly as he changed the subject. At this, Michael withdrew backward, a bitter smile creasing his lips. “You’ve been gone five years, so you probably don’t know, but after you suddenly went missing, the army started cracking down on people.” “Everyone associated with you was dropped. I made enough money working for the army, so I’ve been holed up here ever since.” “So, currently… I, unfortunately, don’t have the connections needed to make that happen.” Dante paused. “Is this related to the bounty on my head?” Michael’s eyes widened in surprise. “I see you’ve heard about that. They seemed to think putting a bounty on your head would smoke you out faster. So now everyone who knows how to use a gun has been hunting for you.” Dante was only silent for a second before his brows perked up again in surprise, “So why aren’t you turning me in?” Michael’s cheeks stretched into a wide smile. “Not only do we have history, Supreme Commander, but I’d be executed alongside you without my side ever being heard.” Dante thinned his lips. So he was stripped of his position and a bounty was put on his head. The stripping of his title, he understood as it was disgraceful for a Supreme Commander not to be aware enough that he became a madman, but the bounty… “Supreme Commander, what do you plan to do with the information you took with you five years ago?” Michael suddenly asked. Dante’s brows knitted into a frown, his voice deepening. “Information?” Taking the change in voice to be annoyance, Michael hurriedly waved his hand. “No, no! I’m not asking because I want a share in it. I’m just trying to understand if risking your life over it is worth it.” “You went to such lengths to cover your tracks that up until now, the army still doesn’t know what it is you took from their base.” It finally dawned on Dante what was happening. Given how the army operated, it didn’t surprise him one bit that they were going to such lengths since they thought he took something from them. But his memory was intact and he didn’t remember taking anything. If there was really anything missing from the database, then his cousin must’ve had something to do with it. “You’re saying coming here was no use.” Once again, he didn’t answer Michael’s question and got on his feet. Michael did the same, small smile etched into his face. “You paid me ten years in advance for my services, and you’ve only used half of those years. I’d do anything to help you, but I really have no connections.” “The army also has their eyes on me, so I fear if they find you, I’ll also be in trouble too. But I can set you up with someone who owes me a favor and frequently buys a house.” With a nod from Dante, Michael wrote down a name and number on a piece of paper. Dante didn’t look at it before slipping it into his pocket. It was almost midnight, which meant the Ward family’s gates would soon be locked, so he needed to get back quickly. Michael had just turned to drop the pen, but when he turned again, the man had long disappeared into the night.

Chapter 10
Instantly, Megan sat up, her face reddening with anger.“What are you doing?”“I came to buy a house. Why do you seem to have a problem with that?” A question originally directed at Selene was answered by the woman as she whipped her head around to stare stoically at Megan. Megan’s face instantly darkened.“What is this? It’s not that I have a problem with you embarrassing yourself, I just have a problem with you wasting our time.”Then she paused and threw a death glare Selene’s way. “And you… you heard everything that happened here, yet you went out and called her back in? What do you know about customers that Ian and I don’t?” Before Selene could respond in her own defense, the woman, who hadn’t shown a single sign of aggression earlier, regarded Megan coldly.“She didn’t call me back in. I told her I want to buy a house. Why are you being so rude?”“R–rude? Since when does telling people to know their place translate to being rude?” Megan was first taken aback before she huffed,

The woman hadn’t toned down her voice, so Megan heard her loud and clear.A staff member who’d done the same turned to look the woman over. When she saw the chef-stained apron, she immediately frowned and quickly came to a biased assumption.“If you’re looking to rent an apartment, this is not the right place to do it.”Surprised, the woman turned to her. “I was told this is a real estate agency.”“It is. But Wards Royal Estate has nothing the likes of you can afford,” the staff scoffed, turning to face her squarely.“Excuse me?” The woman blurted out in surprise, wiping her hands again on her apron.Seeing this, Megan thinned her lips, taking her time to look the woman over as well. She wore a hair bonnet and a mouth guard. The oily chef’s apron already said enough about her profession, but the thick smell of smoke oozing from her made Megan rethink. If this woman worked in a hotel, she wouldn’t reek of such thick smoke. So if she didn’t, then she likely worked in a dump or somewhere

When Selene Ward woke up the next morning, the first thing she heard was what happened last night and the decisions her parents had made without her input. At breakfast, Barbara continued in irritation, “Your grandfather is going out on a limb to keep you in the company. Work hard and don’t make his efforts go to waste.”“If you have to do some things with those rich scions to get them to buy a house, make sure you get their signatures on the documents first. And secondly, make sure they’re not taping anything with your face in it.”Scraping his chair back, Benjamin Ward stood and threw a stern glance at his daughter.“You’re way prettier than your cousins, so I know you can get any man you want if you put your heart into it. For once in your life, listen to your mother and me.”“If you don’t do whatever it takes to get a signature on that document, I’ll curse you forever for making my already miserable life even more miserable.”Kicking her feet in the air aggressively, Barbara glare

“She already went to the hospital, I’m sure she just needs to sleep to be fine.” Barbara hurriedly nodded, agreeing with him. Unfolding his arms, a thought suddenly occurred to Ian and his eyes shot toward Alaric. “Now that I think of it, wasn’t Selene slacking off at work this week? Grandfather, I think she did this on purpose to get medical leave!”“Ah, how cunning. If she wanted time off, she could’ve just asked. I’m certain father would’ve been glad to give her leave… permanently.” Megan chimed in with a snort. Barbara panicked. After falling out of favor with his father, Benjamin Ward’s income, considerably reduced. But as the young person in the household, Selene earned three times more than him and sustained the family with it. So at the thought of their source of livelihood being taken away, Barbara’s eyes snapped toward Megan fearfully. “Don’t talk like that, Megan. You’ve known Selene since she was born. She’s too hardworking for that.”Feeling the bridge of her nose
