The arena was quiet when they entered, and Jax had learned by now that quiet was never the same thing as safe.

The walls were cracked and laced with moss. Paint had peeled off in long strips down to bare stone. Rusted weapons hung along the inner walls, swords and spears that had once meant something and now meant nothing. Four champion statues stood at the corners of the arena floor, their faces worn smooth by time. Wherever the light didn't reach, shadow sat thick and undisturbed.

    Two Weeks LaterA stony path welcomed Jax with his back bent from the weight of a bag of potatoes he was carrying over his shoulder.
