The king was heartbroken after hearing those words, and the smile that had been on his face only a few minutes earlier immediately disappeared. He had trusted his wife so much that, if the shaman had not been the one to reveal the truth, he would never have believed that she had cheated on him—not with another elf, but with a human. The question running through his mind now was how she had even come into contact with a human. Had she been seeing one in secret all along? Had something happened during one of the battles against the humans? Of course, she could not claim that she had been raped, because if that had truly happened, surely she would have told him about it after the incident.

'Was she dating a human all along?' The village king asked himself as tears slowly filled his eyes. He could no longer hold them back and eventually broke down. All this time, he had believed that he was receiving his first child, and he had been happier than he had ever been. But now that the baby had been born, discovering that the child was not actually his shattered his heart into pieces. Everything he had believed about his wife and the child suddenly felt like a lie.

The king stared at his wife for a long moment before slowly shifting his gaze toward the child. Just as he was about to speak, a deafening sound suddenly echoed through the hut.

*Boom!*

A black spear pierced through the wall of the hut, shattering part of it into pieces and sending dust flying through the room within seconds. Everyone inside immediately turned toward the destroyed wall, and before anyone could fully regain their clear sight, Feria was already charging forward.

"Demons!" She muttered as she pulled out her swords and rushed toward the first demon that stepped into the hut. Her blade flashed through the air and cut cleanly through the demon's neck as though it were a knife slicing through butter. The demon's body collapsed to the ground before it even had the chance to understand what had happened, while another loud roar echoed from outside.

Seeing the attack, the king immediately channeled his anger into the battle. He wiped the tears from his eyes, grabbed his spear and shield, and took a deep breath.

"We'll settle this later," the king muttered.

Just as he stepped outside the hut, another demon suddenly attacked him, but the creature was immediately pushed backward by the powerful force released from his spear. The king did not give it a chance to recover.

"Haaaa!"

He screamed as he leaped into the air and came crashing down on the demon's body. Pulling his spear free, he slowly raised his head, only for his entire body to freeze when he saw the sight before him. Every elf on the island had fallen. Their bodies were scattered across the ground, and the peaceful village that had once been filled with life was now covered in blood and destruction. The only ones still alive were himself, the few elves who had followed him into the hut, the shaman, Feria, his wife, and the newborn child.

"No!"

The king screamed in anger and threw his spear and shield aside. Stretching both of his arms wide, the trees around him immediately obeyed his command. Their branches began twisting and moving like living creatures before shooting toward the demons from every direction. The attacks came so quickly that the demons could barely see where they were coming from, and one after another, the branches pierced deeply into their chests. At first, tens of demons fell, followed by hundreds, and before long, the number of dead demons had reached the thousands.

However, while continuing to use his power, the king slowly began finding it difficult to breathe. His body was being drained rapidly, and even though he continued killing the demons, more of them kept arriving from the distance, quickly replacing those who had fallen. It was as though there was no end to them.

"No! There are even more demons coming!" the shaman cried. "We have to run! If the king keeps doing this, it's never going to end. More demons will keep coming, and he'll eventually drain himself to death!"

Behind him stood the king's wife with the child in her arms, Feria, and the four elves who had followed the king into the hut. They all stared toward the battlefield as the king continued holding back an army that seemed endless.

"We need to leave now while the king is holding them back," one of the elves said.

"But not without the king," another elf replied.

Her eyes remained fixed on him as she suddenly began running toward the king. The remaining three elves immediately followed her, leaving behind the shaman, Feria, and the king's wife, who was still holding the newborn child tightly against her chest.

"It will be easier for me to convince him," the shaman said before quickly running after them.

The king heard footsteps approaching from behind. At first, he thought the demons had somehow managed to get past his attacks, but the connection he felt made him realize that they were his own people. Turning toward them, he was shocked to see that they had not escaped. Everything he had been doing was to buy them more time to leave. He already knew that he would eventually become drained and die, but he had never intended for them to die alongside him. He needed them to survive and live long enough to represent their village someday.

"What are you fools doing here?" the king muttered as he slowly lowered his arms and turned toward them.

"My king, we need to leave now. There are still thousands of them coming. If you keep using your power—ugh!"

The shaman's sentence was suddenly cut short as a sword pierced through his chest. His eyes widened in shock, and blood slowly ran from his mouth. But he was not the only one who had been struck. The demons had somehow managed to break through and reach them from another direction, and their swords pierced through the king and the four elves as well. One after another, they fell lifelessly to the ground. They could have tried to cast healing spells, but after the battle, their bodies had already been completely drained.

"Sister, you don't have to worry about me. Save the child. I'll hold them back," Feria muttered while looking deeply into her sister's eyes. She already knew that this would probably be the last time they would ever see each other, but she did not allow the fear in her heart to show on her face.

"Run!" Feria screamed.

Her sister did not hesitate. Holding the newborn child tightly against her chest, she immediately turned around and ran into the woods. Behind her, Feria stayed behind and desperately fought against the demons, casting spell after spell while doing everything she could to prevent them from following her sister.

The king's wife ran through the forest as fast as her exhausted body would allow, holding the newborn child firmly against her chest. Branches struck against her body and scratched her skin as she pushed deeper into the woods, while the sounds of Feria fighting the demons continued echoing behind her. She did not know how long she had been running, and she did not dare to look back. The only thing she could think about was the child in her arms. She had to save him, even if it meant sacrificing herself.

However, she had not gotten far when she began hearing the sounds of footsteps rapidly approaching from behind. Her heart sank as she realized that the demons had managed to get past Feria and they were chasing her.

She immediately forced herself to run faster despite the pain spreading through her body. Her breathing became heavier with every step, and her legs were beginning to weaken, but she refused to stop. After running through the forest for several more minutes, she suddenly broke through the trees and arrived at the edge of a river.

She immediately looked around, desperately searching for a way to escape, but there was nowhere for her to go. Then, her eyes suddenly landed on something resting near the edge of the river. A bamboo basket.

She quickly ran toward it and gently placed the newborn child inside. Her hands trembled as she covered him with a piece of cloth that was inside the basket, staring down at his small and peaceful face. To her, the child was completely unaware of the battle, the death, and the destruction that had taken everything away from him. Tears slowly rolled down her cheeks.

"I'm sorry," she whispered.

She placed both hands on the basket and gently pushed it into the river. The current immediately began carrying it away, and although it did not travel far, the distance between the child and his mother slowly began to increase.

Just as the demons finally emerged from the forest behind her, she turned around and faced them.

"There she is!" one of them shouted.

The king's wife looked back toward the river and watched as the bamboo basket continued floating away. It had not yet gone far, but it was already beyond her reach. She knew that if the demons came closer, they would eventually notice the child.

A faint smile appeared on her face.

She slowly raised her hands as the last remaining strength in her body began gathering around her.

"If I cannot survive," she whispered, staring at the demons as they approached, "then none of you will follow him."

The demons rushed toward her, but before they could reach the river, she released the last of her remaining power. A powerful blast of magic exploded through the forest, shaking the ground and forcing the demons backward.

In their hands were dark swords and axes, with some kind of flame-like energy radiating from the weapons. On each of their ships was the large image of a red face with long horns on both sides. More demon ships continued to arrive, and thousands of demons stepped down from them, moving into battle formations. On the other side of the island's entrance stood hundreds o
