“Wait! Doesn’t that mean…”

After carefully observing the bear, Darla finally realized something.

This bear had undergone an extraordinary mutation, making it completely different from an ordinary bear.

Its fur looked incredibly tough, as though it were made of finely cut pieces of steel. Even the parts of its body without fur were just as hard. Looking at its face and palms, they resembled solid black stone rather than flesh.

Attacking its body was pointless. It was simply too hard.

Darla could barely find any weakness in the monster until she noticed a tiny opening that had almost escaped her attention.

Every time this monster releases a shock wave from its mouth, its eyes glow red as well, she thought.

At first glance, this might not mean anything to an ordinary person. But for Darla, it meant the opposite.

When the bear's eyes began to glow, it meant they weren't as hard as the rest of its body. And that was precisely where they needed to attack.

“That's it! That spot! I'm certain that's its weakness!”

“Yemima!” she called through their mental communication. “You were right to try attacking the bear's eyes! Keep doing it! That's the only part of its body that isn't impervious to weapons!”

“Yes, my lady!”

Yemima, who had just been knocked to the ground by the shock wave, immediately got back to her feet. Leaping into the air, she now had a clear idea of exactly where she needed to strike.

Hovering about seven meters above the ground, she gripped her sword with both hands and gathered all her remaining strength before swinging it toward the monster's face.

“Die, you lowly creature!”

Yemima's shout was terrifying. She poured all her frustration into that attack.

After enduring the strange shock waves for several minutes, which had nearly shattered the bones in her body, she had finally found a way to escape her torment.

At the same time, both Darla and Adrian watched without blinking, holding their breath as they waited for the decisive moment.

However, Adrian still had doubts in his mind.

When Darla had first told him where the bear's weakness lay, he had been overjoyed, hoping Yemima would soon be able to defeat the monster.

But seeing how much energy the Dark Knight had already lost, Adrian could only hope his doubts wouldn't become reality.

Tap!

“What?”

Darla's eyes widened as the monster successfully caught Yemima's sword between its two palms.

Roar!

Not only did it catch the weapon, but the monster also pulled it from the knight's hands and threw it to the ground.

Roar!

Bang!

Taken by surprise, Yemima hadn't expected the monster to pull her sword away. Before she could release her grip, her body was dragged forward until she was close enough for the monster to punch her directly in the chest.

A second later, Yemima was sent tumbling backward before crashing to the ground.

“Damn it! At this rate, we're all in trouble!”

Adrian knew that Yemima was his last line of defense. If the knight fell, the monster before them wouldn't let any of them leave this place alive.

This monster's stamina seems limitless! It looks like there's only one way left to try!

Clenching his fists, Adrian couldn't think of any other way to defeat the monster. He had to give it a try.

“Yemima! Get up!”

Showing no sign of mercy, Adrian issued the command even though he could see that Yemima was seriously injured and had only about half her strength remaining.

But he had no choice.

I'm sorry, Yemima, he thought. It's precisely when you appear weak that this plan will work.

“Pick up your sword and attack it one more time!”

“Yes, my lord.”

Struggling to rise from the ground, Yemima still carried out his command.

Tap!

Gathering all the strength she had left, the knight rushed toward her sword, picked it up with her right hand, and forcefully pushed off the ground to leap into the air once more.

This time, she soared more than ten meters high.

It seemed the knight intended to use the momentum of her fall to increase the force and speed of her attack.

Growl!

Unlike before, the monster didn't try to catch the sword. Instead, it immediately opened its mouth and attacked Yemima while she was still in the air, as though it had been waiting for precisely this moment.

Caught by the attack, Yemima was sent flying backward once again.

Thud!

She slammed into the ground with tremendous force. It was impossible to tell whether the knight could continue fighting.

At the same time, with the bear's attention entirely focused on Yemima, it failed to notice something hurtling toward it at high speed.

Whoosh!

Standing upright with a vigilant gaze, Adrian released an arrow from his bow.

This time, I can't afford to fail again!

There was a reason he had ordered Yemima to launch another direct attack.

This monster must know that Yemima has very little strength left.

And it was instinctive for both monsters and humans to take pleasure in playing with an opponent who appeared utterly helpless yet desperately continued to attack. To the victor, it seemed like an entertaining game. Without realizing it, they would focus entirely on enjoying the spectacle, intent on finishing the game they believed they had already won.

But that was precisely when their weakness became exposed.

Carelessness.

And that was what Adrian intended to exploit.

It will completely ignore me. And that will be my only chance to attack!

Slash!

“ROAAAAAR!”

Dark red, foul-smelling fluid sprayed into the air as the arrow struck the bear's left eye. The monster let out a tremendous roar, as though its life were being slowly torn away.

Adrian saw no need to draw another arrow when the bear began thrashing wildly on the ground, twisting and rolling in every direction as though it were being slowly drained of life.

And sure enough, a few moments later, its body collapsed onto the ground and stopped moving.

“You do realize you've interrupted my morning, don't you? Arthur, you'd better not disappoint me.”“I would never do that, my lord.”The white-haired man bowed before presenting the holographic screen in his hands to Kaelen.“My lord, look! Of the ninety-nine shelters, only eighteen remain! That means the number of people opposing you has decreased significantly!”“Excellent!”A broad smile spread across Kaelen's face before he burst into laughter. As a lord, he could actually open his own screen and see what was happening for himself. But, of course, he was too lazy to do so.“With so many lords surrendering to me, wouldn't it be more appropriate to consider me a king rather than a mere lord?”That was what he thought.“Besides, why should I bother checking everything myself? That's their job! As my subordinates, they're the ones who should take care of it for me!”All he had to do was relax and enjoy himself while others handled everything. Just as they were doing for him that morni

“So these will be exchanged for Bronze-tier soldiers? No problem. With them joining my forces, my army will only continue to grow.”After all the bear and Abomination corpses had been thrown into the altar, only the zombie corpses remained. Although they were the most numerous, they were also the lowest-tier monsters.Even so, the thought of a massive army of undead soldiers marching before him made Adrian’s heart race with excitement.“What? No soldiers are appearing?”His expression immediately changed when ten zombie corpses were thrown in, yet nothing emerged.Instead, the altar produced a hundred Attribute Stones. That meant he would receive ten Stones for every zombie corpse.“All right. It’s fine. At least I’m getting something out of this.”Although he couldn’t hide his disappointment, it wasn’t as though he had gained nothing. There were around three thousand zombie corpses, which meant he had now obtained thirty thousand Attribute Stones.“With reserves like these, I won’t h

“Your strategy was truly brilliant, my lord!”Yemima was helping several injured undead soldiers rest in a special room on the first floor. Around half of the army had sustained serious injuries. Although none of them were life-threatening, the soldiers still needed complete rest to recover.“We managed to kill so many monsters! We didn’t let a single one of them escape!”Drake spoke excitedly. Although his facial expression was difficult to read, consisting of nothing more than a skull, his voice was filled with joy.“I can hardly wait for the next Evernight!”Jaxon was quick to add his own comment. Both generals had also suffered serious injuries after fighting the Blood Bears. However, compared to the victory they had achieved, their injuries meant nothing.“Get some rest.”Adrian patted his generals on the shoulders, a broad smile spreading across his face.“You fought very well tonight. You deserve some rest.”A faint light appeared in the eastern sky. Sunrise was approaching.Al

  • Chapter 26 - Time for a Counterattack

“Yemima said the monsters’ withdrawal was deliberate preparation for Evernight, didn’t she? That means if we’ve encountered everything from zombies to bears, there’s a good chance those are the very monsters that will come after us, right?”An hour before Evernight began, Adrian had already devised a plan to lure as many monsters as possible toward his shelter. He hadn’t done so without making preparations.“Zombies and Abominations are still manageable. Those Blood Bears are the hardest ones to defeat.”His undead army would have no trouble holding back the zombies and Abominations. But as for the bears, only Yemima would likely be able to deal with them.“But with the turrets’ help, it shouldn’t be a problem either,” Darla said. “Even if the cannons can’t kill the bears, they should certainly be able to scare them away.”Darla was simply trying to be realistic. Killing a bear was extremely difficult. Scaring one away was already a considerable achievement. There was no need to kill

Growl!Emerging from the mist, an Abomination appeared, wielding a hammer and a mace. It wasn't just one or two. A dozen of them emerged simultaneously.“Huh, trash! If all you can do is rely on your body to attack me, then you deserve to die!”Slash!Slash! The Northern General swung his arms in succession, his sword flashing through the air at incredible speed. With a single flurry of strikes, two Abominations collapsed to the ground, their bodies severed.Slash!Slash!Elsewhere, the Southern General did the same. Leaping into the air, he managed to cleave through two Abominations at once before immediately turning to attack another monster. At Gold tier, fighting these Silver-tier monsters posed no difficulty whatsoever.More Abominations continued to emerge. To deal with them, both generals moved with greater alertness and speed, covering their soldiers whenever necessary.Growl!Another growl, deeper and louder than before, echoed from within the mist.Rather than feeling afraid

“The countdown begins.”The game system's voice echoed across the sky as the giant digital display showed 00:00:10.“Ten.”“Nine.”“Eight.”“Seven.”“Six.”Inside the room, Darla watched the computer screen and saw that the mist was now only a few hundred meters away from the outer perimeter. Given its speed, there was no way the countdown above them could be wrong. In just a few seconds, it would reach them.“Five.”“Four.”At the same time, Adrian stood in the second-floor lobby with his arms folded, his gaze fixed straight ahead. His expression was cold, and his eyes conveyed nothing but calm composure. The point in front of him marked the outer boundary of the region. And the fact that his greenhouse faced directly toward it seemed to suggest that the structure had been designed to confront the monsters that were about to arrive.“If a lord has truly been brought to this New World with the destiny of exterminating monsters, then so be it. I'll fight every last one of them.”“Three
