“Roar!”
Another loud, deep growl rang out as all five turrets began firing in the same direction.
“What is that?”
Adrian narrowed his eyes, trying to get a clearer look at the monster approaching them.
The laser explosions provided brief flashes of light, allowing him to catch a glimpse of his opponent.
“Good grief! Is that… an Abomination?”
The enormous creature, standing roughly two and a half to three meters tall, could vaguely be seen with three heads, three pairs of arms, and three pairs of legs. Judging by its appearance, it was indeed an amalgamation of several dead zombies.
However, unlike ordinary zombies, this creature was formed when several zombies mutated simultaneously and fused into a single being.
And because it was composed of multiple zombies, its strength was many times greater than that of each individual body that made it up.
Before long, several turrets began firing in different directions.
“Damn it! There’s more than one?”
Even a single Abomination was already a serious problem. And there was more than one? This was turning into a disaster!
Roar!
Roar!
Roar!
Three Abominations emerged from the darkness and approached. Although their movements were relatively slow, their strength was not to be underestimated.
“I have to upgrade the weapons now!”
An Abomination was practically impossible to fight with Bronze-tier turrets. Its skin was far more resistant to gunfire.
“Upgrading to Silver tier requires four thousand two hundred Energy Stones. Proceed with the purchase?”
The turret on the roof required one thousand Energy Stones, while each of the remaining turrets cost only eight hundred.
“Damn it! I only have 4,300 Energy Stones left! I can’t spend all of them!”
He had to save some for a truly desperate situation.
“All right! Just upgrade one!”
[One thousand Energy Stones used. The turret has now been upgraded to Silver tier.]
Golden light once again enveloped the turret on the Greenhouse roof. The next second, its silver-colored cannon transformed into a more refined silver weapon. Its original one-meter length extended to two meters.
Besides having a firing range of up to one hundred meters, the weapon could now fire three lasers simultaneously with each shot.
Zap-zap-zap!
Zap-zap-zap!
Zap-zap-zap!
“It only needs one second to reload? This is absolutely worth it!”
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
Roar!
The laser blasts sent the Abomination staggering backward before it crashed to the ground. However, the laser cannon did not stop firing. Until the monster was dead, the weapon would continue to shoot it relentlessly.
“Yes!”
Adrian cried out in excitement.
He no longer had to worry about the horde of creatures getting close enough to his Shelter, let alone destroying it.
However, these monsters were not as stupid as they looked.
While one Abomination struggled desperately to withstand the barrage of laser fire, the others actually quickened their pace and charged closer.
Roar!
“Good grief! Darla! I have to find her!”
At that moment, Adrian remembered that the young woman was still out there.
Swiping across the holographic screen, he purchased a massive searchlight.
[One hundred Energy Stones used. A searchlight has been installed on the perimeter wall.]
Snap!
A beam of light illuminated the barren field ahead.
“T-This is…”
Adrian’s eyes widened.
One Abomination had indeed fallen to the ground.
But roughly one hundred meters ahead, more than ten others were heading straight toward him.
“It’s impossible to hold them off with these weapons! I have to think of something!”
At the same time, his shock grew even greater when he realized Darla was nowhere to be seen.
“Where is she?”
Using mental controls, Adrian manually swept the searchlight in every direction.
With a horde of zombies and two Abominations only a dozen or so meters away, he had very little time to decide what to do.
He could strengthen his weapons and launch a desperate counterattack, or reinforce the defenses and retreat into the Greenhouse.
There was barely any time left to venture outside and rescue the woman.
Even so, Adrian remained where he was.
Darla might not mean much to him personally. But the System had already recognized her as a new member of his Shelter.
If something bad happened to her, the consequences might affect the Shelter as well.
“No! I can’t leave now! I have to bring her back!”

“You do realize you've interrupted my morning, don't you? Arthur, you'd better not disappoint me.”“I would never do that, my lord.”The white-haired man bowed before presenting the holographic screen in his hands to Kaelen.“My lord, look! Of the ninety-nine shelters, only eighteen remain! That means the number of people opposing you has decreased significantly!”“Excellent!”A broad smile spread across Kaelen's face before he burst into laughter. As a lord, he could actually open his own screen and see what was happening for himself. But, of course, he was too lazy to do so.“With so many lords surrendering to me, wouldn't it be more appropriate to consider me a king rather than a mere lord?”That was what he thought.“Besides, why should I bother checking everything myself? That's their job! As my subordinates, they're the ones who should take care of it for me!”All he had to do was relax and enjoy himself while others handled everything. Just as they were doing for him that morni
Chapter 28 - The Fate of the Lords and Kaelen’s Delight
“So these will be exchanged for Bronze-tier soldiers? No problem. With them joining my forces, my army will only continue to grow.”After all the bear and Abomination corpses had been thrown into the altar, only the zombie corpses remained. Although they were the most numerous, they were also the lowest-tier monsters.Even so, the thought of a massive army of undead soldiers marching before him made Adrian’s heart race with excitement.“What? No soldiers are appearing?”His expression immediately changed when ten zombie corpses were thrown in, yet nothing emerged.Instead, the altar produced a hundred Attribute Stones. That meant he would receive ten Stones for every zombie corpse.“All right. It’s fine. At least I’m getting something out of this.”Although he couldn’t hide his disappointment, it wasn’t as though he had gained nothing. There were around three thousand zombie corpses, which meant he had now obtained thirty thousand Attribute Stones.“With reserves like these, I won’t h
Chapter 27 - Reaping the Rewards
“Your strategy was truly brilliant, my lord!”Yemima was helping several injured undead soldiers rest in a special room on the first floor. Around half of the army had sustained serious injuries. Although none of them were life-threatening, the soldiers still needed complete rest to recover.“We managed to kill so many monsters! We didn’t let a single one of them escape!”Drake spoke excitedly. Although his facial expression was difficult to read, consisting of nothing more than a skull, his voice was filled with joy.“I can hardly wait for the next Evernight!”Jaxon was quick to add his own comment. Both generals had also suffered serious injuries after fighting the Blood Bears. However, compared to the victory they had achieved, their injuries meant nothing.“Get some rest.”Adrian patted his generals on the shoulders, a broad smile spreading across his face.“You fought very well tonight. You deserve some rest.”A faint light appeared in the eastern sky. Sunrise was approaching.Al
Chapter 26 - Time for a Counterattack
“Yemima said the monsters’ withdrawal was deliberate preparation for Evernight, didn’t she? That means if we’ve encountered everything from zombies to bears, there’s a good chance those are the very monsters that will come after us, right?”An hour before Evernight began, Adrian had already devised a plan to lure as many monsters as possible toward his shelter. He hadn’t done so without making preparations.“Zombies and Abominations are still manageable. Those Blood Bears are the hardest ones to defeat.”His undead army would have no trouble holding back the zombies and Abominations. But as for the bears, only Yemima would likely be able to deal with them.“But with the turrets’ help, it shouldn’t be a problem either,” Darla said. “Even if the cannons can’t kill the bears, they should certainly be able to scare them away.”Darla was simply trying to be realistic. Killing a bear was extremely difficult. Scaring one away was already a considerable achievement. There was no need to kill
Chapter 25 - The Attack He Had Been Waiting For
Growl!Emerging from the mist, an Abomination appeared, wielding a hammer and a mace. It wasn't just one or two. A dozen of them emerged simultaneously.“Huh, trash! If all you can do is rely on your body to attack me, then you deserve to die!”Slash!Slash! The Northern General swung his arms in succession, his sword flashing through the air at incredible speed. With a single flurry of strikes, two Abominations collapsed to the ground, their bodies severed.Slash!Slash!Elsewhere, the Southern General did the same. Leaping into the air, he managed to cleave through two Abominations at once before immediately turning to attack another monster. At Gold tier, fighting these Silver-tier monsters posed no difficulty whatsoever.More Abominations continued to emerge. To deal with them, both generals moved with greater alertness and speed, covering their soldiers whenever necessary.Growl!Another growl, deeper and louder than before, echoed from within the mist.Rather than feeling afraid
Chapter 24 - The First Evernight
“The countdown begins.”The game system's voice echoed across the sky as the giant digital display showed 00:00:10.“Ten.”“Nine.”“Eight.”“Seven.”“Six.”Inside the room, Darla watched the computer screen and saw that the mist was now only a few hundred meters away from the outer perimeter. Given its speed, there was no way the countdown above them could be wrong. In just a few seconds, it would reach them.“Five.”“Four.”At the same time, Adrian stood in the second-floor lobby with his arms folded, his gaze fixed straight ahead. His expression was cold, and his eyes conveyed nothing but calm composure. The point in front of him marked the outer boundary of the region. And the fact that his greenhouse faced directly toward it seemed to suggest that the structure had been designed to confront the monsters that were about to arrive.“If a lord has truly been brought to this New World with the destiny of exterminating monsters, then so be it. I'll fight every last one of them.”“Three
