Chapter 6 : The recruitment

I hurried to explore the tower, and after walking for a few more minutes, I spotted the elevator and knew I could use it to make leaving the tower much easier.

"Finally, an elevator I can use to get down the tower."

I immediately approached it, and in less than a second, the doors slid open.

As it opened, terrifying creatures inside greeted my sight, making me hesitate for a moment to use it.

"Their appearances are really terrifying."

However, I remembered that no player inside the tower could be harmed, which momentarily put my mind at ease.

A small robot that operated the elevator greeted me and asked which floor I wanted to go to.

"Take me to the main lobby of the tower so I can get out of here."

I stepped inside and waited for it to descend to the main lobby. Over a minute passed before I finally arrived at the lower level and stepped out.

The main lobby of the tower was truly breathtaking and packed with players.

"The inside of this tower's main lobby is massive in person."

Because of its immense size, it could easily hold thousands of warriors. Yet, that same vastness made me wonder where to go and where to start looking.

A short while later, while searching for a direction, I noticed a crowd gathered off to the side.

They were staring at a sign on the wall, which I figured was the reason for the gathering.

I walked over to the crowd, hoping to stumble upon anything that might help me. I peeked at what they were doing and was surprised by what occupied their attention.

"Eskapa Recruitment"

The crowd was buzzing over the recruitment of the Eskapa group, accepting new members into their military forces.

"Ah right, they often recruit new soldiers in the towers."

Eskapa was a group of warriors who fought evil and rescued the weak from criminals. They acted much like an international police force saving innocent people.

ES — Espada — (Sword) KA — Kalasag — (Shield) PA — Pananalig — (Faith)

Those three things were what they embodied to save living beings.

They could be considered a legal group led by the ninth Dark Lord, and they were allowed to participate in the game even if their main objective differed—often hunting down criminals who violated the laws of their god.

Eskapa had ten primary warriors who dubbed themselves the "Weapon of Gods," beings originating from various places in Endoryo.

They declared themselves weapons of the divine sent to eradicate evil and fight against the abuses of the Dark Lords.

They were led by a Hagen named Magdalena Cross, said to be the true child of God sent to earth to save Endoryo from certain destruction.

She was one of the ten Dark Lords conquering Endoryo, but she ruled over nations by turning them into allies of her faith and her cause of saving lives.

She made many believe in her beliefs and advocacies as a loyal servant of God, which was why she had millions of followers.

Unlike the other eight Dark Lords of Endoryo, she did not use the word "conquest" to acquire kingdoms or nations. She did not wage wars for land expansion; instead, she folded kingdoms and nations into allies of her religion.

As I continued to snoop around, I saw the determined reactions of a few individuals about joining the Eskapa organization. Many believed they needed to join Eskapa for the welfare of the weak.

With battles and killings widespread across various parts of the world, some sought safety in this chaotic world, while others truly hoped that helping Eskapa was the mission heaven had given them.

Eskapa helped many people, but there were also those who simply turned their backs and left, as if entirely uninterested in joining.

"Let's get out of here, Mimi; we're just wasting our time," remarked a female warrior.

"Huh? But aren't we going to join them?" her companion asked.

"Are you serious? We won't get anything out of that cult except death," she quickly replied.

That woman's view of Eskapa wasn't favorable because, truthfully, you could survive in Endoryo simply by playing at the bottom of the tower and ignoring the conflicts of the Dark Lords.

Because of Eskapa's interference in the conquests made by the Dark Lords, many of the latter hated the group and killed anyone affiliated with it.

To others, Eskapa was merely pretending and lying about the existence of any god other than Crimson. Driven by a desire to dictate to everyone, they continuously fought the Dark Lords and seized territories under their control.

"Figures, they're just weaklings relying on a fake child of God to save them," she laughed as she said it.

They walked away, continuing to hurl insults as if talking loud enough for everyone around to hear.

"I will never join those losers," she boasted.

I felt a bit annoyed hearing that from her. I don't know why, but her words against people defending the oppressed hit differently.

It was as if she didn't realize how many lives were saved by this so-called cult, which provided protection to the vulnerable.

Then again, she had a point; according to stories, many beings in Endoryo only joined Eskapa for protection and other personal benefits.

They didn't care about God or the virtue of saving those in need, as long as joining Eskapa gave them something in return.

"Free food and shelter once you become an official member of Eskapa—who would turn that down?" I whispered to myself.

Things in this world are complicated, especially regarding your survival as a warrior originating from a town conquered by a Dark Lord. They hold your life, and you never know if you'll be the next one sent to war. You have to obey, especially since you became their property when Crimson handed your country over as a reward to the Dark Lords.

However, I didn't need to worry because I didn't come from any town here in Endoryo, meaning no Dark Lord owned me.

"I don't know, but the situation of ordinary citizens in this world is so tough, which is why some force themselves to climb the tower's ranks."

A moment later, while standing in the crowd, I suddenly noticed a commotion behind me.

It was the voice of a young woman struggling to squeeze through the people just to get to the front.

"Excuse me."

"Please, let me through."

Because of the dense crowd, reaching the front wasn't easy, so the girl shoved and squeezed until she tripped and crashed onto the floor.

"Oh dear—"

Thud!

I heard the girl fall behind me and immediately turned around to help her. No one else cared about anyone around them, so they didn't waste time helping the girl at their feet.

"Huh? Are you okay, miss?"

"Oh dear, how embarrassing, falling in front of so many people," the girl said while sitting on the floor.

As I turned, an exceptionally beautiful being instantly came into view. I was practically left speechless, completely mesmerized.

"Oh my god, what a gorgeous fairy in front of me. She looks like a living doll," I whispered to myself.

From her soft white hair and smooth skin to her sweet voice, you'd honestly mistake her for a fairy from a fantasy story. She wore glasses, yet her golden eyes shone brightly.

I couldn't help staring at her alluring red lips as she spoke to me.

Her white dress and matching skirt complemented her hat, while her long hair was tied with pink ribbons.

But as I stared closer, I noticed something strange on her back. Upon closer inspection, it looked suspiciously like a turtle shell.

Why is there a turtle shell on her back? I whispered to myself.

She looked at me with her sparkling eyes, waiting for a favor.

"Could you help me up, little creature?"
