The thunderous snap of the silver chains echoed through the cavern like cannon fire, rebounding off the obsidian walls and vibrating through the soles of Rowan's boots.

Below the floating platform, the bottomless pit churned with dark violet miasma. Each time one of the colossal chains snapped, the suspended sarcophagus shuddered, leaking a thick, suffocating pressure that made the surrounding stone fracture.

"Look at it, Rowan!" Professor Hale shouted over the deafening roar of the subterranean core. His silver-lined coat whipped in the rising gale, his face illuminated by the harsh, unnatural glow of the altar. "Three hundred years of suppressed hatred, distilled beneath this university! You cannot stop the awakening!"

Declan stumbled as a tremor rocked the platform, forcing him to plant his boots wide. "Rowan, the altar! The four node feeds are converging right under his hands!"

Rowan didn't slow his stride. His expression remained unnervingly still, his dark eyes ablaze with gold and crimson light as his system interface calculated the structural vectors of the platform.

The moment his domain engulfed the floating platform, the erratic gale surrounding them seemed to stall. The violent vibrations underfoot softened into a dull, heavy thrum as Rowan’s aura forcefully asserted control over the ambient pressure.

"Declan," Rowan commanded, his voice piercing through the ambient roar without raising its volume. "The altar's base has three silver alignment pins. They are bound by Mercer hunter runes. When I break Hale’s guard, sever the primary pin with your blood."

Declan gripped his silver hunting knife tighter, his knuckles white. "Got it."

Hale’s grin twisted into a snarl as he saw Rowan walking toward him through the violent energy currents as if taking a stroll in the campus courtyard. "Insolent leech! You think your party tricks work down here?!"

Hale raised his dark wooden staff with both hands, driving its pointed base straight into the center of the crystal altar.

BOOM!

A blinding torrent of violet lightning erupted from the crystal, spiraling outward in four jagged arcs aimed directly at Rowan and Declan. The raw elemental force was potent enough to reduce an upper-tier vampire to ash in seconds.

Rowan didn't dodge. He stepped directly into the path of the lightning, sweeping his right arm across his chest.

[Skill Activated: Blood Veil (Level 1)]

A dense wall of deep crimson fog erupted from his arm, forming an impenetrable arc in mid-air. The violet lightning slammed into the crimson barrier with a deafening screech, but instead of breaking through, the electricity was rapidly absorbed into the fog, turning the red mist into a swirling vortex of refined energy.

Hale’s eyes bulged behind his glasses. "Nonsense! That is raw hybrid energy—you can't process it!"

"Energy is just blood by another name, Professor," Rowan replied coldly, stepping through the dissipating fog.

Rowan blurred.

He closed the twenty-foot gap instantly, appearing right in front of the altar. Before Hale could react, Rowan’s hand shot out like a steel vise, clamping tightly around the head of Hale’s wooden staff.

[Skill Activated: Absolute Blood Pressure (Level 2)]

Rowan squeezed.

CRACK!

The dark wooden staff—a prized artifact reinforced with anti-magic silver inlay—shattered into splinters under Rowan’s grip. The glowing crystal at its tip exploded into useless, dull shards that rained down onto the platform.

"Argh!" Hale shrieked as the feedback blasted him backward. He hit the stone floor, rolling several times before coming to a stop near the edge of the pit, his coat scorched and his glasses cracked.

"Now, Declan!" Rowan called out.

Declan didn't hesitate. He charged the altar, sliced his bandaged palm open with a quick swipe of his knife, and slammed his bloody hand onto the three silver alignment pins at the base of the conduit.

"In the name of the Mercer line," Declan roared, channeling his awakening hunter aura, "shut down!"

TSFFFF!

Golden hunter light surged from Declan's palm, racing into the intricate silver grooves of the altar. The four glowing feeds feeding into the crystal conduit flickered violently, then snuffed out one by one like dying candles.

The violent tremors beneath the platform ceased. The roaring gale died down to a low, eerie whistle, leaving only the sound of heavy breathing in the vast cavern.

Declan let out a long, ragged exhale, collapsing back against the base of the neutralised altar. "Did... did we do it?"

Rowan stood over the altar, feeling the immediate relief in the subterranean ley lines. "The external siphon is dead. Hale’s plan for the assembly is shattered."

From the edge of the pit, a ragged, wheezing laugh echoed across the quiet platform.

Rowan turned his head slowly.

Professor Hale pushed himself up on one elbow, blood dripping from his chin onto his torn collar. His glasses hung lopsided on his face, but his remaining eye gleamed with a terrifying, unhinged triumph.

"You think... you won?" Hale wheezed, his laughter growing louder, echoing madness. "You severed the siphon, boy... but you forgot one thing..."

Hale reached into his inner pocket, pulling out a small, blood-soaked obsidian dagger inscribed with ancient, forbidden runes.

Declan’s eyes went wide. "Rowan, stop him!"

Before Rowan could cross the platform, Hale plunged the obsidian dagger straight into his own chest, driving it through his heart without a single flinch.

"My life force... for the final key!" Hale choked out, blood spilling over his lips as he offered his own death as the final sacrifice. "Wake up... Adrian Crowe!"

Hale’s body went limp, tumbling backward over the edge of the platform into the dark abyss below.

The moment Hale's blood mixed with the miasma beneath, the massive sarcophagus hanging in the center of the pit gave off an absolute, bone-chilling hum.

CRACK!

The final, largest silver chain holding the sarcophagus snapped in half.

The colossal stone coffin plummeted into the depths, crashing into the subterranean floor below with a sound that shook the entire university foundation above.

[CRITICAL ALERT!]

[First Hybrid Seal: DESTROYED]

[Entity Awakened: Adrian Crowe]

[Warning: Supreme Class Entity Active!]

A suffocating, pitch-black aura erupted from the bottom of the pit, rising like a tidal wave of pure terror that shattered the stone platform’s edges and forced Rowan and Declan to retreat toward the exit archway.

From the dark depths below, a quiet, ancient voice echoed—neither loud nor angry, but filled with a sorrow so deep it made the very air freeze:

"Three hundred years... and the hatred still burns."

Rowan stood at the threshold of the archway, his eyes flashing brilliant gold as he placed himself firmly in front of Declan, locking his sight onto the rising shadow below.

The First Hybrid had awakened.
