Kirin weaved through the forest, running in between trees, avoiding roots, trying to evade death as best he could. Seth followed close behind him, and not far from them, the serpent chased with murderous intent. It didn't bother sliding between the trees, rather it smashed through them with its enormous body, the sheer size of the Serpent was enough to make a man barf in fear, its scales protecting it from any physical damage.

"I don't think... we can keep running from that thing" Kirin said, exhaustion and realization slowly overcame him, they couldn't leave the forest while that monster chased them unless they would endanger the lives of weaker humans in settlements not too far from the outskirts.

"Yeah, you're right" Seth responded, "Let's part ways for now to confuse the serpent" he panted, then ran towards his left, Kirin followed his right not knowing exactly where he was running, he looked behind him and his heart dropped to his belly.

Of course, the serpent had locked its sigh

Leo calmly explained the hierarchy that existed in the Central Alliance, there were three walls in the Central Alliance, the outer walls contained everything and everyone, it was also insanely large and covered an immeasurable expanse of land. The second wall that Seth had pointed out to Kirin, was where the middle-class and second-class citizens lived, if you were rich enough then you could afford a house there but if you were poor or couldn't afford to pay the tax then you were thrown out into the slums. In the second wall was the heart of the city, where business boomed and life was relatively better, it's also where The Academy was located, the further down you went, the more refined and expensive things became, it was simply a measure of wealth. The last wall in the heart of the Central Alliance was for Royalty and Incredibly wealthy families, the Arcanus Family for example lived in the third wall, only those from the great Families and descendants of the Emperor were allowed ent

  • Chapter 43. The boy named Leo.

"Are you sure we're in the Central Alliance?" Kirin asked with a low tone as they both walked the streets, Kirin's expectations were crushed, he expected to see the beauty and art he saw in The Water Clan but instead, he was here looking at the slums and beggars that filled the streets, he wasn't sure what to make of them so he ignored them, even when they tried coming to beg him."Look ahead" Seth pointed out, just beyond the houses and the shacks of houses where people lived was another wall, this one didn't seem as big as the one outside had been but it was impressive nonetheless."Is that...the end? Is this it? The entire famed city?" Kirin turned to Seth demanding an explanation but Seth simply laughed as he smacked Kirin on the head."No you fool, the wall has a certain curvature, that's the second wall leading into the center of the City."So... We'll have to go through another gate then?" Kirin asked tiredly, he was already feeling demotivated after going through the ordeal of

  • Chapter 42. Departure.

"We're gonna be late, hurry up" Kirin shouted as he lifted his bag across his shoulders, in the past two weeks he had been here, he had trained over and over again with Seth, they had significantly gotten stronger not because they fought themselves, but because they both went against Wistoria and had their asses handed to them every single time.Although it pained Kirin that he had never won a single fight against that mad woman, he was also happy that he could learn some skills from her.She wasn't here to see them off, but that didn't matter, they had been given admission into The Academy. The Academy was a renowned warrior school, funded by the Emperor himself, it was filled with nothing more than Nobles and the likes, children from high families gathered there to train and become fully-fledged warriors after three years. Some have the opportunity of joining the government ranks while others prefer to join the military, or go back to their families and start a business or lead the

Footsteps sounded behind Kirin, he turned around and looked at Wistoria walking towards him, she unfolded her arms and clapped thrice."Good, very good" she smiled at Kirin who looked away from her. To him this didn't feel like a victory, just a win, a mere win, he felt no pleasure in it, nor did looking at Seth's unconscious body bring him any sense of relief, he simply just felt empty."Why the long face, you won," Wistoria said as she stood by his side."It doesn't feel... right" Kirin whispered, he was right of course, this was the first time he and Seth had ever fought and what made it so painfully mundane was the reason for the fight, he wasn't even sure what it was.Wistoria watched him for a bit before she walked away from him towards Seth who was still unconscious, she summoned water from thin air and surrounded Seth.He looked like he was in a blue bubble, suspended from within, the blue bubble of water shone brighter as it mended the injuries and stitches around Seth's body

  • Chapter 40. Reconciled.

"I don't need to explain why I called both of you here," Wistoria said calmly as she raised her hand, the reason she was doing this was really simple, she wanted to see the prowess of Kirin against someone of his own rank and also to see that Seth was made off, if he was good enough, she would take interest in him.The two of them faced each other, Bokken in hand, in truth, this was the first time that Kirin would ever face off against Seth, it had never occurred to battle against each other, because it always made sense for them to get enough rest as possible to kill the next monster that came their way.Kirin's eyes darted between Wistoria's raised hand and Seth, Seth knew of his flaws and skills, he also knew that Kirin could only use one element, that one element he was very proficient in."Start" Wistoria's hand swung downwards as if slicing the air.Seth acted first, unlike Kirin who could use only one element, he could use all as many as he had mastered, including lightning. He

  • Chapter 39. Carnage.

Seth felt the lightning coursing through his body, leaving him shaken and immobile. It was the first time he had ever been struck with lightning of this lethality. His mind and body were numb, unable to evade it. He didn't think Kirin would go this far to do something like this to him.He gritted his teeth in anger, trying to move the limbs in his body but to no avail, he couldn't even lift a single muscle, it's like he had been transfixed by lightning, the odd thing was that he wasn't being severely damaged, sure it hurt like hell, hurt more than anything he could currently think of but it wasn't causing damage to his Internal organs. But that just made Seth even more upset, solely because this level of lightning control was unknown to him. Sure, the masters at peak level cultivation or higher could manage something like this, but he wouldn't even dare, not until he had reached that level. But Kirin was different. Inherently, he was just better than the rest, better than him, and wha
