What does this System do exactly?

Deep in the night, Theresa woke up with a start and looked around, it was dark, so she couldn't see much of their surroundings; but she could still feel around the bed.

Her hands searched the bed and soon, she could feel the warm body of little Rin just beside her.

'Where did Corey go?' she wondered in a bit of anxiety.

Then she left the bed and moved out, taking a small match and lighting up the candle, it was finally bright enough to let her see her surroundings.

Corey was not in this room.

She frowned and opened a door to leave the room, then closed it behind her.

And with just that, she was in a whole different setting.

Here, it was filled with dust and even though only the candlelight brightened the area, you could see many broken and disgusting objects.

For Theresa, it was a usual sight, so she didn't mind and moved around the trash to head outside.

This building that they lived in was in the middle of a garbage dump, so no matter how much they cleaned it, it would still become dirty in days if not in hours.

And even if they somehow cleaned it well, that would only bring trouble from other slum dwellers.

Clean houses were a coveted thing.

So they only kept the place they slept very clean and the rest were often just left dirty. Even the smell of garbage inside their room was something that they had already gotten used to.

Moving a small drum with her legs, Theresa squatted and moved out of a small hole.

Outside, the moonlight was bright today and it wasn't that dark. She looked at Corey seated in the middle of two mountains of garbage and sighed in relief.

"What are you doing here in the middle of the night Corey? It's so cold here..." She said loudly and moved towards him.

Corey had already seen the light, so he knew she was coming, but he didn't seem apologetic at all, rather, he seemed like he was still deep in thought.

"I am asking you!" Theresa came infront of him and lightly slapped him on the head.

Waking up from his daze, he looked at Theresa and just stayed silent for a long time.

Even Theresa was affected by the mood and just stood silent while frowning.

"Big Sis..." Corey suddenly said, "While you were asleep, I took two more drops of your blood and asked it some questions."

"What questions? What are you talking about?" Theresa was a bit disconnected since she hadn't really understood much due to feeling dizzy earlier.

"I asked the Screen what is a blood heir and..." Corey gulped, "I think, all our hardships are going to end Big Sis, I think we finally have some hope."

Theresa silently looked at him.

Honestly, she first wanted to get back into their home before speaking, the smell here was much harsher in comparison to their room. But she decided to listen.

"The screen said all the people called Filthblood like us are a part of an ancient bloodline, that bloodline makes them stronger than ordinary and a Blood Heir is the one with the highest purity of ancient blood in him."

Theresa was stunned. The government and public had been trying to find out the origins of Filthblood for years now.

Had they been higher in numbers, they would have already conquered the world.

Her heart beating heavily, Theresa said in disbelief, "We seem to really have been put in the middle of something big."

Corey was also a bit nervous, but he spoke with conviction, "Big Sis, I then asked another question, What is the purpose of the system suddenly appearing in front of me."

Sure it chose him since he had the purest Ancient Bloodline. But what about its purpose, what was it choosing him for?

"It said it wanted to restore the Ancient Blood Clan and bring it back to glory. And to do that, it had supposedly unlocked some kind of bloodline lock in me that kept my strength limited and now I can grow stronger and become like those legendary Filthbloods who can fight guns and arrows with only their body."

Theresa stared at him with wide eyes.

Even the Filthbloods who had powers, as far as the world knew, they were born with that power. It could never increase beyond what they had at a young age.

But Corey can grow stronger?

"If I... Big Sis, if I grow strong enough, then who can tell us to not go somewhere? Wouldn't we be free? Rin could go to one of those schools that she always wanted. You could finally get a bike that you always thought was cool.

And I could finally see the real world.

Wasn't that what we always wanted?" Corey spoke with a confused voice.

Theresa put the candle down and asked, "Then what is the problem? Isn't that a good thing?"

"It is a good thing... A great thing." Corey clenched her hands in his. "But... If I am thinking correctly, this screen doesn't only bring good news... Sister, I have a feeling that it wants me to take revenge for us Filthbloods."

It was just his gut. He had also hated humans with a passion and even swore to kill once.

Somehow, he had a feeling it would ask him to do that at some point.

How can he even bring the Ancient Bloodline – filthbloods – to glory without suppressing humans?

Theresa looked straight at him. "Corey, look into your big sis's eyes."

Corey looked back at her clear blue eyes.

"If you don't want to use it, just don't use it. Don't worry about Rin wanting to go to school or me wanting some stupid bike. That's all just our whims."

Actually, Theresa was happy as it was now. These days were the happiest she had ever been in her whole life.

She didn't want to risk that happiness for something ominous.

Corey though, only shook his head. "I am not confused or fearful because I don't want to use it, I am confused... Because I don't feel any reason not to use it. Because it seems... I can't feel any compassion for humans anymore like you two."

That made him fear that he was more of a monster just as they used to call him. That made him wonder if he was worthy of being by Theresa and Rin's side.

Theresa couldn't say anything for a while and could only hold his hands tighter.

But then she said with conviction. "Don't worry Corey, your big sis won't let you go down the wrong path in life."

Corey sighed; that felt like a big burden out of his chest.
