“Man, I’mma be blunt with you—fact that we got along—”

“Who said we got along?” Charles interrupted.

“I don’t give a shit what you think about our relationship, but if you have any plan of doing something creepy with Sadie, drop it right now.”

Charles shook his head slowly. Thomas was a lost cause. “You hungry?”

“This isn’t a joking matter,” Thomas snapped.

“I didn’t say it was,” Charles replied, resuming his walk to the kitchen. “But your words so far…they come from the place of hunger.”

“She could’ve gotten married to Cox—”

“Went to settle some scores with the guy who did shit to my brother,” Charles blurted, cutting him off.

Thomas froze for a second but continued: “Outside New York?”

“I’ll appreciate it if we let this topic slide,” Charles muttered, cold but firm. He needed space, and Thomas needed to understand that.

Thomas didn’t push. As much as he knew Charles wouldn’t admit it, bringin

Charles hissed under his breath, rolled his eyes, and left with Hailey. After his measurements, Hailey had already gotten what she wanted and was waiting for him outside. She got a text from Daniel: “Solid.”She quickly deleted the message, her hands trembling. What was she supposed to do if it really turned out that Charles didn’t have the male organ? Her face flushed as Charles approached, calm and clueless. She wished the ground would open and swallow her whole. What she just did in the last few minutes needed to go with her to the grave. Because—what the hell was that?“When am I going to get the shorts?” Charles asked casually as they walked toward the cashier.“Two days. I’ll make sure it gets to you,” Hailey said quickly, her voice thinner than she wanted. The cashier’s section was already a circus.“Thank you, ma’am! God bless you!” people kept echoing as the cashiers scanned piles of goods.Mrs. Harrington stood in the middle like a queen distributing alms, smiling and waving

The woman looked around to be sure she was the one being called before walking over. All the while, Charles watched the drama with half of his mouth opened and a part of his brain questioning if this was the woman that was his mother-in-law for like two years. Even with the sunglasses, Charles knew this was Emmy’s mother.“How much is everything you bought? I want to pay double of it,” Emmy’s mother told the other woman driving the cart when she came closer. The woman frowned. “Excuse me?”“I want to pay for you,” she waved her card like it was all that mattered in the world and she wasn’t fucking acting crazy right now.“Don’t worry, ma’am,” the woman said uncomfortably, a little bit offended.“Come on, don’t reject my help. I know you don’t have enough to cover that stuff you bought,” Emmy’s mother said with a sweet smile.Hailey had been there all along, signalling Daniel not to do anything. Because he knew how this guy gets irritated easily. It was even a miracle that he hadn’t ex

Charles was in the office, just finishing some work when his phone rang. He frowned. Why was Hailey calling? He answered immediately.“Is everything okay?” Charles asked.“Yes. Are you busy?” she asked.Charles glanced at the clock. Almost lunchtime. “Not really. Something you want to tell me?”“I’m somewhere right now. Granny said not to come alone, and I didn’t bring any security—I didn’t want anyone to know I was here. Please don’t call big sis.”Charles let out a sigh of relief he didn’t realize he was holding. Okay, this was fine.“Where are you?”After she told him, he instructed the front desk briefly, then got into his car and drove to the boutique Hailey had mentioned. As he stepped out, she waved. Sunglasses shielding her expression. Honestly, what’s the best way to call attention to yourself in a simple boutique like this?Hailey’s heart pounded. She knew what she was doing was risky—the last thing anyone should catch her doing. She had called a friend who owned the boutiqu

“Roger hasn’t been able to do anything since you two got together, and I agreed that he should help us out,” Mr. Harrington told Emmy. The rest of the family was gathered too.The contract Emmy lost yesterday had shaken the already fragile family business. Two partner companies had pulled back, and Mr. Harrington had spent the entire night with major shareholders, feeding them nonsense about how a pig could fly if they only had patience.“He’s trying his best too,” Emmy protested.“Are we going to blame him if he stopped doing anything?” Emmy’s mother asked, irritation sharp in her tone, as if ready to snap at her husband for all of this.“All the steps that man is taking, that stupid boy is going around messing it up,” one of Emmy’s brothers added heatedly.“I think this is all my fault,” Emmy muttered. “I shouldn’t have made it obvious that his leaving us meant something.”“I knew this would backfire on us, and when you suggest

“You might actually get in trouble soon if you do this every time,” Sadie said as they waited for the coffee to brew.“I wasn’t trying to defend you or anything,” Charles added quickly, before she could take it the wrong way.“By the end of the contract, you’ll leave a lot of problems for me to handle,” Sadie muttered.“I don’t think that’s the case. If you think about it, I’ve promoted your name so much in the last few days that I deserve a prize,” Charles said, leaning back casually.“You think that’s the case?” Sadie asked. “Not that you used my name to promote yours?”“You’re the one who needs promotion.”“There’s no one in New York who doesn’t know my name, Charles. So, stop getting ahead of yourself.” She grabbed one of the two cups of coffee.“On a serious note, though, that man needs to be taught a lesson.”“I don’t have his time.”“I told you a similar thing too when you insisted on getting som

“One…” Charles started counting.“But, Charles, don’t you think you’re taking it too far? Sadie didn’t even agree to date you. You forced her. If I’m wrong, tell me now.”“Three…” Charles continued counting. What a rude man! one comment read. He’s trash! He’s a fool!Golddigger!“Guys, this is what happens today,” Cox said into the camera, suddenly playing the advocate for human rights. “Men without money or status get trampled by people we don’t even know. Mafia? Drug dealers? Who knows.”“Ten…” Charles counted, steady and cold.“And you wonder why a man like him is in the house of our celebrity woman. The woman many look up to.”“You know, Cox,” Charles said, “I let you go the other day because you probably had no choice in that wedding scene… but you’re really pissing me off now.”“This is just the beginning!” Cox barked. “Sadie was mine from the start! And you’re turning her into a bad woman! Wha
