That afternoon, inside the master suite of Karl and Luana’s apartment, the air was heavy and the walls were shaking. The bed creaked rhythmically until—

BANG BANG BANG.

A sudden, furious knock at the front door brought everything to a halt. The bed went still. Luana’s feet lay limp at the edge of the mattress, unmoving. Karl’s, on the other hand, jerked sharply as he reacted to the noise. He scrambled beneath the blankets in a panicked shuffle.

Sweat-soaked and startled, Karl poked his head out from under the covers. His face was flushed and disoriented, clearly caught off guard by the interruption.

“Mr. Carvalho? Miss Barros?” came the voice of Sergeant Ribeiro through the door, stern and unmistakable.

“Damn it,” Karl muttered through gritted teeth.

With awkward urgency, he disentangled himself from Luana’s exhausted body and threw aside the blanket.

In his rush, he only grabbed a pillow to cover himself, stumbling barefoot out of the room and into the living room. Clothes and shoes

  • Chapter 536 Do You Speak English?

Inside the sinister warehouse bathed in the harsh light of late afternoon, Ivan winced in pain, clutching the side of his face but not daring to retaliate or flee. The punch he had just received from Mark Ferro left a clear mark — both physically and psychologically.“Ouch... what was that?” Ivan grumbled, still stunned. “You punch like one of those Eastern fighters.”Mark’s icy gaze fell on him with undisguised contempt. To Mark, learning martial arts was as natural as learning to cook — just another skill one ought to master. But for those who knew better — like Vargas and Rubem — there was no mistaking the truth: the training Mark had endured wasn’t ordinary. In fact, they estimated he had used barely twenty percent of his strength, and still, the damage to Ivan's face was proof of his exceptional prowess.Mark’s voice dropped to a glacial register. “Are you the manager of Red House?”Ivan’s eyes went wide. So that was what this was about.“I... I don’t have the freedom to discuss

  • Chapter 535 Briana Decided To Do Something

Briana was working feverishly at her computer in her office at Glamour, her attention only momentarily diverted as Gene stepped in, bringing news.“Mary Ellen’s being discharged, but she’s heading straight back to her apartment,” Gene informed her. “Celia probably won’t show up for work tomorrow.”Briana gave him a warm smile. “Oh, I know. Well, if HR is fine with that...”“We definitely are. They seem to be the only friends each other has,” Gene replied, scratching the back of his neck.“I’ve become friends with both of them too,” Briana said gently.Gene hesitated. “Even with Celia being the ex-wife of manager Ferro?”The warmth in Briana’s smile faded. She rose slowly from her chair, and Gene instantly regretted opening his mouth.“Gene, I’m getting tired of people gossiping about Celia just because of what happened at the company,” Briana said firmly. “Just because she had an affair with Adrian Curtis to climb the corporate ladder, now she’s treated like some tramp who purposefull

  • Chapter 534 You’d Know All about Violations

Mark sat at his desk in the Glamour offices that afternoon, scrutinizing the pilot script for the sitcom It Had to Be You. The room was quiet, save for the rustle of pages — until his phone rang, slicing through the silence. He glanced at the screen. The name Vargas flashed on the display. A subtle smile curled on Mark’s lips as he answered.“Everything ready?”Meanwhile, in the same eerie warehouse where Briana had once been held and where Anthony Curtis met his end, Vargas stood near a shattered window.Inside, Ivan sat on a metal chair — unbound, but clearly too terrified to move. Rubem and the driver of the black car flanked him like silent sentinels.“All ready, sir,” Vargas replied curtly.“Perfect. I’m on my way,” said Mark, before ending the call.Vargas lowered the phone and turned toward Ivan with disgust.“I did everything you people told me to!” Ivan pleaded, voice trembling. “I deserve to know who’s really behind this!”“Shut up, you worm,” Vargas snapped.“This is a huma

Sandro and Nadir were in high spirits in his office, in the heart of the Vasconcelos Company. The long-awaited decision from Althea had just been emailed to every director, manager, supervisor, and section chief. Sandro, practically bouncing with excitement, turned to his wife.“It’s done, dear! The message is out! Everyone will soon know about my dear mother’s decision!”Nadir beamed with satisfaction, her tone softening into something more suggestive. “Justice does exist in this world... So, shall we celebrate tonight?”Sandro was just beginning to feel the creeping nervous sweat of anticipation when the office door — already slightly ajar — was violently kicked open.Gilson stormed in, rage written all over his face. The sudden noise startled Nadir so violently she nearly collapsed onto Sandro, who barely caught her in time. From Gilson’s perspective, it looked like the two were seconds away from making love on the desk.“You degenerates!” he roared. “Can’t you wait to get back to

Ivan hesitated, his voice tight with suspicion. “Who is it?”“Room service!” came a muffled voice from the other side.Ivan froze. There hadn’t been any room service when he checked in — there never was.A jolt of alarm shot through him. He rushed to the window and leaned out. From this height, a jump was suicide. No fire escape, no awning, not even a pile of trash to cushion the fall.He pursed his lips, paralyzed by indecision. He’d already answered, so it was too late to pretend he wasn’t there.Just as he made up his mind to confront whoever it was, the door exploded inward with a violent crash. Rubem stormed in, gun drawn.“Who the hell are you?” Ivan tried to keep his voice steady, feigning bravado.“You really think I’m gonna tell you that?” Rubem replied, cold and unimpressed.Ivan clenched his fists, brows furrowed. Was it time to make a move?“Don’t move a muscle!” Rubem barked, stepping closer. “Here’s the deal, dumbass: I don’t wanna waste you. If you cooperate, you might

  • Chapter 531 Tail Work

Celia took advantage of her lunch break to visit her best friend Mary Ellen during the afternoon at Braspolis General Hospital. The hospital room was filled with a sense of optimism. Mary Ellen, propped up against the headboard of her bed, looked bright and cheerful after finishing lunch. Her face lit up with a knowing smile.“Celia, I have good news for you,” she said.Celia leaned in eagerly. “Tell me now!”“Dr. Vargas told me I’ll be discharged tomorrow!”“Yes! That’s great!”The two women squealed in delight, completely unaware that Dr. Vargas didn’t actually exist. Their brief celebration was cut short when a nurse entered the room, frowning at the commotion.“Young ladies, please behave. This is a hospital, not a nightclub.”Mary Ellen quickly composed herself. “Sorry, nurse.”Celia rolled her eyes. “What a terrible comparison. Haven’t you seen on TV those nightclubs that were actually fronts for prostitution rings being shut down?”A shiver ran through Mary Ellen. “I wonder if

Around midday in the Vasconcelos Company.Sandro returned to Gilson’s office holding a freshly printed list. He handed the paper to Althea, who took it with the calm authority of someone who still quietly ruled the company. Her sharp eyes scanned the document.“Hmm... this list is more specific,” she noted. “And some series were spared.”Raising her head, she looked directly at Gilson, calm but firm.“There are a few shows here I’d like to keep,” she continued. “The audience margins are still solid. And...”She pointed to a particular drama series on the page.“I’m watching this one.”Katrina and Claudia exchanged glances, clearly frustrated. Gilson swallowed hard, staring into the distance, unwilling to voice his defeat.“My children,” Althea said, her voice carrying a tone of finality, “I understand your concern about the funds we need. But now, with Sodré Bank investing in us, it’s time to move forward. There’s nothing to fear. With Sandro’s strategic adjustments, we can overcome t

At Vasconcelos Company, in Gilson’s office, Althea sat at his desk, flipping through performance reports of various TV shows. Her eyes narrowed as she scanned the list of which series were slated for cancellation.“Are you sure you're cutting these shows?” she asked with a pointed tone.Gilson, seated nearby, responded slyly, “These programs have pitiful ratings, Mom.”Althea’s voice was calm, but critical. “That’s not how it looks to me. Gilson, be very careful. I know we’re focused on You Can’t Buy Happiness...”Claudia, lounging with a bit too much confidence, cut in smoothly, “Althea, don’t worry. Trust your son’s business instincts, like you always have.”Just then, Katrina swept into the room with a confident smile. “Hello, Grandma! Are you comfortable in that chair?”“I am, my dear. Thank you,” Althea replied warmly. “I’m just reviewing this list, though I’m not sure I approve.”Claudia leaned toward Katrina and whispered in her ear, “We’re canceling Briana’s shows.”Katrina li

Sandro realized too late the blunder he'd made.“Uh... I'm sorry... There are just so many assistants who sleep with my older brother, trying to get pregnant so they can live off child support...”Celia shot back, sharp as a blade. “But he doesn’t get anyone pregnant because he doesn’t do it the ‘normal’ way, right? He’s devilishly clever, and he knows it!”Sandro, shaken but still trying to make sense of things, asked, “But if you didn’t want it with him, why didn’t you ever call the police?”Celia opened her mouth to answer — but the words caught in her throat. The truth was complicated. She hadn’t reported Gilson because he wasn’t the only man she’d slept with. The others had been different, relationships she had planned, consented to.She quickly changed the subject.“Uh... hey, didn’t you want to talk to your daughter? Be my guest!”Without waiting for a reply, she stormed out of the office, slamming the door behind her. Sandro shook his head, frustrated and confused.“I thought
