At the Régio Hotel that night, Mark was deeply upset after hearing Celia’s decision. She told him she would accept being fired, if that meant avoiding more problems for him.

But Mark could not accept such a sacrifice, and his voice came sharp in response.

“Celia, don’t be ridiculous,” he said, frowning. “Who’s speculating that we’re having an affair?”

On the other end, in Jake’s apartment, Celia sat on the sofa with tears glistening in her eyes, her voice breaking with desperation.

“It’s not that we are having an affair,” she whispered. “People are gossiping that one day we will...”

“That’s a lie!” Mark cut in, fierce and determined. “All of this is just your fears talking.”

“You think I don’t have reasons to be afraid, Mark?” she shot back.

“No,” he said firmly. “You’re my ex-wife, and you sacrificed yourself for Brie without even knowing it. You deserve to be rewarded, not punished.”
