CHAPTER 02

Flashing a manful grin, Sawyer peered into her eyes and his fingers spiritedly wrapped around her tapered waist, as if he was asserting in front of her family members that Sasha was his woman.

“Y-You!” Sasha nearly froze in shock.

She couldn’t believe that it was Sawyer standing next to her.

She had definitely pushed him out through the window and even closed it.

So, how did he climb back up to the first floor?

Sasha couldn’t get her head around what just happened.

On top of it, her family members who were already pissed off at her, now had gazes glowing like burning stoves.

“T-They will eat you alive,” Sasha uttered in a low voice. “Why did you come back? Do you not value your life? Do you think your recklessness will bring you out of your poorness?”

“I have three major goals, miss,” Sawyer responded in a similar wavelength. “The first is to find a cure for my sister’s complicated condition. The second is to marry a woman who can help mankind. The third is… to bring peace to this world before my kids are born.”

The first sentence made sense to Sasha as it was expected to come out of a poor man’s mouth, but the next two sentences sounded more like a fantasy than a dream.

Either way, she was in a spot now. She could care less about a nobody’s dreams.

“Don’t tell them you’re poor,” Sasha whispered as she came a step down the stairs. “Tell them you’re a vice president of a bank. You earn about 150K per year. It’s not much, but it’s better than revealing your real revenue.”

“I don’t want to lie, though.”

“If you don’t lie, you will die.”

“But one lie begets another.”

“Just shut up. You won’t be seeing me or my family after this breakfast, so just lie your way through if you want to live!” she scolded him in a low voice.

If only her family members weren’t watching, Sasha would have surely taught this prick his place for touching her without her permission!

“He’s taking advantage of me, Sasha Deville, whom many powerful men sought favor from,” Sasha also couldn’t wait to teach this philanderer a lesson.

Sasha could see her father, David Deville, giving her an unblinking stare, not even bothering to eat the food on the plate.

It was even more the case for Sasha’s mother, Maria, and the same could be said for the other ten family members sitting at the table.

Their rigid, odious expressions gave away their inner feelings.

“With what face did you come to eat?” Maria questioned her daughter in a sharp tone. “How could you bring a stranger into your room? You think this house is a brothel?”

“M-Mom…” Sasha frowned and couldn’t respond. She looked like a squirrel with an acorn stuck in her throat.

Sawyer, however, pulled a chair back and gestured Sasha to sit, surprising everyone.

What was with this guy?

How could he be calm when the air was so tense and nerve-wracking for her?

After Sasha hesitantly sat down, he sat right next to her.

“Shameless. Utterly shameless,” Maria openly cussed, her long sparkling earrings waving to and fro. “If you stick with trash, you’ll become trash, too, Sasha.”

“He looks like he’s in late twenties or early thirties, maybe?” Sasha’s sister, Noelle, said. She had stylish bangs for haircut. “I didn’t know that you liked older men, Sis.”

Sasha wanted to tell her younger sibling to shut up, but she couldn’t do so in this nervy atmosphere.

“How old are you, dear?” Sawyer looked at Sasha.

(Dear? This guy…!) Sasha didn’t want to answer, but she forced out a smile and said, “23.”

“Oh, I’m 32,” he replied.

“Nine years of difference?” Noelle scoffed. “That’s a little too much, I think. And he’s wearing a T-shirt. Who wears T-shirts on dates? He must be piss-poor, though he seems to be a fan of the Empyrean just like me.”

“No one asked for your opinion,” David coldly glanced at Noelle, making her shut up. His gaze then shifted to Sawyer. “You… instead of apologizing to us first, you sat down at our table and started eating and talking brazenly. You have no manners or decency. Someone like you can never become my son-in-law. If I ever see you with Sasha again, I will erase you from this world.”

Sasha expected her father to threaten like this. She thought this would make Sawyer sweat.

Sawyer remembered the words Sasha spoke last night while in her drunken stupor.

She told him how her family members were all selfish, and that her parents only started treating her well after she began earning a good salary, and how her family members used her salary for their daily needs, making it quite hard to save money.

Now, they were also trying to get her married to a rich guy so they could use her to pave their own future.

“I want to marry your daughter,” Sawyer said, holding Sasha’s hand in front of everyone as he thought this would be the best route instead of arguing with them.

Maria and some others ended up coughing out the food that was in their mouths.

Even David coughed hard and had to sip some water.

“You want to marry my daughter and enter the great Deville family?” Maria growled. “How preposterous!”

“Being nice-looking isn’t enough. Even male prostitutes look handsome. If you want money, tell me how much you want,” David uttered, his voice somewhat quivering in rage. “I’ll sign the check right away and throw it in your face.”

“Dad,” Darius, the elder brother of Sasha, voiced his mind in worry, “what if he asks for an absurd amount?”

“Pfft, brother,” Noelle laughed, “I doubt this guy even knows the difference between a million and a billion.”

“Oh, I think I do know the difference,” Sawyer innocently replied. “Your face looks like a million dollars, but Sasha’s face looks like a billion dollars. Am I right?”

Noelle’s face turned ashen. “Y-You…” she quickly looked at her mother. “Mom, call Big Dog and get this clown kicked out!”

Sasha was startled because she had seen Big Dog choke a tiger to death with an elbow lock just because it growled at Maria once from behind the fence.

At this rate, Sawyer might really get killed.
