CHAPTER 10

Immediately the evacuation commander's face turned dark red with humiliation and rage. He couldn't believe that some desperate woman had actually dared to strike him across the face in front of all his subordinates. His authority had been publicly challenged and undermined in the worst possible way. Every soldier under his command had witnessed a civilian assault their commanding officer without consequence.

Although he had to admit that Rose was an exceptionally beautiful woman, that wasn't going to save her from facing serious consequences for her actions. He was going to make sure she learned a harsh lesson about respecting military authority and chain of command.

“Sergeant Rodriguez! Lieutenant Chen! Corporal Williams!” he barked out orders to his men. “Surround these three civilians immediately! Form a defensive perimeter around them!”

Immediately his soldiers quickly moved into position, creating a tight circle around Rose and her parents. Each man had his hand resting on his weapon, ready to draw at the first sign of resistance. The commander reached down and tapped the gleaming badge prominently displayed on his chest, making sure everyone could see the insignia clearly.

“Take a good look at this badge, lady. I am a one-star Sergeant in the Super Soldier division. That puts me three full ranks above the lowest military classification in our entire armed forces. I have earned my position through years of combat experience and demon hunting missions.”

The commander stepped forward into the circle his men had formed, moving closer to Rose with each word. His voice dripped with menace and barely controlled violence.

“You have made the biggest mistake of your pathetic life by coming here to slap me and threaten my soldiers.”

At that moment Rose squared her shoulders and clenched her fists, her maternal instincts overriding any sense of self-preservation. She was prepared to fight this arrogant man with everything she had if it meant getting through the evacuation barrier to reach her daughter.

Master Lawrence's eyes swept frantically across the crowded evacuation zone, searching through the faces of panicked civilians and stern-faced soldiers. His expression grew increasingly worried as the seconds ticked by without any sign of the man his daughter had just defended so passionately.

“Where in the world is Alex?” Master Lawrence demanded, his voice carrying a note of disgust and disappointment.

“Rose just chose him over all these distinguished military officers, yet he's completely disappeared from sight. Not a single trace of him anywhere.”

Mrs. Lawrence shook her head bitterly as she continued scanning the area around them with growing frustration.

“This is exactly what happened five years ago, isn't it? The moment there's real danger or responsibility involved, he just vanishes into thin air like some coward. He abandons Rose when she needs him most, and he's doing it again.”

Rose suddenly realized with a sinking heart that her parents were absolutely right. Alex was nowhere to be seen among the crowd of people who had rushed here from the military gathering. Everyone else had followed her to help - Henry King, Lewis, all the other commanders and officials - but Alex had simply disappeared without a word or explanation.

A wave of bitter disappointment crashed over her. Could it really be possible that everything Alex had shown her today was nothing but an elaborate fake performance? Had he been putting on an act just to win her back, only to abandon her and their daughter the moment real danger presented itself?

The evacuation commander was just beginning to step forward with his fists clenched, ready to teach Rose a physical lesson about respecting military authority, when a commanding voice cut through the air like a blade.

“Take one more step toward her and your head will be permanently severed from your body.”

King of War Henry King emerged from the crowd, his presence immediately commanding the attention of every single person in the vicinity. His battle-hardened face showed absolutely no mercy or hesitation.

Immediately the evacuation commander felt his blood turn to ice water in his veins. His entire body began trembling uncontrollably as he recognized one of the most powerful and feared military leaders in the entire country. He didn't dare speak a single word or even breathe too loudly in the presence of such overwhelming authority. Without any hesitation, he dropped to his knees in absolute submission.

Just as his knees hit the ground, his military communication device started ringing with an urgent incoming call. With shaking hands, he answered to hear his direct superior's voice barking orders through the speaker.

“Sergeant, you are to immediately grant Rose Lawrence full access and clearance to enter the Cliff Area without any further delays or obstacles.”

Just at that moment, Lewis Brown pushed his way through the crowd of evacuees and military personnel, breathing heavily from having run somewhere in a hurry. His face showed genuine concern and determination as he approached Rose and her family.

“Rose, I figured they wouldn't let you through the standard checkpoints, so I got delayed making some urgent calls to my contacts in the command structure. I pulled every string I had available to help get you the clearance you need.”

Right behind Lewis, the three other head commanders appeared with a full squad of armed soldiers following closely behind them. Their gear was loaded with advanced weapons and protective equipment, clearly prepared for serious combat operations. The lead commander stepped forward to address the group.

“We have absolutely no intelligence about how many hostile monsters have managed to breach the Cliff Area defenses. The situation could be anywhere from a single stray demon to a full-scale invasion force. That's why we came prepared with a complete tactical unit and heavy firepower support.”

At that moment Rose felt a warm surge of gratitude and relief washing over her as she looked at all these brave men who had dropped everything to help her in this desperate situation. For those terrible few minutes, she had genuinely believed she was completely alone and abandoned. When she had noticed that Alex hadn't followed her to the evacuation zone like everyone else had, a cold fear had settled in her heart that she would have to face this nightmare by herself.

But here were Henry King, Lewis Brown, and all the other military leaders who had put aside their personal conflicts and rivalry to stand beside her when she needed help most. They were willing to risk their own lives to help her save her daughter.

Master Lawrence watched his daughter's grateful expression as she looked at the assembled group of honorable men, then shook his head with disgust and disappointment.

“This whole situation just proves my point completely. Alex should be permanently removed from consideration, and Rose should choose one of these dedicated men who actually showed up when it mattered.”
