Rose Leighton's funeral was quiet. Only a few people came considering Rose wasn't much of a socialite. She was just an unconsidered wife, and her husband didn't even show up on the day of her funeral.

"My condolences, Victor," said Giselle, Antonio's first wife and mother to Verlaine, Vivian, and Vasco. With a haughty face, Giselle quietly mocked Victor.

Victor bowed his head, unwilling to respond.

"I brought a message from Antonio. He couldn't come because he was busy," Giselle said.

"Even if he's not working, he won't come. You don't need to make an excuse because I know what he thought of my mother," Victor replied without looking at Giselle.

"How dare you say that?" asked Vivian in an annoyed tone, but Giselle held her back and smiled.

"You know your father well, Victor. I'm glad you understand your position, and you shouldn't be so cocky. You should be grateful that Antonio still wants to hold a funeral for your mother."

Victor clenched his fists. He remembered what Antonio had said last night about Rose's funeral, which made his heart ache.

Giselle saw Simon Drave and Erica Drave, Rose's parents, who were just downcast, crying over the death of their first child. Giselle approached them, and the two people immediately wiped away tears, smiling kindly at Giselle.

"Mrs. Giselle, thank you for coming," Simon said.

"It's like you're welcoming a guest to your daughter's birthday party, Mr. Simon. Why are you talking like that? I'm coming because it's my sister Rose's funeral."

"I understand that you are very busy taking care of the family business, ma'am. You even came on behalf of Mr. Antonio."

"It's a pity Antonio can't come. It would have been nice if he could have come, at least to see your face."

Victor watched with a cold face. He saw how his grandparents were treated so lowly as if they were enslaved. To continue being a business partner of the Leighton family, Simon had to restrain himself, even though he could not cry over his daughter's death when Giselle came.

"It's like they have no self-esteem," Victor muttered, feeling pity and sadness.

Unable to bear the sight of his grandparents being treated like that, Victor decided to leave.

"Where are you going, Victor? Your mother's body will be buried soon, right?" asked Vasco, leaning against the door. "Are you going to leave without seeing your mother's face one last time?"

"Whether I see her or not, my mother will never live again," Victor replied coldly.

"Hey, that's rude. Are you taking out your anger on me when the one who refused to help your mother was Dad? Haha, you freak."

Victor didn't respond and left the funeral home. He didn't know where to go and just walked listlessly along the sidewalk. It felt so empty like he had no reason to exist when his mother was gone.

"Hey, kiddo!"

Victor turned around quickly, but suddenly, someone pulled his body into a small and quiet alley.

In front of Victor were three big tall guys with casual clothes and tattoos that showed they weren't nice.

"Who are you?" asked Victor with a wary face.

"I'll skip the introductions and get straight to the point. Pay your mother's debt!" said one of them.

"Debt?"

"Don't pretend you don't know. Your mother owes $65,000 to our casino, and we've come to collect."

Victor became tense. He knew his mother had been gambling heavily the last few months, but Victor didn't have that kind of money right now.

"My mom just passed away," Victor said, "I'm in the middle of her funeral arrangements."

"We know, and you think we care?"

Victor was surprised when one of the debt collectors hit the wall hard and threatened him.

"It would be great if you paid off your mother's debt before you get a taste of my punch."

"I will, but not now-ugh!"

"Your mom kept saying like that when she was alive, too!"

Victor felt like his stomach would burst when he received that hard punch. His face instantly turned red, and he curled up, clutching his stomach.

The man had no mercy despite Victor's pain. He pulled Victor's hair and punched him in the face until he fell.

Victor's head seemed to spin rapidly, and when he came to, there was blood from the corner of his lips.

"Seeing your face makes me think of that arrogant woman!"

Victor was forced to stand up only to receive multiple blows to his face and body.

Victor tried to protect himself, but he was helpless, the person beating him was more muscular, and he fell while coughing up blood.

"Hey, what are you doing? You want to kill him?" one of the debt collectors restrained the bald man's hand. "We were only told to collect the debt. Why did you beat him up like this? What if he dies?"

"Nothing will change even if he lives. His mother's debt still won't be paid off in the blink of an eye. You see, he's just a loser who can't even protect himself." The bald man kicked Victor in the stomach once more, even though Victor was already curled up on the ground. "And also, seeing his face so similar to that woman's makes me very pissed off. I should have made her suffer so much before she died!"

Victor opened his eyes, glancing at the man who beat him to death like this.

"Do you remember how she spoke to me that night? I won't forgive the humiliation she gave me even if she dies. It's a shame she died early when I should have killed her." Victor was annoyed, especially since the bald man, Mark, was getting more insulting. "Even though she is just a discarded wife. Even though her husband is Antonio Leighton, she was never considered in her family. The whole world knows that, and this useless child she gave birth to is no different from her! She shouldn't be so arrogant, with her position being even lower than the Leighton family's pet horse. What a trashy woman. If there's anything worthwhile about her, then it must be only her body."

Victor clenched his fists. He could not bear to hear his mother insulted, even though his mother was dead. With the remaining strength, Victor tried to stand up, unnoticed by Mark. He approached the bald man and punched him in the face just as he turned his head.

Mark was pushed back a few steps as Victor's punch hit him right in the nose, making the man's big nose bleed.

"Stop talking bad about my mom with that filthy mouth of yours, you crazy loan shark!" said Victor, his puffy eyes glaring at Mark.

"Damn it, that hurts, stupid. Are you bored of life?"

"Maybe, my life is shit, but it's not worse than the life of a man who talks down to women with his mouth like you!"

"I'll kill you, goddamn it!"

Mark ran towards Victor and immediately attacked Victor with punches and kicks, Victor tried to dodge, but he was already overwhelmed; he was again beaten until he was badly injured. Mark hit Victor in the head with a wooden block, and Victor immediately fell down with blood running down his face.

"Hey, Mark, stop it. You'll kill him!" interrupted Mark's friend, but Mark didn't care. "Do you intend to go to prison again?"

"Let me go back to prison. I think I miss it already," Mark retorted, "but at least I'll go back there after killing this arrogant kid. That way, I'll be going to jail with no regrets."

Mark approached the dying Victor. He took off his belt and draped it around Victor's neck, then tied it firmly - suffocating Victor. Victor immediately struggled to breathe. Even coughing was painful. He tried to break free but had no strength. Victor thought he would die soon, but a system panel appeared before him.

[Entering Emergency System]

Victor frowned, not knowing whether what he saw now was real or not. But the text soon changed.

[Welcome to the unlimited system. Complete the first task to open the user profile]

[Specify the intended purchase]

Victor thought he was probably on the verge of death and that he could hallucinate like this.

"A gun... I want a gun."

But he followed what was written on the system panel, and magically, it heard him. So this wasn't a hallucination?

"What? What are you saying? Don't talk too much because you're going to die anyway!"

[Showing results for 'gun']

[Press the image to make a purchase]

Victor reached out his hand, not to grab Mark, but to press the image of the gun he wanted so the system could process it. If this system panel he was looking at was real, then it might be of some help.

Victor pressed one of the images. He didn't choose because he didn't have time. He had to get a gun quickly to defeat Mark, so a $1,800 handgun was chosen.

[RING!]

[First purchase is successful]

Victor tried to hold on. A little more, and he would be dead. But suddenly, a gun appeared in his grasp, and he used the opportunity to shoot straight at Mark.

BANG!

"ARGH!"

The sound of the shot took everyone by surprise. Suddenly Victor had a gun, and he injured Mark's ear. The bald man recoiled in pain while his two friends looked dumbfounded and scared.

So they quickly pulled Mark away from the alley before Victor could shoot them, who were unarmed.

After Mark left, Victor could breathe again, but he already had no strength to stand up. He looked at the gun he was still holding, and what was happening to him was hard to explain with any sense of logic.

"What is this? Do I have superpower now?" asked Victor in a weak voice. Victor fainted, and soon some people found him after hearing gunshots.

He fell unconcious without being able to read the new notification on his system panel.

Violet slowly opened the door to the room with the overpowering medical odor. She took a quick glance inside, and now had a perfect view of the figure sitting on the thickly blanketed bed as she glanced out the large glass window. Seemingly lost in thought, he seemed calm and unconcerned about his surroundings. Even when Violet pulled out a chair and took a comfortable spot to sit next to him, Victor remained passive. Violet glanced at her man with a quizzical look, as if she wanted to start a conversation. After five days of unconsciousness, Victor finally opened his eyes this morning. Violet rushed to him to see how he was doing, but it seemed that only his physical state had improved. Violet ventured to touch Victor's hand, and to her surprise, Victor flinched. Violet couldn't help but be surprised by the man's response. "Violet...," Victor said in a low voice, he looked up at Violet but those eyes seemed to be empty without a focal point. "You were here, I didn't realize,"

Connor approached Emily, then looked at the little girl’s sleeping face while gently rubbing her slightly gaunt cheeks. “So... how did it go?” asked Connor, Jack flinched as he understood what the question meant. However, Jack chose to remain silent, making Connor smile because he suspected that his guess was correct. “Failed, yes...,” the old man said, smiling haughtily.“I won’t give up, Dad.” Jack said with conviction, making his father look down on him even more. “I’ll try until Emily gets her new heart.”“You’re pretty optimistic for a kid who just felt the pain of failure after not listening to his parents, Jack. Don’t you want to complain and complain to this father of yours?” Jack was silent, his jaw hardening as he held back his anger. He knew full well that all his father was doing now was mocking his failure, making Jack feel reminded of the pain when his high hopes ended in failure again.Indirectly, Connor seemed to be saying: "Expecting kindness from a monster like Victo

And when she didn’t get one, the girl chuckled. It made Victor stop eating and ask, “What’s wrong?”Violet looked at him with pouting lips. “You’re not going to compliment my cooking again this time?”“I already ate it.”“But at the very least, I want to hear your comet. You kept eating without saying anything.”“I already ate it, isn’t that clear evidence that I didn’t reject your food. At least the taste is still acceptable to the human tongue, hence why this human wants to

Violet opened her eyes and frowned. Her blurred vision clearly felt unfamiliar with the place where she opened her eyes, but no sooner had she paused and remembered, than Violet remembered where she was. Because of this, she hurriedly turned her body around to find Victor sleeping next to her. This was the second time Violet had woken up looking at Victor’s face to start her day. But the first time, Violet hadn’t been this close. She and Victor were like two poles far apart, but now they were like twigs and leaves that were always attached.Violet moved closer, wanting to see the details of the man’s face more closely. Jack was silent for a moment, at a loss for an answer. “I-I did it because I had no other choice. I wanted a child so badly-““Well, I see,” Verlaine said, interrupting Jack’s unfinished speech, “the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree,” he said with a quiet murmur.Verlaine then cleared his throat loudly, as if signaling he was about to begin his important conversation with Connor and Jack tonight.Connor began with, “As you told me on the phone that you would tell me about the next plan tonight. Tell me.”Verlaine raised both eyebrows. “Ouh... you’re so impatient, Mr. Grayson,” he said in a joking tone. “Is it because it’s late, so you don’t want to make small talk any longer?”“I brought Jack so you can use him for your plans too,” Connor replied, changing the subject.Verlaine raised one eyebrow, realizing that Connor was really impatient for the plan he had. “Well... I’ll say it,” Verlaine said then, no longer wanting to mince words. “In a few days, there will be a party held by

"Beautiful tuxedo," said the man with hazel eyes, to the short-haired woman standing in front of him. "When did you buy it?"Maria smiled broadly, pleased that the choice item she had bought for Verlaine had responded so well to the man. She rushed to her lover, sitting on Verlaine's lap intimately as she put her arms around his neck."I bought it a long time ago but since you've been so busy lately, it's been difficult for me to find the right time to give it to you," Maria said, explaining in more detail. Verlaine simply nodded and smiled, though his heart was still cold as ever. "Do you like it?" Maria's question drew Verlaine's gaze away from his gift. The man smiled sweetly, growing wider. "Of course," he replied, pecking her cheek gently.Maria was delighted. She then without hesitation kissed him briefly on the lips, showing her happiness. They looked at each other for a few seconds, until Maria spoke up again."Verlaine, what did you do during your vacation? That place yo
