004 - Overwhelming Adams

How did twenty million dollars manage to find their way to his statement? Astonished, Adams didn't bother to think too much about it as he quickly rushed into his meals.

Within three minutes, he emptied the plates, and a minute later, he dressed up in his clothes, ready to experiment with the authenticity of the money.

He hopped through different wards until he got to the chief doctor's office; the doctor then directed him to the hospital's financial department, where he'd make the payment.

Each passing patient couldn't help but turn around and look twice at the grown man with smooth, silk-like, shining black hair.

Tall with broad shoulders and straight legs. Perfect, handsome, chiseled face with a straight nose, an average-sized mouth, and a pearl-shaped eye.

His sandy-colored skin tone matches his cool temperament, but his faded clothes and torn boots almost kill the vibes of the guy in every lady's dreams emanating from him.

Adams got to the financial department, where he was to pay the bills. He brings out his wallet; lucky for him, his bank card is in there. He pulled it out and handed it over to the middle-aged man who was sitting in front of the enormous desk in the office, alongside the bill outline.

Checking through his computer system, the middle-aged man nodded. He inserts Adams' cards into an automated machine and then turns the machine to face him.

“Type in your password,” he requested, and with shaky hands, Adams entered his PIN, and the processing completed within seconds, approving the transaction.

His joy knew no boundaries as he received a debit alert on his phone. 'Miracles sure do exist,' Adams thought as he sauntered out of the hospital. The smile plastered on his face was exceptionally bright.

Adams Smith decides he won't squander this money. He needed to create rules and wasn't even interested in knowing where and how the money got to His bank account. All he knew was that he'd meet his demise if he didn't use up the money in the next five days. Ridiculous, but he believes it.

The first item on Adams' set agenda is to return home to get his things. He wasn't going to care too much about the rent fee after all; he had enough money to buy himself an outstanding condominium, and then... the thought of his next plan brought a smirk to his handsome face.

Adams didn't bother boarding a cab or bus; he walked to the 45th-floor building and took the elevator to the thirtieth-floor. His smile never vanished as he exuded a mysterious, powerful, and imposing aura that had never existed before.

This caught a lot of attention from the people in the same living area. They were expecting to see a heartbroken guy to whom they would say words of consolation.

Adams didn't bother about his ex-fiancee and her boyfriend as he got into his home. He went straight to the shelf and took out a notebook and a pen. He plummets himself onto the only couch there and begins writing.

Rule number one: Never speak too much. Only reply with one word, such as hmmm, yes, uh, uh yeah.

Rule number two: Invest wisely. Never waste money on any luxury. Make more money before comfort.

Rule number three: Be ruthless, and cold-hearted, but kind. Never smile too much. Smile, but only wicked smiles and smirks.

Rule number four: no forgiveness, no second chance. Change your wardrobe and look sexy and charming. No flirting, just seduction. Buy a car, make them jealous, and fill them with regrets.

Rule number five: most important: No woman, no lover, only flings and baby mamas.

Rule number six: Adams paused with raised brows and decided these were okay for now.

He will add others at the right time. Adams tore out the pages on which he had written the rules and proceeded to fold the paper. He stands up from the couch and sits back again.

Adams took the pen he had dropped and skillfully began writing. Not long after, he had finished what he was writing and then tore out the pages yet again. He sauntered to the shelf and put back the items he had taken.

"Adams Smith, you look much better than I expected you to. I was waiting for you to come and beg my baby to take you back," Evans mocked.

Evans and Samantha were both cuddling on the cushion as he played with her hair. She will giggle at his playful act, all to irk Adams. But seeing that he was unaffected, Evans decided to taunt him with words.

Instead of a displeased grunt, all he received was a sneer and a chuckle from Adams.

"Hmm," Adams responded, and he wordlessly strode to the bedroom. He took out important things from his wardrobe and placed them in a small backpack.

Striding toward the flabbergasted couple, Adams threw a folder at Evans, and he said,

"In there is my resignation letter, Mr. Evans George. You are no longer my boss but the boyfriend of my ex. Pathetic!"

Instantly, both Evans and Samantha became enraged. They both rose from the cushion with ugly expressions.

"Do you think any boss in his right state of mind would want to hire a crazy person like you? How dare you disrespect Evans by throwing your resignation letter at him? I knew it. You are nothing but a crazy psycho and bad luck,"

Samantha yells at the top of her voice as she points her index finger at him.

"Forget it, baby; do not yell or stress; the fool will come begging on his knees once he realizes his mistakes. He is only being egoistic to cover his sorrow-filled heart. I'll make him lick yours and my shoe sole when he crawls back to us."

Evans consoles Samantha with his eyebrows raised cockily.

"Miss Samantha Salvador, I'd like to inform you that I won't be needing an employer. But you might want to become my employee, or won't you?" He asks, a playful smirk plastering his handsome face.

He turned to Evans and muttered. “Mr. Evans George, your newest business rival, is something you might want to watch out for.”

His loop-side smile never withers away, as Adams left the room, leaving them dumbstruck.

They stepped out.Waiting for them were thousands of people, arranged in vast, deliberate arcs around the field. Every one of them dark-skinned, their features varied yet unified by bearing alone, upright, composed, and watchful.Their garments were not ceremonial excess like the Convergence performers’, but elegant and restrained, woven with symbols that showed faintly in rhythm with the city itself.Erica slowed unconsciously. “They’re all just… watching.”“They are witnessing,” Ogodo corrected. “This is not a performance.”A path opened through the crowd without a word being spoken. At its end stood a woman. She wore no crown, yet authority radiated from her as tangibly as gravity. The wave of null slowed before it reached the castle. It washed across the Central Field like a held breath, cold but controlled, stripping nothing permanent, breaking no anchors. The castle flickered once more… then stabilized, its white glow reasserting itself with quiet defiance.Baxter exhaled sharply. “So… are we about to die or, ”“No,” Ogodo said, almost amused. “Nothing will happen.”She folded her hands behind her back, watching the sky as though this were a familiar sport. “This is not war in your sense. It is a ritual conflict. A game of dominance.”Below them, the panic dissolved into something else… Anticipation. Platforms around the field lit up with cascading sigils. Probability grids flared into existence. Entire sections of the city began projecting shifting numbers, odds recalculating in real time.Lorenzo frowned. “Are those… wagers?”“Yes,” Ogodo replied. “Some people gamble big. Prestige. Resources. Future favors. Even territories.” She glanced at the Star-Eater,

Ogodo led them deeper into Kogi, the streets subtly rearranged themselves, pathways widening, lights softening, colors shifting into warm, iridescent hues. Towers bent ever so slightly, like elegant giants bowing in acknowledgment. Soft harmonic tones rippled through the air, a melodic resonance that seemed tuned to their heartbeats.“Are the buildings… reacting to us?” Erica whispered.“Yes,” Ogodo replied serenely. “Kogi recognizes distinction. The city adjusts itself to honor guests of high value.”Before any of them could respond, a procession emerged from the central boulevard. Figures clad in flowing, luminescent garments approached, men and women adorned with crystalline threads that pulsed gently with light. Floating drones hovered above them, projecting delicate symbols that shimmered like constellations. One stepped forward and bowed deeply.“Honored Ones,” the figure said, voice layered with a soft echo, “Kogi welcomes you.”With a graceful wave of his hand, garments mat

The air vibrated faintly, as if the city itself was alive and breathing.“This… this is insane,” Baxter muttered, eyes wide as he stumbled slightly on the smooth ground. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”“Insane doesn’t even begin to cover it,” Lorenzo added, brushing ash off his shoulders while craning his neck.“It’s… advanced. Way more advanced than anything back home.”A figure appeared suddenly, walking toward them from a path lined with gleaming towers. She was human, tall, and black, her posture confident yet welcoming. Her eyes held a quiet curiosity, scanning them as she approached.“Greetings,

He felt guilty immediately. It hit him like a physical blow. His chest tightened, breath breaking as the reality of what he’d done caught up all at once.He cried, quiet at first, then harder, and wrapped his arms around Adams, holding him as if letting go would shatter them both.“I’m here,” he choked out, burying his face into Adams’s shoulder. “I’m here.”Adams didn’t pull away. He held him back just as tightly, one hand gripping the back of his jacket, the other pressed flat between his shoulder blades. The world trembled around them, metal groaning, alarms screaming, but for a heartbeat, that was all that existed.“Four minutes, fifty seconds!” Erica shouted over the noise.A concussive blast tore through the chamber as Erica fired again, sparks exploding from the exposed motherboard. The final barrier gave way with a shriek of tortured metal. You are not meant to become any king. Believe it or not, you won't survive the next thirty minutes in this place even if everyone is to die. You'd also be eliminated dddd”Aleric staggered back as the memories surged around him but none of them stuck. They played like fleeting fragments.Just like they had for Baxter and Lorenzo until they finally broke through. He clutched his head, breath ragged, eyes darting through collapsing fragments of a life that refused to assemble into something whole.“I…” His voice cracked. “I don’t remember that.
