Chapter 5

Calvin POV

The sun was rising slowly over the desert, but inside Sakhir’s territory, it was always dark. The cave was huge, built deep into the rocks with long tunnels, weapons stacked on wooden crates, and dozens of men walking around with rifles. Every corner of the place reeked of sweat, oil, and blood. The sound of men shouting in Arabic filled the air, the smell of gunpowder mixed with smoke from burning torches.

Sakhir’s cave wasn’t an ordinary hideout; it was more like a base, a place where monsters trained to kill. There were trucks parked near the entrance, heavy machine guns mounted on them, and cages lined against the wall. Each cage had people inside, weak, starving, and scared.

I woke up in one of the small corners, my head throbbing with pain. The moment I tried to move, I felt the cold metal of a gun barrel pressing against the side of my skull. The guard barked something in Arabic I couldn’t understand, then kicked me in the ribs, forcing me to stay down. My head was still bleeding where Sakhir had hit me earlier, and the pain made my vision blur.

The place looked familiar. The smell, the dirt, the sound of Arabic voices, it all triggered flashes in my mind. Then, suddenly, it came back like a wave hitting the shore. My memories. The things I’d lost after the accident.

I saw my father, Kaelor Thane very strong, confident, and proud. I remembered how he used to train me every Saturday morning in the garden behind the White House. He’d always say, “A leader never bends to fear. A soldier never runs from pain.” I could still see his eyes, full of determination and power.

Then I saw my twin brother, Forger again, looking quiet, weak, always hiding behind me. He hated combat training. He was too soft, but I always protected him. I saw my mother, Shawn, smiling as she handed us breakfast, and my father’s second wife, Theresa, standing beside her, both women strong in their own ways. I remembered their laughter, the smell of home, and the day it all turned to ashes.

There was an explosion. The terrorists invaded the White House. Gunfire everywhere. My father was poisoned. My mother screamed. Forger was dragged away. I was too young to fight back. Then, darkness.

My breathing got heavy as I sat up. Everything started to make sense now. The accident that almost killed me, the coma, the scars, Sakhir and his men had planned it all. They destroyed my family, took everything from me, and thought they had erased the God of War lineage. But I was still alive. And now that my memories had returned, I knew exactly who I was and what I would do to them.

“Move!” one of the guards shouted and kicked me again.

They dragged me across the rocky floor, my hands tied behind my back. I saw James, Hendrick, Felix, and Maximus — my spy soldiers, tied up near the wall. Their faces were bruised, but they were alive. They tried not to look at me, afraid to show recognition in front of the terrorists.

Sakhir stood near the center of the cave. His tall, broad body was covered with a black robe, a long rifle hanging by his shoulder. His face was partially visible under the scarf burned on one side, his eyes filled with hatred and pride. He was surrounded by dozens of men chanting in Arabic, clapping their rifles like they were in some kind of ceremony.

Sakhir smirked when he saw me. “The great American hero,” he said in broken English, “the man they call General Calvin Luthor, the one who kills hundreds of my men. Look at you now, on your knees.”

He laughed, and the others laughed too.

I stayed silent, staring at him. My mind was working fast, trying to figure out how to escape.

He walked closer to me, his boots crushing the sand under his feet. “You have caused me too much trouble, Calvin. Too much death. But now…” He pointed his gun at my head. “…you will beg to live.”

James tried to speak. “Don’t touch him.”

Before he could finish, Sakhir turned and fired at the ground near James’ feet. The bullet sparked off the rock. “You speak again, I blow your head,” he growled.

Sakhir looked back at me and grinned. “I have a little game for you, General.”

He waved his hand, and two guards dragged out several people from another part of the cave. When I saw them, my breath stopped. My stomach twisted. My chest burned like fire.

My wife. My twin brother Forger. My mother Shawn. And my father’s other wife, Theresa.

They were alive, but barely. Their bodies were thin, their clothes torn, their faces pale. My wife looked at the ground, trembling. Forger’s eyes were dull, his body weak. My mothers looked too tired to stand.

None of them recognized me. Of course, they wouldn’t. I had gone through a full facial reconstruction after the accident. My face, my voice, everything had changed. To them, I was just another soldier. But to me, they were the pieces of my broken soul.

I clenched my fists behind my back, my nails digging into my skin. I wanted to scream their names, to tell them who I was, but that would put them in even greater danger.

Sakhir grinned again. “You see these people?” he said mockingly. “They are nothing but worms to me. But they mean something to you, don’t they?”

I didn’t answer.

He motioned to one of his men, who brought forward a wooden stool and placed it in front of him. Sakhir sat down, then lifted his robe, showing a large wound on his leg. It was rotting, full of pus, with maggots crawling out of it. The smell made my stomach twist.

He pointed at the wound with the barrel of his gun. “You will lick it,” he said. “You will lick my wound clean, and you will bow down before me, or…” He looked at my wife and my family and smiled coldly. “…I will kill them one by one.”

James shouted, “Don’t do it, sir! He’s bluffing!”

Sakhir turned and hit James across the face with his rifle. “Quiet!”

I looked at the disgusting wound again. The smell of rot and death filled my nose. I could see the maggots moving. My mind burned with anger.

“You have five seconds,” Sakhir said. “If you don’t obey, they die.”

He started counting, his voice echoing through the cave. “One… two… three…”

Forger, my brother, lifted his head weakly. He looked at me, not knowing who I was, but there was something in his eyes a small spark of recognition. Maybe some part of him still felt our bond. My wife’s eyes filled with tears, and my mothers held each other tightly, praying silently.

Sakhir grinned. “Four… five…”

He lowered the gun toward them. “So, what is your choice, General? Do you lick my wound and live, or do they die because of your pride?”

I slowly raised my head and looked him straight in the eye. “You think you can break me?” I said quietly.

He leaned forward. “I don’t think. I know.”

I smiled — cold and slow. “You don’t know me.”

He frowned. “What?”

“I said,” I repeated, my voice stronger now, “you don’t know me. You don’t know what I’ve lost. You don’t know what pain is. You can kill me, torture me, or bury me alive — but I will never bow to you.”

The men around us started shouting in Arabic again. Some laughed, others cheered for Sakhir to kill me. The sound grew louder, echoing through the cave.

Sakhir stood up, angry now. “You dare talk to me like that?”

I looked at him with fire in my eyes. “I would rather die than lick your disgusting wound or bow down to a coward like you.”

His face twisted in rage. “You fool!” he screamed.

He turned his gun toward the civilians behind him, my family — and without hesitation, he pulled the trigger.

The gunshot echoed through the cave, loud and sharp. A woman screamed. I tried to turn around to see who had been hit, but before I could, one of the guards smashed the back of his gun against my head.

Pain exploded through my skull. The world went dark again. I fell face-first to the ground, blood dripping from my temple.

As everythi

ng faded away, I could still hear Sakhir laughing, his voice echoing through the darkness.
