Chapter Ten: Cold Plans

An hour later, Margaret's eyelids fluttered open, her eyes drifting across the lounge. She saw her brother sitting beside her, his legs crossed and arms spread on the backrest. Jane and Brandon were nowhere to be found, so she figured out he'd sent them on important errands.

“You're finally awake, Little Sis,” Jack said, glancing at his gold Rolex wristwatch.

“I'm sorry,” she said, sitting up. “I felt sleepy… I didn't know when I slept off.”

“There's no problem with that,” he said. “You can sleep as long as you want.”

Margaret smiled and rubbed her eyes, saying, “You seemed to be in a hurry earlier.”

“Huh? Me?” He raised an eyebrow, wondering what she was talking about. Or was she still awake back then…?

“Yes, I saw you,” she said. “You wanted to head out, but changed your mind.”

“Oh,” Jack laughed, scratching the back of his head. “It's actually nothing…”

“Jack,” she frowned, crossing her hands. “If you won't tell me the secret about your wealth, at least be honest about this.”

“Well,” he stood up slowly, his hands in his pockets. “Remember the good news I shared with you earlier?”

“Yes, I do,” Margaret replied, her expression serious. “I remember you buying a mansion, just today.”

“Well, I wanted to go check it out,” Jack lied. “You know, if it's up to my taste…”

He laughed nervously afterward, hoping his sister would buy the story. He couldn't tell her that he wanted to buy Winston's Night Garden… It’d complicate things and make her panic. He didn't trust himself to keep a secret under pressure, especially when his only family member was involved.

His heart throbbed, his smile frozen on his face as he awaited Margaret's response. A few moments later, the young girl sighed, replying, “Alright, then.”

‘Eh? Just that?’ Jack thought, his eyebrows raised at her. He'd expected her to at least probe for a few seconds.

“Can I come?” She asked, her eyes blinking at him.

“Huh?” Jack laughed. “Of course! You don't need to ask, Little Sis!”

“How much did you buy for the mansion?” Margaret asked, her eyes narrowed.

“Ugh…” His breath hitched, his voice breaking. “I… actually bought it…”

“Right,” she replied, a warm smile etched on her face. “It's a deep secret I shouldn't ask.”

‘This is on you, Trillionaire System!’ Jack glared inwardly, berating the Trillionaire System.

Jack's cellphone rang two seconds later. He pulled it out of his pocket and stared at the screen. The call ID displayed Jane Foyers.

“Hello,” he said in a calm voice, stealing a glance at Margaret. Then, he walked some meters away from her.

“Hello, Sir,” Jane’s voice sounded from the other end.

“Any update?” He asked.

“Yes, Sir,” she told him. “All plans to purchase the Night Garden have been made. A word from you and the deal would go down.”

Jack nodded slowly, impressed with her. Again, he felt that he had made a great choice in employing her. Without her, even though he was intelligent, he wouldn't have come this far. In this journey of dominance and revenge, he had to crush all his enemies.

“That's good,” he eventually replied. “Continue to monitor him, Jane. Do not let him out of your sight.”

“Yes, Sir,” she replied. “There's another update as well.”

“Another update?” He asked, his eyebrows raised in curiosity. “Shoot.”

“Winston has refused to evacuate the mansion,” she replied, her voice assuming a cold undertone. “Should we dispose of him?”

“Hmm,” Jack thought deeply, placing his free hand underneath his chin.

“Just one word and he's dead,” Jane informed him. “I've already planted an assassin to watch over him.”

He clicked his tongue, a cold smile playing out on his face. “If we kill him, that'd be merciful… wouldn't it? I mean, after everything's he's done…”

“So, we shouldn't eliminate him?” His personal assistant asked, curiosity etched in her voice.

“No,” Jack answered, his eyes narrowing coldly. “I have plans for him, Jane… to break and totally crush him.”

He paused, tilting his head to steal a glance at Margaret. She was now standing close to the window, gazing outside. She wasn't paying attention to the conversation, making him relieved.

“Return to the lounge,” he said afterward. “We'll head to the mansion together.”

“Okay, Sir,” Jane replied. “I'll do just as you said.”

“Also…” Jack snapped his fingers, his eyebrows creased. “I want you to involve the press and police.”

“Huh?” His personal assistant seemed genuinely confused this time. Her tone betrayed her understanding of the situation.

“I understand the need for you to involve the police,” she began. “I mean, you'd want the law involved to evict him from your acquired property…”

Her voice broke, trembled, and then steadied, “But, I do not understand you involving the press. You do not want publicity now…”

“And why's that?” Jack asked, his expression turning serious.

“Because, I believe you've not yet cemented your image,” Jane replied. “You do not have many allies… So, doing this would make you an easy target.”

“In other words, I'm not powerful enough to withstand publicity?” Jack asked, a strange glint appearing in his eyes.

“Sadly, that's the truth,” she replied.

Jack chuckled, then clicked his tongue. He tugged at his black vest with his free hand, replying, “You don't have to worry about that, Jane. I wouldn't have this much confidence if there were no trump card.”

That trump card was the Trillionaire System. With it, Jack believed he could amass so much wealth to become powerful enough.

“So, just do as I said,” he concluded and then ended the call. Tilting his head back, he called out to Margaret.

“Yes?” She replied, spinning around.

“It's time to head out,” he said, a warm smile spread across his face.

“Really?!” Margaret jumped in excitement. “Then, let's go!”

She forgot about his suspicions about his source of income and ran toward him. Together, they walked toward the elevator, headed to the mansion.

“Let's go home,” he added, his smile turning colder.

He had plans for Winston… several plans to wish he had never been born.

Jack stood outside the interrogation chamber of the safehouse, his arms folded. Flanking him were Brandon and Jane, their expressions as neutral as ever. One couldn't even tell what was on their mind, even after someone tried assassinating their boss. Fredrick and Brian stood behind the trio in silence, wondering what was really going on. There was a heavy silence in the room, lasting for several minutes. No one said anything and either drowned in their thoughts or stared at the two traitors in the interrogation chamber. They were strapped to metallic chairs, unable to move an inch. Their eyes were fixated on Jack, defiance written across their faces. “We won't tell you anything!” They gritted their teeth and clenched their fists. “We'd rather die than reveal anything!” “Is that so?” Jack seemed amused, shaking his head slowly. The two men exchanged glances, a lump in their throats. They'd heard about the Master and how he interrogated his enemies. Somehow, he didn't torture them,
