I have a request of mine too, Elle continued.

"A request?" Lex thought to himself, "what could it possibly be?"

'Ask on, your highness," Lex spoke as he stole a glance of the noble's daughter; she was even more perfect than he had described in the story, she seemed stunned as she also got a clear look of his face.

Elle then cleared her throat as she spoke, "I would like you to join the ongoing lower hand quest in the city of Greyl."

Lex's face went blank; that was the least of his expectations.

The noble's daughter had just indirectly asked him on what he would have called an earthly date, but through strenuous and dangerous means.

The lower hand quest was a quest which could be tried by every man in the city or even beyond the city of Greyl, whether with the ability of a knight or not; that included servants like Lex.

The competition involved going on various raids to dangerous dungeons and surviving in each; after the last raid, which would be the most dangerous, each of the knights would be given new ranks.

Knights are normally ranked this way: Beginner knight, Adept knight, Expert knight, Master knight, High level knight. There were more ranks but could only be found in the realms of the higher nobles.

The highest level an ordinary knight has ever reached is the expert level.

After the surviving knights are ranked, they'll proceed to fight a gifted high-level knight; the one amongst them with the maximum lasting time would be referred to as the winner.

The winner would be given many rewards, which also included getting married to the noble's daughter.

Lex blinked twice as he resorted in bowing again.

"Your wish is my command, your highness."

"Very well then, Lex, I'll see you after the Next raid," Lex bowed lower then dispersed from the scene.

Lex was once again escorted by the green armoured Knight, but this time he didn't pull him; instead, they both walked freely back to the dungeons.

Lex was slightly confused as to why the knight had become somewhat nicer, on arriving at his cell, Lex slowly sank into the cemented ground, his back slightly aching.

Tomorrow's the day, he thought to himself excitedly; he then sat up as he peered towards the other cell just opposite where he stood.

"I never thought you'll cheat so quickly," Kate said as she rested back on the prison bars.

"What? C-Cheat," Lex spoke startled, Kate then pointed her finger towards her ear, "I have a special ability, I heard all that happened in the library."

"You did? That's an impressive skill," Lex regained his composure as he peered back at Kate, who now smiled, while gazing at her sharp nails.

The special ability she had said earlier was probably her innate skill she had gone deep into the cell to activate it.

Kate then continued, "Thanks for letting me join the dungeon raid tomorrow," of course" answered Lex.

He wondered if he should tell her the reason he accepted the lower hand quest. He had no interest in the noble's daughter. Falling in love with a human was less exciting than with a demon, beast kin or an elf.

But that wasn't necessary; after all, she knew he was a slave, and there was no possible way a slave could become the lower hand knight of a noble.

He only accepted so he could join the dungeon raids and get a change of occupation.

The timeline in dungeons are different from that of Aetheria, only when the dungeon is high-ranked.

For most lower-ranked dungeons.

one day in the dungeon, would be equal to one day on Aetheria.

Lex's eyes slowly opened as the prison bell continuously rang; it was 3:00 AM in the morning.

He laid on the ground stretching, wondered how sad old Charlie and mama Rina would have been when they found out what happened to him. He went ahead to stand.

"System, are you there?"

The shrill voice of the system then responded:

{Yes host}

{The occupation change quest is till ongoing}

{6 days 12 hours and 38 minutes till deadline}

{Number of monsters killed; 0}

Lex smiled at the translucent screen just ahead of him; now he was absolutely certain all that occurred yesterday wasn't just a dream.

He gazed around the cell; the chains that were tied to the cell bars had already been removed, he shrugged.

"A slave doesn't get food or a bath either."

"Kate?"

Ready for today?" Kate spoke confidently walking out of shadows of her cell, Lex was bemused by the arousing figure who stood just right outside of the iron railings.

"Meals and bathing aren't for people who should get executed; only count on it if we're out of these bars by the end of today."

Lex nodded, staring instinctively at her chest area; Kate then muttered under her breath, "pervert."

"I take it back," she snuffed, "you're no different from the others."

They both strutted out of the cells, side by side, along with the other prisoners.

Lex stood firmly on the dusty ground along with the other prisoners, Kate included, it had been two hours since they left the prison, they were now far away from the city on a hill referred to as Scallfell Pike; each of them were given various weapons, such as axes, swords, and spears, along with huge sacks.

Lex held two swords in his hands; one was his, and the other was for Kate, who didn't accept hers.

Standing right at their front was the servant overseer Nox.

He wore a long white robe, a staff held in his hands as he peered at each of the prisoners.

He pointed towards a wide hole, which was a few centimeters from where they stood.

"That hole is infested with low-rank magic beasts; your job is to fill each of your bags with the precious stones within."

"If you succeed in filling your sack, a rope would be let down, and you would return as a resource miner."

"If you don't, you'll remain there till you do."

"Alright then, you may proceed

into the hole."

"Wait!" A masculine voice called from behind.

It was Dane, the green armoured knight.

    Lex sank deep into the ocean. The fall had been long, and he couldn't stop the momentum. He hadn’t held any breath earlier, and he was sure this wasn't going to end well. Blood spilled from the wounds on his back, and the poison in his legs had begun to spread. Lex knew that even if he somehow found a way to survive the first part of the quest,there was no way he could survive outside not while he was a useless slave. So Lex accepted his fate and embraced the cold of the dark ocean. His eyes closed as he recalled memories from his past life, how he had been absolutely average. He hadn’t expected anything from life, and life hadn’t given him anything without a bargain. So, was he going to go now?He was okay with it.{Ding!}The sound rattled in Lex's ears. With his eyes closed, he raised a brow, curious about what the system wanted from him."Hey system? Can't you see I’m trying to die here? Stop with the dinging."'I have accepted my fate. The grip from the skeleton bird was tight. His eyes locked on the space in the ground were land had appeared. This was his chance and he wasn't going to miss it. Vines lunged upwards, twisting together like veins. Curling in the patterns in which lex had directed each of them. On getting close to his location, a loud screeched echoed from the skeleton bird. it was attacked by another bird of it's kind. Lex ignored that fact and simply focused on the vines he controlled. As the bird pulled him farther into the air. The harder it was to control the vines upwards. Soon enough he lost the control of the vines because it was simply to far away. The skeleton bird was not taking any chance on yeilding to the other bird that also wanted him as food. Lex reached for the dagger that was tucked at his side, stretching his arms with all of his strength. He pressed on. His fingers curling around it. And then with two fingers he gripped the handle. Lex tossed it up catching it and holding it fir

  • Vine control

    Lex hastened his steps, each thud taking him as far as he could go. They were no longer just faint mana signatures anymore. The beasts had emerged from the bushes and were gaining on him at a frightening speed. But Lex ignored the fact that he could die at any moment and kept his focus on one thing. The quest. He still had to find the magic stones, and from the fact that the mages who created the portals had hurriedly sent him into a dungeon without preparation, it likely meant that the stones were not hidden but were placed in open sight. All he had to do was keep his eyes open and survive. Lex felt a mana-imbued strike coming from the left at full speed. He slipped, tripping on the snow in a very disgraceful manner, summoning his spell while in motion and materializing a vine ball that could shield whatever strike it was. The vines immediately enveloped him, but the force behind the strike was simply too strong and too sharp. It pierced through the ball like a blade. Le

  • Survive!

    Clank! The sound of a beginner Knight's shield met a mana condensed arrow. But the raw power from the shot was enough to Parry and stop the hit completely. Back in noble barristan's arena, the crowd erupted in satisfaction as they were entertained with the pure massacre of the lower hand quest. "That's another brutal parry from mandarin!" The commentator yelled with glee as he watched Mandarin obstruct the strike at the last moment saving a total stranger. She continued with charisma, lifting the amusement of the crowd. One mage stood in the top balcony of the arena, channeling Mana from his palm and creating a wide divided screen view of each of the lower hand quest battles for the crowd to see. The screen floated in the middle of the arena, flicking every five minutes as it wasn't meant to be handled by one mage alone. Noble barristan sat at the royalty section of the arena, his gaze cold, absolutely devoid of any emotion of the sort. Many nobles had gathered here today, in

    The six eyes of the hydra instinctively snapped open, on sensing the imminent danger. Lex stood right at the entrance of the cave, fazed. His trembling hands clenched as he fell into resolve, he was going to take down this beast because that was the only way to survive. Vines materialized from the ground, surrounding him firmly, in a curved posture focused on the hydra right before lex. Lex had long awaited a response, right from the moment the hydra should have sensed Mana circulating through his body. He didn't mind. Neither did he care. Maybe thunder could indeed strike in two places at once. He wondered to himself. Lex took a stance and was ready to release the all out vine attack, but in a split second, the hydra had managed to send a strike at him, the strike was so powerful it sent him flying backwards various meters away and yet so fast, he was absolutely caught unawares. The hit was a shock to lex, he hadn't had time to prepare, neither was there a possible way for him t

  • The hydra

    Lex let out a ragged breath and a weak shake, he'd been in the barely fitting hole for a couple of minutes now and the cold had began sinking into his very being. He had to leave really quick, not only because of the cold, but because of the lower hand quest itself, they hadn't been given any time frame and he was absolutely certain that sooner or later the ones with the magic stones would be transferred to the next round.For now, he had to find the magic stones and hold on to it, that was the most reasonable way to get out of this dungeon, it's not often a servant like him gets this opportunity. He retracted the spell. The vines immediately vanished. he was welcomed by the more intense cold of the dungeon.Compared to this, inside the vine ball was even warmer. He stood up on his feet, senses alert, eyes darting, this dungeon was even more dangerous than he has anticipated and he was going to take it more seriously from henceforth. Lex decided to check out the wolf and bear that had
