Dorian approached the last shop on the street his home was located in and he checked his reflection in the shop's glass fitting as he passed.

Maybe part of the reason he kept on getting rejected was because of the blood stains still on him, and maybe he shouldn’t have started searching for a job immediately, but the timer was ticking and he had searched for the effects of liver loss on his way here.

The system had assured him that nothing about the procedure of removing his liver would be painless or quick, and for some reason, he wholeheartedly believed the devil system.

A job was a job, right? He didn’t have to get any major one just yet. What if the system turned out to be a flop and he failed there too?

He wouldn’t be able to handle the surge of emotions that would come next.

Instead, he had decided on this. He would get an easy job he knew nothing about. So far he had applied at a bakery, a tannery, and now he was here, a pizza shop.

He didn’t know how to make pizza, but he could try and see what came out of this.

The minute Dorian stepped in through the doors of the pizzeria he locked eyes with a big burly man.

The man had olive skin, a slightly thick mustache, and a cold look in his eyes. Dorian took a step back instinctively because maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. He could always find a job tomorrow, right?

[TIMER: 18: 27: 25]

Dorian cursed under his breath. He had spent over five hours searching for a job to no avail.

“Is there something you want, boy?”

Boy?

Dorian straightened his stance and met the cold eyes of the larger man in front of him.

“I want a job.”

Those words sounded way cooler in his head but he wasn’t a boy. He was a man. The larger man’s frown was intimidating though, just a bit. The man gave him the once over.

“You want a job dressed like that?”

“It’s a costume thing” If only “I won’t ever show up like this for work officially. I’d just like to secure a job today. I saw the vacancy notice outside. I’m a hard worker.”

Despite the frown on the older man’s face not lessening he asked a question that made some ray of hope appear.

“Can you resume at 7 and work for 10-11 hours?”

That… was a stretch from normal but he could do it.

“Sure.”

The man nodded and pointed to the door.

“You’re hired. Get out. Don’t bother coming if you’re going to come late.”

The system’s lifelike glass screen appeared a few feet away from him again and Dorian felt happiness filling his heart. Of course, this would end up bad if he couldn’t do anything when he resumed tomorrow. He had never worked in a pizza shop in his life and his cooking skills were shit.

[DO YOU ACCEPT THE JOB OFFER?]

The screen was blinking and Dorian nodded subtly. The glass screen glowed a bright gold and a new message was displayed.

Dorian resisted the urge to scoff and roll his eyes.

“Are you sure you want to keep your job boy?”

Dorian’s eyes snapped to the man now glaring at him and he nodded. The man’s scowl deepened further.

“Then obey my instructions and get out.”

The urge to flip his new boss the middle finger overcame Dorian so unexpectedly that he almost did it.

He would have done it if the large almost 5ft glass screen didn’t appear in front of him again and flashed a very malevolent-looking red light in his face.

A message appeared.

[DOES HOST HAVE ANY PLANS OF DYING SOON? BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF HOST FLIPS HIS NEW BOSS THE MIDDLE FINGER.]

A chill raced down Dorian’s spine and he exited the shop before he either lost his job or this psycho system ended his life.

~Glad to see we’re on the same page Mr Flint.~

Dorian flipped his system the middle finger instead and headed home.

Once in his small cheap apartment, he bathed, changed, tied the bloody clothes in a bag, and threw them into the trash fire his neighbors cultivated like a pet. The thing was almost smoking his room and making him cough heavily at night.

His eyes also watered from the smoke but the last time he had complained, he was told to either deal with it or move out.

Dorian scoffed lightly as he remembered that.

At least the trash fire came in handy for once.

Once on his bed, he rested up and asked the system a question.

“Are there some other penalties I need to know about?”

The system promptly responded with a message displayed on the floating 5ft screen.

[LATENESS TO WORK.

PENALTY: DEATH!]

Good to know.

“I’ll go to sleep now.”

~At 7 pm? Isn’t that too early? You could always check out your taskboard. You have over a hundred pending tasks you can take on to level up.~

Dorian chuckled “So I can get 0.00001 intelligence points? I’d rather sleep.”

The system grumbled something incoherent about the puny human not knowing the magnificence of its power but Dorian simply drifted off to sleep.

By nine he would have to dress up and attend a family dinner at his father’s mansion. Family dinners were never good, but he’d pull through.

Tomorrow awaited new possibilities.

**************** Eight hours later.

The screen was blinking like crazy!

The red glare was like an urgent reminder in Dorian’s mind that his life was on the line. He had barely five minutes to get to the pizza shop and he was still a few blocks away.

Running as fast as he could wasn’t doing much to help him, and while he had some speed to him, the world seemed determined to see him die.

Dorian’s eyes widened as he saw his girlfriend and her friends just a few feet away from the pizza shop.

Amelia never ceased to make his heart falter when he saw her and the smile she had on her face was radiant today. She was holding a few shopping bags and the sun was hitting her full-on. He had to avoid her if he wanted to live, so maybe if he could dash into the pizza shop without her seeing him…

“Dorian?”

Dorian froze like a statue encased in ice. Shit.

“Dorian?” Amelia sounded curious and her eyes darted around nervously. She smiled lightly when she saw him “What are you doing here? Aren’t you meant to be at work?”

The door was so close. Life was so close.

“I am at work. I work here now.”

Whatever the reaction was in Amelia’s eyes, he didn’t get the chance to see it. He only heard her friend’s mocking snickers, gave a hurried salute to them, and closed the remaining distance between him and the pizza shop.

“Thanks.” Dorian appreciated one of the maids who happened to hear them, and opened the door.He walked out with Rayah, Mr. Grayson’s daughter, to the sitting room where Mr. Grayson was waiting.“I almost thought you changed your mind and left.” Mr. Grayson chuckled, and stood up. “You should get someone to fix that door.” He instructed one of the maids. He had been informed that Dorian hadn’t left, but was trapped in the basement with his daughter.“Alright, let’s leave.” Mr. Grayson urged, and then Dorian followed after. They got to the car, and Dorian sat at the driver’s seat, while Mr. Grayson sat back at the backseat.“If you don’t know the way to Grayson Tech Company, then you can use the map, Dorian.” Mr. Grayson informed, and Dorian nodded before he started the car.He didn’t need to use his phone for the map, but he decided to use the system to direct him. The system displayed an easy to understand map, and this made Dorian’s drive, smooth.Mr. Grayson was quite pleased with

  • Chapter 62: "What?"

Dorian got down from bed, and headed out of the house, without taking Max along with him. He knew that there was a tendency that Max would make him feel like an idiot for going to meet Amelia, so it was best to avoid that.He got to his Maybach, and drove off to the park which Amelia wanted them to meet at. According to her, she was there already, and wasn’t going to keep waiting for long.Soon, he got to the park, and his eyes scanned everywhere in search for her before he spotted her, sipping an orange juice, then he walked up to her.“I’m here. What do you have to show to me?” Dorian asked immediately, not wanting to spend more than a minute, here.“Easy, easy.” She said, staring at him like he was a weirdo, then her eyes drifted off to his Maybach, and she scoffed.“I still wonder how you got that Maybach. Whoever lent you the car must be really stupid. Tch!” She commented badly, and rolled her eyes.“Is that what you came here for? Let’s get right into what you called me for, Ame

Soon, Dorian and Mercury got to Mr. Grayson’s mansion. Dorian was ushered in to the sitting room, and asked to wait for Mr. Grayson. The mansion was truly a mansion, and had beautiful interior decorations. The marble floor looked squeaky clean, and the white-painted walls gave off the vibe of a wealthy home. The pretty chandelier that was hung on the ceiling, added classic beauty in the home, and then Dorian’s eyes fell on the big frame of a photo of Mr. Grayson, and his beautiful daughter. He stared at the photo, and he smiled. He could tell that her father loved her very much, and that showed how lucky she was, to be born in a home like this.“Dorian Flint.” Dorian heard his name, and a chuckle followed after. He looked in the direction of the voice, and stood up as he discovered it was Mr. Grayson. He was quite surprised that the man knew his full name.“Uhm… I’m sorry. I sort of did a little dig on you. Come on, have your seat.” Mr. Grayson urged as he carefully sat down on the so

  • Chapter 60: "Let's go."

The dinner went by fast and since it wasn't really a dinner, Dorian found himself dumbfounded until he finally got home and went to sleep.Dorian’s eyes fluttered open as the warm sun rays shone on his face. The system had explained later that the change into a human had been a test of a one time feature. It would finally choose a true form finally, but not until he had earned it. Dorian stared at the ceiling, and was reluctant to get up from bed, but as usual his thoughts were interrupted by his phone’s beep.He reached out to get his phone, and opened the text which read:“Hello Dorian Flint, this is Mercury, the man whom you thought was stalking you a while ago. Please, I’d like to meet you regarding a very important discussion.”Dorian pondered on this message. Why would the man would want to see him? He was sort of skeptical about it. He didn’t know how to react. Then another text popped up. It was an address. The address of the restaurant which the man wanted them to meet at.

  • Chapter 59: "Give me a name."

Dorian felt sick to his tummy, and wondered if his misery had decided to come back for him. There was no way he could contact those men who had abducted he and Dave as that was the only lead, he had.He tried to track the cat again, but the same X sign came up on the system, and he slammed his hand on his face, feeling frustrated and helpless. He had lost interest in meeting Mr. Craig as he felt that the connection, they might have together might not last long, due to the unavailability of the cat in his life.Dorian plopped down on his sofa, thinking of what he could do, or if he just had to wait until the cat came back, if that’s it wandered away for a while. But a text interrupted his thoughts, and he was surprised to see Mr. Craig’s text again.“I’ll be expecting you shortly, Mr. Flint. We have a lot to talk about.”Dorian sighed, and stood up on his feet. His curiosity had just been piqued again by Mr. Craig, and he wanted to know how important the meeting was.Dorian walked over

  • Chapter 58: "Bullshit."

Dorian’s eyes widened for the first time in a while and he let out a silent breath.Craig Tech Industries. That was a fairly big name in the city’s tech sector.“It’s nice to meet you, Mr Craig. I’m Dorian Flint.”Craig Thian replied with a chuckle, “Yes, we know that, Mr. Flint.”Craig Tech Industry was a popular industry known for producing one of the best tech products, and it got Dorian wondering why he contacted him, or how he got his number.“To what do I owe this call?”Dorian’s question was one of fifty percent interest and seventy percent caution. The equation was unequal, but he had to be careful here.“I’d love to meet you regarding something very important Mr Flint. I do hope you’ll be able to create some time here for us at Craig Industries, and then maybe we’ll be able to talk over a cup of coffee.”The suggestion seemed innocent enough yet the moment Dorian heard it the only that came to his mind was that he was going to be kidnapped. The system’s chortle was the only

  • Chapter 57: "I'm Craig Thian."

As was always the case when the leader of a gang was stupid, the coughing started and Dorian watched as those under Matthew Don struggled to organize themselves and get him to safety fast enough. They bumped into each other, crashed into one another, the whole situation was confusing and there was an added sense of chaos because Matthew wouldn't stop coughing.Dorian watched as all this was going on and he caught Dave's eyes from the corner of his vision.Dave was staring at him weirdly, and truthfully anyone in that situation would.Almost like Dorian had known this would happen he kept on a calm expression all through the ruckus. Something different was on his mind. Getting Matthew to have a coughing fit that would almost take his life didn't mean they would get released.Obviously, this was only occurring to him right now because he always forgot to think things through.Dorian cursed under his breath and hoped that this would play out the way he wanted it to.Dorian stared at the

  • Chapter 56: "You only live once."

Dorian smiled at this information. This was what he needed to get at the leader. This was the power of the destroyer system.Or at least one aspect of it.Dorian could feel something pricking him in his heart at the fact that this man had a daughter he was taking care of. Someone he was trying to better.Something like fear ran through his heart at the fact that he would have to repay this use of the destroyer system, especially when he didn’t know what the price would be, and especially when he knew this feature was a malicious one.Dorian looked up at the smirking man and responded,“Yes, I am awake, and don’t you think I need answers to my questions?”Dorian could see Dave stiffen beside him but he ignored that reaction. It was better Dave was out of the line of attack. Dave on the other hand was busy wondering what Dorian had in mind. From the time of the ambush and their subsequent kidnap, only one thing had been running through his mind, the fact that he had to escape this.Lif

  • Chapter 55: "Best of luck Host."

In the middle of a situation like this, there were only two options. Defend, or run.Dorian chucked the other option into the trash bin because it was obvious that wouldn’t work. How fast would he be able to move before a bullet went into his leg? Or spine?Plus, Dave was here. Even if he was to use the aerial surveillance feature to evade the shots, Dave would be collateral damage.“Back away from them really slowly.”Dorian whispered those words under his breath and he was pleased to see Dave got them and was now obeying them.To keep the strangers distracted, Dorian did the one thing he had never really done in his life.“Who the hell are you guys, and what the fuck do you want from us!” Shouting.Shouting when no one else had raised their voice in a situation was a surefire way to aggravate your opponents, and get hurt if your bark couldn’t back up your bite.Oddly though, the lanky man at the head of the group simply chuckled and slickly put his lean mean looking gun into the be
