Ivan stared at his reflection in the mirror. He wasn't sure he'd looked this good since his wedding with Selene. The woman who he could have sworn would have died for him once upon a time.

He scoffed.

The black tux made him far more elegant than he'd ever looked.

He let out a sigh. For someone that had barely gotten a wink of sleep last night, he looked pretty good.

Thanks to the glam team Leah had hired for him. The bag under his eyes were berry visible.

The door to the hotel room opened and

Ivan sighed. Master Sinzu was definitely trying to drive him mad. The gift he'd given him did nothing to help answer his questions about the empty letter he'd gotten from him a couple of days ago.He knew accepting this life from grandpa Sinzu was going to be tough but he never imagined that he'd also have to constantly decipher these riddles too.He looked at the time, it was 1pm. Leah was having a conference call with her associates. In an hour, they'd be going to the company to introduce him as the new CEO of Dalton Enterprise. And after that, they'd see a realtor and then off to the family planning clinic. He stared at his reflection. Now that he had gotten his wolf, he was genuinely scared. He still hadn't talked to his mother about his wolf side. Too unsure of how to start, especially since she was still ill.Ivan placed the letter in the same drawer he had placed the other and left his room.As he left his room and went downstairs, he almost bumped into Leah. She looked breatht

Ivan had stopped counting the hours. The men had returned twice since their last conversation, each time with more questions about Dalton Enterprise and a mysterious document he supposedly possessed. He had told them repeatedly that he had no idea what they were talking about, but they seemed convinced he was lying. He was beginning to suspect that they didn't know much more than he did. The man with the scar had returned with another person, a woman this time, who introduced herself as Dr. Miller. She had a medical bag and an expression that suggested she was already tired of dealing with him. "How are you feeling?" she asked. Ivan stared at her. "Wonderful. I particularly enjoy being tied to furniture." She ignored his sarcasm and examined the puncture wound on his neck. "His pulse is elevated," she said to the scarred man. "Is that a problem?" "It could be a reaction to the sedative." Ivan watched them exchange a look. Sedative. So they had been giving him more than on

Leah had never understood why people waited until after their weddings to open their presents.By the time the last guest had left and the couple had returned home, she was usually too exhausted to care about what anyone had bought them. However, their wedding had been an unusual affair, and the gifts had been piling up in one of the sitting rooms since the reception. Now, several days later, she finally had the time to go through them.Ivan sat on the rug with his back against the sofa, looking considerably less enthusiastic than she was."You're not helping."He glanced at the pile of boxes beside her."I wasn't aware I had been employed.""You haven't. You're my husband. There's a difference.""Is there?""Yes. Husbands are expected to participate in activities like this."Ivan picked up a small box and turned it over."I thought husbands were expected to provide, protect and occasionally tolerate their wives.""You're doing a terrible job at the last one."He smiled faintly.Leah

"You're doing it wrong."Ivan stopped and looked at Silas."Would you like to demonstrate?"Silas folded his arms. "I'm not the one who nearly burnt down an entire building because I couldn't control my wolf.""That's a very helpful observation."They were standing in a clearing behind the estate, far enough from the main house to avoid damaging anything if Ivan lost control again. Silas had insisted on conducting the training outside, and Julian had arranged for a few members of the security team to stand at a distance in case things went wrong.Ivan wasn't particularly pleased about having an audience. He glanced at the men watching them."Do they really have to be here?""Yes.""Why?""Because if you turn into a giant furnace and start running around, someone needs to make sure you don't set the estate on fire."Ivan looked at him."I didn't set the building on fire deliberately.""Of course not. The building simply offended you."Ivan sighed and rolled his shoulders. He had spent

Leah was in the middle of arguing with Silas when Julian's call came in.She almost ignored it. They had been going back and forth for the better part of an hour about whether she should accompany the search team to the industrial estate, and she was getting tired of being told to sit still while everyone else looked for her husband."Julian, if you're calling to tell me another team has found nothing, I really don't want to hear it.""Madam."Something in his voice made her pause."What?""We found him."Leah went completely still. For a moment, she couldn't process the words."What did you say?""Mr Ivan is alive. He's at a hospital."Her hand flew to her mouth."He's alive?""Yes, madam. He called me himself."Leah closed her eyes, and the breath she had been holding escaped in a shaky exhale. She gripped the edge of the table, suddenly feeling as though her legs might give way."Where is he?"Julian gave her the hospital's name."I'm coming," she said immediately."Madam, please w

The wolf kept moving until the sounds of the burning building faded behind him. The trees became denser, and the ground beneath his paws grew uneven.Eventually, his legs began to weaken. The sedatives were still working through his body, fighting against whatever had forced his transformation. His breathing became erratic, and the heat that had kept him moving began to drain away.He stumbled.A few more steps. Then another. His front legs buckled, and he crashed against the damp earth. For a while, he remained there, panting heavily. The wolf tried to get up, but his body refused to cooperate. The transformation began to reverse. His fur receded, his claws shortened, and his limbs returned to their human form. The process left him shaking and painfully weak.Ivan lay on his side, unable to move.He could hear the wind moving through the trees. Somewhere nearby, an owl called. He tried to open his eyes. The darkness swallowed everything. The building was almost completely destroyed b
