Selene Sinclair couldn’t wait to meet Leah Dalton. She had spent the entire night rehearsing her proposal. She was positive she could get her on board with this project she was working on.

If she could get her to collaborate with her on the interiors of the automobiles, she would finally be where she'd always wanted to be. Benson had set the meeting up and she didn't want to let him down.

She sat in the reception area, her heels tapping against the well polished marble floor.

“Miss Dalton will see you, now.” Gloria appeared in front of her with a smile that didn't reach her eyes.

“About time.” Selene murmured under her breath. She hated to wait for anything or anyone. Her waiting was what turned her into pauper with Ivan for so long

She stood, dusted an invisible lint off her pencil skirt, and followed the receptionist whose name was Gloria into a hallway that led to a conference room.

Gloria opened the door, and froze when she saw Ivan sitting at the head of the chair, a smug smile on his face.

She blinked, unsure of what she was looking at. Then suddenly burst out laughing.

Ivan frowned. That was not the reaction he was hoping for.

“Well, well, well. I guess you finally got a job as a Janitor here. Impressive. Does your boss know you’re an ex-convict?” she mocked.

Ivan shook his head. Of course, she would think that.

“What? You are not going to say anything?” She demanded.

Ivan didn’t speak. Just watched the monster he used to be in love with speak to him like he didn’t matter. Like he was dirt.I'm

“You should have a seat.” He finally said.

“You should wipe my seat.”

She smirked. “That is your job, isn’t it? Does your boss know you are disrespecting her guest?”

Ivan couldn’t believe it. Selene had turned into something else. Something almost resembling Benson.

“You know, I spent every waking hour in prison thinking about you, praying for the day I could finally hold you in my arms again, but instead you were spreading your legs for the man who kept stalking and almost raped you. Don’t you feel any shame? Any remorse?”

“The only shame I feel, Ivan was marrying you. That’s it. I spent eight years with you. But absolutely nothing to show for it. Just one year with Benson, and my business is flourishing more than ever. If anyone should feel shame, it should be you.” She spat.

Her words stung more than Ivan was willing to admit. Those eight years had been the best years of his life. It was said it meant absolutely nothing to her.

“What? Nothing to say?”

Ivan glared.

“Of course not.” She scoffed. “Typical Ivan.”

“I have nothing else to say to the likes of you. You don't deserve it.”

Selene rolled her eyes. “You should be more respectful of me, Ivan. I have the power to make sure you never find work anywhere else again.”

“Actually.” Leah stepped in just then. “He does.”

Selene ’quickly turned around, eyes wide.

“Miss Dalton. Good afternoon. I was just telling the Janitor here that he needs to have some manners.”

Leah raised a perfectly carved brow “The Janitor? I’ll have you know; Selene that Ivan Claire Smith is my Fiancé.”

Selene blinked; sure, she had heard wrong.

“What?”

“Yes,” Leah said, walking over to Ivan and pulling him for a kiss.

Ivan stiffened before pulling her by the waist, and kissing her back passionately. It started as a way to get back at Selene. But soon, Ivan was more interested in the kids than any Vedenta.

Her lips were soft, and welcoming. Ivan felt intoxicated by the scent of her, the way her tongue tangled against his. She moaned softly, her hands finding his collar, pulling him closer.

For a second, Ivan thought about taking her right on the conference table while Selene watched.

Selene stood frozen in place, watching what she felt was her personal nightmare.

There was absolutely no way this was happening. She tried to look away but she couldn't

Leah broke the kiss, and for a second, neither of them could look away from each other. Ivan thought about pulling her back in. He told himself it was to drive home the point that he was with a much better woman than her now.

Selene cleared her throat, feeling uncomfortable.

“Oh, right. My apologies. Where were we? Right? I believe the meeting is over for obvious reasons.” Leah smirked.

“Please.” Selene begged. “I’ll do anything.”

Leah ignored her, walking past her.

“The security will escort you out…”

“Wait.” Ivan suddenly said.

“What is it?” Leah asked.

“How about we hear her out.”

Leah frowned, clearly not expecting mercy from Ivan. Little did she know that wasn’t the case at all.

“Why?”

“Becaue it's business. It would be unfair to let go of a great opportunity like this without hearing what she has to offer. How about we reschedule the meeting for tomorrow?”

Even Selene was shocked.

“If you insist.” Leah said with a frown.

Selene thanked Leah, and him profusely, but as soon as she left the building, she called Benson.

“That fool is getting married to her!” she yelled into the phone.

“Why on earth would you do that?” Leah asked.

“Because if we refuse her, she may just find one of our competitors that might accept her. I would much rather destroy what she has worked for while she is close.”

Leah stared at him, shocked, and a little turned on. She couldn't believe how brilliant a plan he'd just came up with. “Grandfather truly chose well.”

Ivan smirked. He had wanted to see just a bit of remorse from Selene to prove to himself that what they had wasn’t entirely fake. Deep down, he had hoped Selene was doing this because she had been brainwashed or blackmailed, but the truth was it was none of that. In fact, she was truly wicked, he was just too in love to notice.

A shame, really because hé really loved her. She was his everything…

“You okay?’ Leah asked when she noticed the look in his face.

“I'm fine.”

Leah’s phone suddenly rang. She picked up and her face went cold. Then she looked up at Ivan.

“Of course.” she nodded.

‘Noted. Good work, Andrew.”

And with that she hung up.

“What's wrong?”

“Two things.” She voiced. “We may know the people responsible for trying to kill you and your mom had another episode.”

The smell of pancakes drew Ivan to the kitchen the next morning. After tossing and turning, and even researching on the internet last night, he was finally able to sleep for just two hours. Not that it bothered him. Three years in the worst prison in the country had gotten him used to that life of no sleep, this was nothing compared to it. “Good morning, Sir Ivan.” Sylvia, the dark-haired maid greeted as Ivan emerged in the kitchen.“Good morning.” Ivan smiled, his mouth watering. He couldn’t believe he was finally free. Prison had been horrible, but by Master Shinzu’s side, he ate a lot of good meals, but there was just something about eating while free. There was something about not being caged like an animal, sticking to routines and not following rules every minute. it felt good. “Have a seat, sir. Ill give you your food.”Ivan did as he was told. The petit maid served him a big portion of scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast, and his favorite desert, Chocolate ice creamHe asked h

Ivan woke up in the middle of the road, head spinning, and completely confused. Two men were staring right above him. One of them held a phone to his ears.“Are you alright? Sir?” a dark-skinned man in his twenties asked. A mini crowd had gathered around him, staring like he just dropped from the sky. Ivan blinked. The last thing he remembered was the man in black, and then getting shot.He quickly felt his chest, and his back. No pain. The only indication he had been shot was the blood in his chest.Ivan stumbled up right.“Sir?” The man called again, but Ivan just stumbled off, trying to figure out what the hell just happened. As he made his way towards the hospital, a familiar Audi blocked his way.It was Leah. She quickly stepped out of the car, and ran towards him.“What the hell happened?” She demanded.Ivan shook his head. “I don’t know… I think I was shot, but I don’t feel anything.Leah frowned. “Where?” he pulled open his chest but there wasn’t even so much as a scratch.

“Are you alright?” Leah asked thirty minutes later when they were both now in her condo.Ivan was anything but fine.“What do you think?”“I think you are hurt by what your ex wife said. I also think she isn’t worth the pain you feel right now.”He scoffed. “You think you know everything, don’t you?”“I know most.”She smiled.Something about her both annoyed and intrigued him. She was hard to put in a box, and he didn’t know if he wanted to be hitched to a woman he didn’t understand.“You sound like your grandfather.” He scoffed.“He raised the man that raised me. Of course I do. Anyway, enough of this pity party, we should talk about our wedding. I was thinking in two weeks’ time…”“I’m not interested in getting married.” Ivan interrupted. He was done with whatever bullshit this was. Nobody told him what to do!Leah frowned. “What?”Ivan stood. “Look, I just got out of a fucking sham of a marriage with the woman I planned to spend the rest of my life with, and you think jumping into

  • Chapter 2

Ivan was very aware of who the woman standing before him was. He’d spent three years with her grandfather after all. He had been the only reason he wasn’t bullied the first time he entered the prison. What he didn’t quite understand was this talk about marriage. “I don’t understand.” Ivan spoke. Selene and her fool are honking their car, annoyed that Leah was blocking them. The assistant waved the driver to move.Leah smiled, and for a second, Ivan wondered whether she was even human. She looked too perfect, otherworldly There wasn’t even a single hair out of place on her head. Her green eyes seemed to draw you in like a sinking sand would draw one in.“Grandfather didn’t tell you about the arrangement, I see.”“No, he didn’t.” His frown deepened. She sighed. “Almost seventy, and he still plays these games. No matter. How about I take you out for lunch. We can discuss more there.” Even her voice sounded musical. As curious as Ivan was. The only thing he could think about was his mo

“I am going to miss you, man. It's like losing a fucking son.”The warden said as he let Ivan out. Ivan stared at his reflection as the heavy gates slid open for him to pass.He looked completely different from the man he was three years ago.He was bigger, more muscular, more facial hair, and even a couple of tattoos now lined his back, and it was all thanks to Master sinzu aka, his mentor and father behind bars.“I’m going to miss you too, Wardern, Grey.” He smiled, patting the older man on the back affectionately, then turned, and waved at the other prisoners who were distraught to see him go. It was hard to admit, but he was going to miss them too. He had spent three years of his life with them, and they’d become somewhat of a family.“They are definitely going to miss you too, that’s for sure. You brought order to their lives.” The warden smiled ruefully.Ivan glanced at the warden who had become a friend throughout his stay here. “I’m sure in your hands, order won’t be a problem
