It wasn't long after Copper and Whitaker left the facility where Jackson was, that Evans decided to return home too. His body had been craving for rest, and he knew it was time he gave to it what it was demanding from him.

The drive back home was somewhat quiet as though the entire city had slept leaving him alone on the cold rainy night.

However, as he drove, something gnawed at him that the only car behind him was tailing him. Every bend, every curve he took, the car had done the same.

At first, he had thought it was just a mere coincidence. But now, pondering on it even more, the realization hit him that he was being followed, and whoever it was that was following him, was planning something bad against him.

His hand brushed the inside of his jacket where his sidearm rested, his pace steady, not betraying the alertness in his eyes.

Then, like something automatic, the car's headlights flared and immediately cut in front of him so sharply that he had to step on his brakes to avoid t

The secure chamber of the CIA’s upper council was shrouded in silence, broken only by the low hum of the recessed lights above and the occasional shuffle of paper. A dozen faces glared down from the table — men and women who held the strings of the renowned Central Intelligence Agency. At the center of it all stood Superintendent Hayes, his hair catching the sterile light, his voice as sharp as the dossiers stacked in front of him.“Council members, I present to you once again the overwhelming evidence,” Hayes said, his hand slamming against a file thick with stamped reports. “Agent Evans has not only withheld information but has been seen in the company of enemies of this nation. The meeting with Samantha Lewis, his team up with Jack Lewis, the concealed communications, the lack of transparency about the Whitelist archives — all of it points to betrayal. He is compromised.”Murmurs rippled through the room. Screens flickered with surveillance photos and grainy images of Evans seated

  • Chapter 198: The Last Call!

Copper sat alone in his room, his weathered hands gripping the phone so tightly the leather casing creaked beneath his fingers. For hours he had paced, debated, and fought with the silence of his own conscience. Dylan’s proposal had sounded reckless, experimental and dangerous with outcomes no one could fully predict. But time was no longer a luxury they had. Jackson’s condition was worsening by the hour, his Flameborn essence flickering like a candle caught in a storm. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Copper lifted the phone and pressed the call button. The line clicked alive almost instantly.“Dylan,” he said, though the weight beneath his voice betrayed him. “Do it. Inject the serum into Jackson.”There was a pause on the other end, followed by Dylan’s low, steady reply. “You understand what this means, Copper? If it fails—”“I know,” Copper cut him off sharply, the words breaking out like a blade drawn too fast. He drew in a deep breath, forcing the tremor out of his ch

  • Chapter 197: A Son’s Horror!

Jack froze where he stood, his entire body stiff beneath the weight of Don Lewis’s gaze. His father’s eyes were sharp, unblinking, the kind that could strip flesh from bone with nothing more than suspicion. For a single terrifying second, Jack’s breath caught in his throat, and he swore his heartbeat was loud enough to betray him.“Jack,” Don’s voice came, low and deliberate, like the slow draw of a blade. “How long have you been standing there?”His palms were already clammy, his mind scrambling for an exit, for a cover, for anything that wouldn’t condemn him on the spot. He swallowed hard, forcing his lips to move.“I… just arrived, Father.” The words slipped out smoother than he expected, though his knees felt ready to buckle beneath him.Don didn’t blink. Didn’t nod. He just studied his son with a predator’s silence, letting the tension stretch long enough to make Jack’s skin crawl. Finally, Don leaned back in his chair, fingers drumming against the desk as though testing the rhy

  • Chapter 196: A Picture Worth Blood!

Superintendent Hayes was in his office in the east division of the CIA when a knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. He had been waiting for Director Whitaker to get back to him regarding Bella and Jackson and all that Whitaker had relayed back to him was that he had everything under control.Though, he expected more, he just had to believe that Whitaker really had everything under control, and there was no need to worry."Come in," Hayes said, still busy with what he was doing. One of the agents stepped inside, a thin folder tucked under his arm. “Sir,” the agent said, his voice clipped. “We received something from our field source. You’ll want to see this.”Hayes didn’t look up from the paperwork scattered before him. “If this is about the Lewis file, leave it.”The CIA has been on the case of the Lewis' for months and yet, they've not been able to find a loophole as to their underground operations as far as the Mafia world was concerned.“It’s not that, sir.” the agent slid th

  • Chapter 194: Copper’s Dilemma!

The isolation room was quiet, save for the slow, steady beep of the monitoring equipment. Copper sat alone in the corner, elbows braced on his knees, staring at the faint rise and fall of Jackson's chest as if it were a clock ticking down to zero.On the small metal table beside him lay a single glass vial — Dylan’s serum — its contents a dark, viscous red that seemed to catch the light in strange, unnatural ways.Copper had turned it over in his hand for the better part of an hour, studying every reflection in its surface, searching for answers in a liquid that carried nothing but questions.Dylan’s words echoed in his head like a curse:“It could bring him back, Copper, and also has the potential to restore the Flameborn. But what we can't predict is what is likely to happen once it gets into his blood—whether his body will resist it or allow it."Copper wasn't new to the idea of the serum. He had known about everything from Philip and how Victor Vaughan had attempted to use the sam
