Celestine had finally drifted into an uneasy sleep, curled up on the couch beneath a knitted throw. Jackson remained beside her, scrolling aimlessly through his phone, trying to escape the weight of the night.That was when it rang—vibrating suddenly and startlingly in the silence.He quickly stepped outside to avoid waking Celestine.
