The New Paladin

On a new day, early in the morning, Adam felt strange sleeping in the same bed as the stranger he had just met. The bed he slept in was also made of teak wood. The bed looked worn and old. He slowly sat up for a moment and tried to focus. Every bone and muscle in his body ached. He didn't know that the side effects of using Jager's power could be that severe.

"Why is it so quiet?"

Adam walked out of the house. As he opened the door, he was mesmerized by the sight of the cornfield that he could see more clearly than last night.

"Wow!"

The air was also clean and fresh. This was the first time in his life he felt so grateful. The blue sky with few clouds, the morning sun on the eastern horizon, the luxurious view of the cornfields, Adam felt like he was vacationing in a piece of heaven.

"Are you awake?" Ryan greeted. He carried some gardening tools in both hands.

"What are you doing?" Adam approached him.

"The corn will be harvested soon. I'm just checking whether there are any pests
