Chapter 3. The First Battle
The growl vibrated through the air, heavier than the thundering waterfall crashing behind them. Xarath stepped out from the shadows of a giant oak tree, his three-meter-tall body appearing like a living monument of darkness. Black steam hissed from the cracks in his charcoal skin, and his red eyes locked onto Kael with an intensity that seemed capable of searing flesh.
"The scent of your fear is sharper than the smell of this sulfur, Boy," Xarath’s voice sounded like the scraping of rusted metal. "The Conqueror’s Flame does not deserve to be in the hands of a trembling coward."
Master Selama stepped forward, positioning himself in front of Kael and Mara. His wooden staff now glowed with a faint blue aura, though Kael could see the old man's hand trembling slightly. The old wound on Selama's waist must have been agonizing, yet his gaze remained as sharp as an eagle's.
"Back away, Xarath," Selama commanded, his voice calm yet containing undeniable authority. "He is not yours yet."
Xarath laughed, a sound more like the groan of breaking stone. "You are old, Selama. Your breath is short and your fire is starting to dim. Give the boy to me, and perhaps I will let the woman die quickly."
"Kael!" Selama shouted without looking back. "Do as I trained you earlier. Focus the heat in your chest to the tips of your hands. Don't let your fear extinguish it. We need a distraction!"
Kael swallowed hard, his throat feeling dry and constricted. He saw his mother huddled in the corner of the cave, her face deathly pale. He didn't want to be a burden. He had to do something. Kael closed his eyes, trying to find the small sun inside his heart that had briefly ignited earlier.
He felt it—a wild and demanding flow of heat. He tried to direct it to his right palm, imagining a small spark that could become an explosion. Come on, come out, he whispered in his heart. The heat began to spread to his arm, making his veins throb.
However, as the heat reached his fingertips, the image of the destroyed Eldara Village suddenly flashed through his mind. He saw the faces of his screaming neighbors, saw houses turning to ash because of a power he couldn't control. His hands shook violently. What if I burn Master Selama instead? What if this cave explodes with Mother inside?
That doubt came like a drenching of ice water. The heat in his arm suddenly receded, leaving a hollow coldness. The spark that had briefly appeared at his fingertips died out with a pathetic little hiss.
"I... I can't, Master," Kael whispered, tears of frustration beginning to well up.
"There's no time for doubt!" Selama screamed as Xarath lunged forward with a speed impossible for a creature of that size.
Xarath slammed his fist toward them. Selama swiftly raised his staff, creating a curved shield of blue fire. The impact produced a shockwave that sent the waterfall outside the cave flying in the opposite direction. Kael was thrown against the cave wall, his back hitting the hard rock until he gasped for breath.
Selama groaned, his feet dragging across the ground, leaving deep furrows. Xarath showed no mercy. The monster general attacked relentlessly with his claws and fists. Every strike made Selama's shield thinner and more cracked.
"Weak!" Xarath roared. He caught Selama's staff and, with brutal strength, threw the fire master toward the outside of the cave. Selama rolled across the wet ground, coughing up blood, yet he tried to stand with what remained of his strength.
Now, nothing stood between Xarath and Kael. The monster walked slowly into the mouth of the cave, savoring the scent of despair radiating from the young man.
"Look at yourself," Xarath mocked, towering over Kael. "You possess the power of a god, yet your soul is more fragile than a dry twig. You are nothing but a mistake of history."
Xarath raised his claws, ready to rip open Kael's chest. Cornered, Kael tried once more. He screamed, pushing all his remaining energy into his hands, begging the fire to appear. An orange glow appeared for a moment, but died out again within seconds. He was too afraid. He was too weak.
"Stop!" Mara screamed, trying to throw a stone at Xarath.
Xarath glanced at Mara with disgust. "Nuisance of a woman."
The monster did not attack Mara directly; instead, he slammed his fist into the ceiling of the cave mouth with a force capable of toppling mountains. An explosion of dark energy radiated from his punch, sending large cracks spidering along the stone walls of the ancient cave.
"If I cannot take you now, then be buried with your failure!" Xarath growled.
The earth shook violently. The thunderous sound of giant rocks breaking was deafening. Kael looked up with wide eyes. The cave ceiling began to collapse. Dust and gravel fell like a deadly rain.
"Mother! Master!" Kael screamed, trying to reach for his mother's hand, which was a few meters away.
However, a giant stone block fell right between them, cutting off Kael's view. He saw the severely injured Selama trying to run back inside, but the monster released another blast of energy that accelerated the cave's collapse.
"Kael! Stay alive!" Selama's voice was faintly heard behind the roar of the ruins.
Kael's vision went dark. The last thing he felt was an excruciating pain as a large rock hit his shoulder, pushing his body down into a dark crevice in the deeper part of the cave. The thunderous sound of the collapse shut out all access to light.
Within seconds, a haunting silence enveloped the place. The air was filled with dust that choked the lungs. Kael lay under a pile of rocks and earth, trapped in a cramped, stifling space. His trembling hands felt around him, finding only the cold, sharp stone surfaces pressing in from all directions.
He tried to call out, but his voice only ended as a raspy whisper swallowed by the darkness. He was alone. His power had betrayed him, his master was separated, and his mother was nowhere to be found.
In the midst of that total darkness, a coldness began to creep up to his heart. The fear he had been holding back now exploded into pure despair. He was the Fire Conqueror, yet here, beneath thousands of tons of earth, he was just a young man waiting for his end in the endless darkness.
A single tear fell onto the dusty ground. Kael closed his eyes, letting the darkness claim his consciousness as the oxygen in the cramped space slowly began to thin.

CHAPTER 49: Gathering the Shards of HopeKael rushed out of his room, his breath coming in short gasps. The call he had felt from Ashfall still echoed in his mind—a fading whisper laden with sorrow and urgency. He had to find Jax and Lyra immediately. This information was too vital to keep to himself. He found Jax at the security headquarters, examining the city’s defense maps with an uneasy expression. The other guards appeared busy, yet an aura of tension permeated the entire room. Reports of withered crops and animals dying without cause continued to pour in, slowly eroding the morale of the sentries bit by bit."Jax," Kael called out, his voice carrying a sharp note of urgency.Jax looked up, his eyes widening slightly at Kael’s expression. "Kael! What is it? You look...""I felt something," Kael interrupted, stepping closer. "From Ashfall. A call. From The Stopper, or at least what remains of him." He recounted the sensation of the warmth from the 'fire of will' and the faint whi

CHAPTER 48: The Shadow Creeping Over the City of HopeThe atmosphere of the City of Hope, once cheerful and vibrant, was now shrouded in a subtle layer of anxiety. News of the Nothingness’s awakening—though shared only with the council and Dr. Elara—had created a tension that was nearly invisible but omnipresent. To the east, toward the Ashfall mountains, the sky remained a dense, leaden gray, resembling a black hole slowly expanding. The citizens did not yet fully grasp what was happening, but their instincts felt the shift—a formless threat looming on the horizon.Jax, his face set in grim lines, immediately gathered the security forces. He led intensive military drills, reinforced the defensive walls, and organized strict patrols. He knew that while physical weapons could not wound the Nothingness, they had to be prepared for mass panic or potential raids from Void remnants still lurking at the borders, looking for opportunity in the chaos.Lyra, wasting no time, prepared her supp
Chapter 47. Escape Beneath a Fading Sky
CHAPTER 47: Escape Beneath a Fading SkyThe ground thundered beneath Kael’s feet, not from a common earthquake, but from a bizarre vibration crawling out of the core of the void. He ran with everything he had up the crater slope, ignoring the pain searing through every muscle. Behind him, the thick black mist of the Nothingness—now possessing The Stopper—extended with terrifying speed, devouring rocks, ash, and anything it touched into oblivion. A hissing sound, like thousands of souls being dragged into an abyss, filled the air, creating a symphony of horror.Jax and Lyra were several paces ahead of him, piercing through the thickening sulfur fog. Their breath came in ragged gasps, their faces deathly pale. The fear was tangible, feeling like an icy grip on everyone’s chest. Kael felt the hollow gaze of the Nothingness fixed on his back—a stare devoid of anger or hatred, containing only infinite emptiness. He knew the shadow wanted him. It wanted that faint fire of will to be exting
Chapter 46. The Era of Great Silence
The thick black mist swirled, exhaling a cold so biting it pierced the very core of existence. In the center of the Ashfall crater, atop the now-shattered sealing structure, the giant shadow loomed. It possessed no definitive shape, yet it radiated an aura of absolute void—a vacuum that felt "alive" and ravenous. Kael felt his connection to The Stopper, the fire god, snap. It wasn't because the flame had been extinguished, but because something else had seized it, twisting that pure essence into a tool for the silence."No...!" Kael gasped, his voice catching in his throat. His eyes widened in horror at the entity standing before them. This was no ordinary Void Bringer. This was the Nothingness given form, possessing a divine essence, ready to erase all that is.Beside him, Jax swallowed hard, his trembling sword no longer feeling like a weight he could carry. "What... what is that?!" his voice was hoarse, saturated with terror. Lyra’s arrow, once notched and ready, now dangled limply
Chapter 45.
CHAPTER 45: The Echo of WillThe air in the Ashfall crater felt piercing, carrying a cold deeper than any temperature. The inverted pyramid of the seal stood firm, the purple carvings on its surface appearing dimmer, almost invisible under the thin reflection of sunlight filtering through the mountain crevices. Kael stood before the seal, with Jax and Lyra standing guard behind him, their expressions tense and fully alert. They had returned, driven by a faster journey and the flickers of hope Kael had felt in the City of Hope."Are you ready?" Jax whispered, his sword slightly raised, a thin glint of light dancing across the blade.Kael nodded, his eyes closed. He tried to focus, searching not for a consuming fire, but for the warmth he had recently discovered. The warmth of Rian’s laughter, his mother’s smile, and the spirited rebuilding of the City of Hope. This was the fire of will—the fire of creation. He drew in all that positive energy, centering it within himself, in the place
Chapter 44.
CHAPTER 44: Stepping into the Heart of the ThreatMorning crept over the City of Hope, bringing with it a bone-chilling cold, as if the sky itself felt the tension surrounding Kael. His decision was final: he had to return to Ashfall, face that sealing structure once more, and test the 'fire of will' that was slowly beginning to pulse within him. Jax and Lyra, without a second thought, stood by his side. They had discussed the matter at length in the research headquarters, trying to piece together every fragment of information Dr. Elara had gathered from the ancient inscriptions. A more detailed map, notes on the strange geological formations around the seal site, and a small pouch of silver powder—an anti-Void deterrent—served as their primary supplies."This map shows small fissures and hidden caves around the main crater," Dr. Elara explained, her tired but focused eyes pointing to a worn scroll. "Perhaps they can serve as alternative paths or shelter if things take a turn for the
