The Inception

Is that a sound of trumpet? Hmm. It better not be! Otherwise, Karmagha is finished. Trumpets are blown whenever there is an outbreak of war. Karmagha is not ready for any war, it has not fully recovered from the outcome of the war between it and Amsnath in 1408, two years ago. Who will deliver this weak city from the mighty hand of the people of Hashan?

The people of Hashan had besieged the water region and tried to block the water flow into the kingdom. There was drought in the land, the average people who could no longer fend for themselves, sold themselves as slaves to the wealthy people in the society, who in turn, provided them with food.

The siege was much; people’s faith was on strong warriors to safe them who tried their best but could not drive the rivals. A man of the people of Amsnath named Karmagha sojourned into this weak kingdom. He was 8 feet and 10 inches tall, he had six toes on each foot and six fingers on each hand. He lived in the mountain and feeds on live fishes. Getting to know of the siege, Karmagha decided to help the kingdom; he mobilized the warriors and strong men in the land for the battle. They engaged the enemies and defeated them, victory was gotten. All began to sing his praise and they were shouting “Karmagha! Karmagha!! Karmagha!!!”. The kingdom was then named after him and he began to rule over them and helped them conquered rival kingdoms. At his demise, his descendants took over and they were known to be mighty men of war.

****** Present day 1700 ******

Karmagha is a city fenced round about and due to war between kingdoms, sorcery gained ground in Karmagha kingdom. They began to serve Saramandra – the goddess of fertility popularly known as the water goddess who in return made the kingdom fertile and productive.

Karmagha is surrounded with mountains, green vegetations and water flowing round the kingdom. There is a mountain in the midst of an ocean. The ocean is sacred, there the royal sorcerers of the 1st grade go twice in a year to perform rituals for the kingdom and renew their covenant. Saramandra is very gigantic, it is believed among the people of Karmagha that she is the rock in the middle of the sacred ocean. Vegetations surrounds the rock and on it, this accounts for why the rock is green in color. No one have seen Saramandra, not even the royal sorcerers who go to make rituals.

Only royals and wealthy men ride on horses. At this point, Karmagha no longer face oppositions from neighboring kingdom. Sorcerers keeps the place safe, the palace is also surrounded with sorcerers whose job is to ensure the safety of the royal family. There are guards – men of war at the entrance of the Palace.

Evelyn was in charge of other sorcerers, she trains them on how to do their job and ensured they did it well.

“Make sure the queen is okay” Evelyn said to one of the sorceresses.

“Yes,” she bowed and went to find the Queen.

Evelyn’s face suddenly changed, her eyes gushed out of the socket and her heart boiled with intense fury which reflected in the way her hands moved and her feet tapped the ground as she looked towards the throne from the glass window in the walk way to the various chambers in the palace and muttered “The time to take over the kingdom is gradually approaching.” She smiled and left to her chamber.

Evelyn is tall, fair in completion and had a bubbly personality. Her hair was ebony brown and she had slender eyebrows. She is someone that loves everything to be done accurately without any slack on her part. She is loyal to the throne to a fault which was a disguise so no one would know of her intent to take over the kingdom.

On her bed, she sent for Carrita through one of the palace maids assigned to be her minister. Carrita entered the chamber.

“Hope you’re prepared for the ritual tomorrow at the 12th hour when the moon will be at its peak?”

“Yes, all the materials have been prepared, I was at the tent close to the water today to make sure everything is fine.”

“That’s alright you can go, I will see the king tomorrow morning”. Carrita left the chamber while Evelyn laid down to sleep.

On the morrow, Evelyn was alone with the king in the palace. Three guards were positioned at the entering in of the palace.

“My king, the rituals and renewal of covenant with Saramandra the great water goddess will hold today at the 12th hour when there is the full moon and everything is in place.”

“You’ve done excellently well, noble sorceress,” he smiled, “you will be rewarded greatly for your immense contribution to the existence of this kingdom” he continued.

Evelyn thought within herself, “Only if the king knew that he would join his fathers when I return, he will spend time with his barren wife.” Her countenance brightened, she said “Thank you my king” and left his presence.

“Guards!” The king screamed.

Shammah the chief guard came in “Yes my king.”

“Hurry now and send words to the chiefs to assemble at the palace for today our covenant with Saramandra will be renewed”. He hastily left the palace.

At the 11th hour, Evelyn and Carrita were already at the sacred ocean for the rituals. They had assembled all they required for the ritual. The altar has been erected, bloods of animals were sprinkled round the alter as the manner was. The four other sorcerers took a bowl of blood and sprinkled it on the alter, used feathers to sprinkle the blood on the altar till it was exhausted.
