A sharp intake of breath. Then, silence.

Marcus had been working under Yemin long enough to understand the gravity of those words.

“Who dared to stop you!  I’ll handle it immediately.”

Yemin ended the call without another word.

Katherine’s mother let out a scoffing laugh, folding her arms as she eyed him with pure contempt. "Oh, please," she sneered. "You think making a phone call will change anything? Who are you trying to impress? You think we don’t know you're just putting on a show?"

She shook her head in mock pity, her voice dripping with disdain. "Pathetic. You’re still the same useless freeloader, trying to act important when everyone here knows the truth. This place is for the elite, for real men like James. Not for trash like you."

Yemin remained silent, his expression unreadable.

The lack of reaction only fueled her arrogance. She sneered and stepped closer, her voice rising deliberately to attract attention from nearby patrons. " Let me remind you what you really are."

She circled him like a predator, her lips curled in disgust. She forwarded her shoes in front of him.“Remember how you used to polish my shoes? Kneeling there like the worthless dog you are."

Yemin glanced at her back, didn’t want to talk to her. Because he knows she only talks shit like always.

Her eyes suddenly lit up with cruel amusement. She reached into her designer purse and pulled out a sleek wallet, removing several high-denomination bills. She waved them tauntingly in front of Yemin's face.

"I have an idea," she announced loudly enough for everyone to hear. "If you get down on your knees right now and clean my shoes... right here in front of everyone, I'll be generous enough to buy you dinner from this restaurant." She gestured to her expensive heels. "They're a bit dusty from the walk. Use your sleeve like you used to."

A few shocked gasps came from people entering the restaurant.

"Come on, Yemin," she pressed, her voice dripping with mock sympathy. "You must be hungry after being thrown out of my daughter's house. This is your chance for a proper meal. All you have to do is remember your place."

She turned to the security guards with a cruel smile. "Maybe he can shine your shoes too. He's quite good at it—the only skill he has, really."

The guards exchanged uncomfortable glances.

“I made it clear already that I am here for lunch, not to entertain you,” Yemin replied calmly to her. This hit a nerve to her, and she flared her nose angrily.

“How dare you stand against me.”She snapped her fingers at the guards. "Don't just stand there! Rough him up a bit before you throw him out. Show him what happens to vermin who try to crawl into places they don't belong."

The guards hesitated.

"Are you deaf?" she snarled. "I said teach him a lesson! James will make it worth your while. A month's salary each if you drag him out by his hair and make him apologize on his knees!"

Trusting her influence, one of the guards stepped forward, reaching for Yemin's arm.

Yemin didn't flinch.

Just as the guard's fingers brushed his sleeve—

“STOP!”

A panicked voice cut through the scene, and the restaurant manager came rushing out, nearly tripping over himself in his hurry. His face was ashen, his breathing uneven as his wide eyes landed on the unfolding scene.

The restaurant manager straightened, his face a mix of fear and authority as he turned toward the security guards.

"You fools!" he barked. "How dare you touch Mr Ravol?"

The guards stiffened, their hands tightening at their sides.

"He’s not someone you can mess with!" The manager’s voice was razor-sharp.

The guards paled instantly. One of them stammered, "S-Sir, we… we didn’t know."

They immediately turned to Yemin, bowing deeply. "W-We sincerely apologize, Mr. Ravol! Please forgive our ignorance!"

Yemin remained silent, his gaze unreadable as he watched the scene unfold.

The manager composed himself before turning to Yemin. His tone shifted to pure respect. "Mr. Ravol, please, allow me to personally escort you inside. Your private table is waiting."

Before Yemin could move, Katherine’s mother let out a sharp, mocking laugh.

"Wait just a damn minute!" she snapped, stepping forward, her eyes flashing with anger.

The manager raised a brow but didn’t acknowledge her.

She sneered, flipping her hair over her shoulder. "You’re making a huge mistake siding with this… this pest." Her voice was full of scorn. "Do you even know who he is? He’s nobody! A pathetic excuse of a man who clung to my daughter like a leech!"

She turned to Yemin, her voice dripping with condescension. "No matter what tricks you’re using, you’re still the same worthless househusband who should be thrown out today. You think you can fool these people with your so-called ‘status’? You’re nothing but an imposter."

The entire entrance fell silent. Even the security guards, still bowing, flinched at her boldness.

The manager’s expression darkened.

"Enough," he said coldly.

Before Katherine’s mother could react, he turned to the guards. His voice was like ice.

"Throw her out."

Katherine’s mother’s face twisted in shock. "WHAT?! How dare you!"

"You spineless fool!" she hissed, jabbing a finger at the manager’s chest. "I have a reservation! You have no right to refuse me! And my future son-in-law, James, is a platinum member! He will destroy you! He’ll buy this entire restaurant just to fire you!"

She whirled on Yemin, her voice shrill with rage. "And you! Whatever lies you’ve told them won’t save you! You’re still the same pathetic waste of space who couldn’t even satisfy my daughter!"

The manager’s voice dropped, laced with icy authority. "The Ravol Group and Marcus Chen, the president of the city’s Chamber of Commerce, are currently on the top floor. They’ll be hosting a distinguished guest there.”

He paused, glanced at Yemin cautiously, “ And you—causing this disgraceful scene—have not only disrupted our establishment but risked offending two of the most powerful figures in this city. If you continue making a scene, I will personally revoke James Franx’s membership. Permanently."

A suffocating silence followed.

Katherine’s mother froze. She didn’t know much about Ravol Group or Marcus Chen. But she knew if James lost his membership because of her, he would never forgive her.

The manager turned to the guards. "Escort her out right now. If she resists, call the police and have her arrested for trespassing and disorderly conduct."

The security guards straightened. "Understood, sir."

She blanched. "No… you can’t—"

"I most certainly can," the manager cut her off.

The guards seized her arms. This time, there was no hesitation.

As the guards dragged her out, her arrogance shattered.

The onlookers parted, watching with quiet satisfaction as the doors slammed shut behind her.

The manager turned back to Yemin, smoothing his suit. "Mr. Ravol, I sincerely apologize for this disgraceful incident. Please, allow me to escort you inside personally."

Faye stood up from her table at the museum, her patience finally exhausted after an hour of unanswered calls and growing humiliation. The elegant evening she had anticipated had turned into a nightmare of abandonment and embarrassment."That's it," she announced to herself, gathering her purse and wrap. "I'm done waiting for someone who clearly doesn't give a damn about basic human decency."As she turned toward the museum's exit, a massive figure stepped directly into her path. The man was enormously fat, easily over three hundred pounds, with greasy hair and small, predatory eyes that made her skin crawl."Well, hello there, beautiful," the man said in a voice that sounded like gravel mixed with honey. "I've been watching you all evening, and I have to say, you're absolutely stunning.""Excuse me, I need to get past," Faye replied curtly, trying to step around the enormous obstacle."Now, now, don't be in such a hurry," he continued, moving to block her path again. Faye's worry was rapidly transforming into burning anger as the reality of her situation became clear."He just left me here," she muttered to herself, her voice echoing in the empty hallway. "He actually asked me out on a date and then disappeared without a word."She tried calling again, holding the phone to her ear as it rang endlessly before going to his generic voicemail message. "This is unbelievable! What kind of person does this?"An elderly security guard n

"Without your intervention, Mr. Chen would certainly be dead. We owe you an enormous debt.""Just get him to the hospital and make sure he's properly monitored for the next twenty-four hours. Some exotic poisons can have delayed secondary effects.""We'll take him to Presbyterian immediately. Their toxicology department is the best in the city."As the security team carefully helped Marcus toward the exit, Yemin grabbed the assassin by the arm and pulled her to her feet."You're coming with me," he said firmly. The woman laughed in his face with contemptuous amusement. "You think you've won something here tonight, don't you? You

Yemin pushed through the panicking crowd toward the elderly woman who was cowering against the wall, tears streaming down her face as guests continued to shout accusations at her."Please! I swear I didn't do anything!" the woman sobbed. "I don't even know what you're talking about! I just came here to support the children's hospital!""Let me see your purse," Yemin commanded, snatching the handbag from her trembling hands."Of course! Search everything! I have nothing to hide!"Yemin rifled through the contents and immediately found a small vial filled with clear liquid tucked between her wallet and cosmetics case. The woman's eyes went wide with shock when she saw it."What is that? I've never seen that before in my life! How did that get in my purse?""You're telling me you don't know how this poison ended up in your bag?""Poison? Oh my God, no! I swear on my children's lives, I have never seen that thing before! Someone must have put it there!"Yemin studied the woman's face care

Yemin turned to Patterson and the security team with urgent authority. "I need you to organize all the guests into a single group and start sending them to me one at a time for questioning and search.""Sir, that's going to cause even more protests," Patterson warned. "These people aren't accustomed to being treated like suspects.""I don't care about their comfort levels. Marcus is dying, and his killer is in this room. Start with the people who were closest to the stage during his speech."The poison is too sophisticated for a hospital antidote, Yemin calculated as he watched Marcus's breathing become increasingly labored. But whoever used it would never handle such a deadly contact toxin without carrying the specific antidote."Alright, everyone!" Patterson called out to the crowd. "We need you to form a line for security screening. This is temporary, but necessary for everyone's safety.""Security screening?" exploded a woman in diamonds. "I've never been so insulted in my entire

"He was fine just moments ago!""Is he having a heart attack?" called out another guest. "Someone needs to call an ambulance!""The stress from nearly being crushed must have triggered a cardiac episode!" suggested a hedge fund manager. "That kind of shock could kill a man his age!"Marcus's security team immediately sprang into action, surrounding the stage and preparing to move their employer. The head of security, a large man named Patterson, began coordinating evacuation procedures."Get the car ready for immediate transport to Presbyterian Hospital!" Patterson barked into his radio. "We need the fastest route possible!""Wait!" Yemin commanded with an authority
