William observed the growth he had managed to obtain, he had grown by over five levels since the last time he checked his character status, which was a lot of progress.

Since he unlocked his system, he hadn’t allocated any of the unassigned points. The only time he considered doing so was to increase his luck, but finding that impossible, he forgot about allocating any and instead began stacking them for a time he would need them.

From the words of Osborne, the Mountain of Skulls was several times more dangerous than Darkwood Forest and the feared bridge combined. The Mayhem Skull alone was already enough reason for him to worry.

William had to grasp all the opportunities available to improve himself as soon as possible.

Not wasting any time, he clicked on the unassigned points and a new tab opened.

------

Strength – 55 (+)

Defense – 55 (+)

Agility – 57 (+)

Unassigned points – 18

-----

William observed the floating holographic window with a contemplating expression on his face, wondering how to divide the unassigned points evenly.

This was a crucial decision to be made, he considered the skills in his possession and the only weapon in his arsenal. Agility and strength would be the most important—the faster he swung the sword and the stronger the force behind it, the more effective it would be.

William didn’t really understand how the defense stat worked, but he knew enough not to neglect it.

After a few seconds of further consideration, he began allocating points.

--------

Strength – 63 (+8)

Defense – 58 (+3)

Agility – 64 (+7)

Unassigned points – 0

------

“Hmm… this is good enough,” William observed his new stats and nodded, satisfied. “I just hope it is good enough should a Mayhem Skull really appear.”

William closed his character status and fell asleep a few minutes after.

Time went by swiftly and evening arrived, the sun was still up in the sky but had already lost its scorching component. Its gentle radiance graced the few crew members strolling towards the mountain of skull.

William and Theobald led the walk as usual, while the others followed behind them.

William’s eyes were fixed on the mountain of skull, it appeared bigger and clearer the closer he was to it.

The mountain of skull wasn't that far away and would take at least three hours of uninterrupted strolling to reach it.

"Today’s training was incredible. I feel stronger and more energized after resting, each time I hold my sword, I feel a new and stronger connection with it."

Theobald was a little talkative with William as they strolled together. The captain did not stop talking about the thrilling feeling of getting stronger and how he wishes to continue experiencing it.

He even inquired what William would do once the mission was over. He wanted to know if the hero could remain in their world for a while and impart more of his sword knowledge to him.

Unfortunately, even William did not know how that works.

What happens after he completes his main quest was unknown to him. If he would disappear immediately or stay for some time before returning to earth was a mystery he did not bother to disturb himself with at the moment.

"In your world, are there swordsmen like yourself? What weapon and combat technique is mostly used in your world?"

Theobald continued after William ignored his previous question.

William sighed, talking is a simple task he considers tiresome and useless in most cases, like right now with Theobald. Back in his highschool, he was known as the quiet kid for a reason.

While he would love to be left alone, he also needed something to distract him from the conflicting thoughts driving his head crazy.

"The weapons we employ in my world are too sophisticated and advanced compared to your world. Sword still exists but it is nothing but an ancient weapon and a plaything for kids, only a few ancient clans respect and impart their offspring with the way of the sword." William narrated gently.

Theobald became even more curious hearing his replies and inquired about a description of the weapons.

William unwillingly told him about guns and nuclear weapons strong enough to wipe an entire continent off the map in minutes or even seconds.

The captain was mind-blown by the sheer existence of such a scary weapon. A crazy thought even appeared in his head, he wondered if they could create such a weapon in this world and how effective it would be.

Of course, William ignored the questions regarding that particular thought.

Osborne and King Julian joined in the conversation when it got interesting. Both of them wanted to learn about the hero's world of origin and his past. They asked questions about what his position was in his world, who his parents and childhood was and many others.

The other soldiers also got involved, very soon, they were all discussing while strolling towards the deadly mountain.

Everyone was curious about the hero and his past. The discussions about it made them forget temporarily about their precarious situation.

A gentle and peaceful atmosphere blossomed amongst them as they proceeded towards their destination. A gentle breeze from all corners of the world blew against their faces, an eased feeling washed over the fibre of their being.

Time continued to move swiftly, before they knew it, they were standing at the base of the mountain of skull.

The crew fell into abrupt silence, only the strange, low cacophony of sounds escaping from the mountain could be heard.

Early morning had already arrived over the dark island. The sun shone brightly over the evil island, radiating a strong golden glow and heat. The sun easily permeated the small confinement of the room which only comprised of a few wooden chairs, a bed and a tall wooden cupboard where the previous owner of the room kept their wands and attires.Inside a spacious, dimly-lit room at the dark island, the core members of the two groups could be seen standing around a small desk.Melissa and Peterson brought out a more detailed ancient map of the place and described it to William and Theobald who represented their group. Only two members were allowed to attend the meeting thus both of them were sent."The first three floors are very easy to clear, they comprise mostly of mid-level apprentice wizards with barely enough mana in their mana reserve to cast powerful spells. While they are a little bit stronger than the wizards guarding the fences, they are not that much trouble for a well-traine

The crew ended up spending more than half an hour discussing about the plans to infiltrate the dark tower, how to act within it, how to avoid suspicions, path to follow, and where to find certain important people inside the tower. Most of the explanation was done by Peterson, the trustworthy assassin of Melissa's squad. His information and description were clear and vivid—better than reading it from a map.Melissa and a few members of her squad also added to the information available. As they had been around the tower for several days, their understanding of the place was an important lesson to William and the others.During their discussions, they had to halt several times—either when the surveillance light flashed in their direction or when actual members of the cult walked by.They were able to finish their discussion without drawing that much attention to themselves. After they were done discussing, they began preparing to act on the plans they had just finalized."Here."Melissa

William and the crew, now under disguise, were strolling around. From ahead, a group of Gravemind cultist strolled in their direction. They were about fifteen of them in numbers, each of them stood tall with heights above six feets. A few of them had huge muscular builds similar to Theobald's.Their strides were filled with arrogance, something the other cultist William had slayed lacked.William was the first to notice the oddity of the group marching in their direction, and he couldn't help but frown. Why were they so different from the others? he asked himself.William kept his eyes on the small group as they closed in on each other. His eyes was fixed on that of the biggest one in the ground who, coincidentally, also had his eyes locked with his. They walked in separate groups, each of them moving in different directions, ensuring that all the perimeter of the fence was covered at all times.A small group of three cultists could be seen strolling together while discussing amongst themselves, unaware of the arrival of an unstoppable opponent."I heard the great leader would be arriving tonight," one of them brought up a new conversation."Frederico told me about that a few hours ago, I thought he was lying. So you guys heard the same thing?" The one in the middle replied."Frederico wasn't lying, I overheard two of our superiors discussing about his arrival.""I suspect something important would go down in a few days. The great leader never visits the tower unless for a very important event, could it be that the preparing of the grand ritual has been completed and he is here to finalize it?"The

William and the crew could be seen strolling towards the vast water body with silent and cautious step. At the moment, each of them had a long black fabric covering their head. The black fabric served as a camouflage each time the beam of the light rotated in their direction. As the land was plain and filled with dark sand and skeletal remains, covering themselves in black clothings made them more difficult to detect from afar.Thankfully, this barren land had no sort of abnormalities, not even corrupted creatures that usually raided the night. If there were unlucky enough to have faced anyone, their location would be revealed to the cult once and their entire plan would be ruined."Walk faster! We need to be at the island before morning arrives!"Theobald announced to the others while strolling beside the hero. After the peculiar sensation of passing through the portal faded, William found himself standing in a strange, unfamiliar location."Wow!"The scene before him prompted the hero to exclaim in genuine astonishment.Spread before his eyes was a vast, barren land plunged into darkness and gloom. Only the faint crescent light of the full moon hanging in the sky battled the intense blackness. Not far from his current position, William’s gaze fell on a truly vast, large water body that stretched over a long distance, seemingly unending from his perspective. The hero needed no geography expert to tell him this was Dark Island, the sacred landmark and hideout of the most terrifying dark wizard cult in this dark world. The sound of water calmly flowing could be heard clearly, and the waters were almost visible as they softly reflected the moon."What is that?"A surprised voice muttered behind the hero as its owner’s eyes suddenly and instantly fell upon a mysterious, silhouetted structure ris
