SKILLS Swordmaster Lv 1 INVENTORY --------------- William had played a little bit of videogames at local game shops in the past, thus he was familiar with the meaning and function of several basic components of the system. However, there were a few elements he could not grasp, so he inquired immediately. [ Legacy Order: A unique grading system among legacies. The first level up in this grading system is obtained at level 50. A special set of rewards comes with Order ] "Hmm, I wonder what mine might be. What about the one regarding Blessing?" [ Blessings: Win the grace of a divine being through your actions and receive a blessing, temporary or permanent. These blessings include unique stats, buffs, affinity, skills..ETC ] "Understood." William concluded, yet he remained troubled by his uneven stats. "My agility is twenty percent above the average human and my strength and defense are average, but why the fuck is my luck just 3 points?" Was this the reason why his entire life on earth had been so miserable thus far? Could this be why he always moved from one trouble to another immediately after sorting out the previous one? "That explains it." William sighed. "Doesn't matter now. I can level up and improve my stats gradually." Allowing negativity at this stage of his mission would only hamper his overall planning, so he resolved to think positively about everything. He lay down on the bed and stared at the ceiling as his mind began to wander through a myriad of thoughts. Half an hour after he had laid down, two soldiers knocked on his tent and delivered three scrolls containing the written reports he had requested. William took the scrolls inside, placed them on the desk, sat down, and proceeded to study them with serious focus. The texts on the scrolls were different from any script he had ever set his eyes on, they almost appeared as enigmatic symbols. Normally, he would have been unable to decipher the meaning of these texts, but thanks to Glossa Arcanum, he found that he could read and understand them with ease and without difficulty. While studying the first scroll, his eyes widened slightly. "Grim market day of Muzez Kingdom; the day the evil cults appeared in the most popular market, slaughtered hundreds of people and abducted several dozens. Wow, I never expected the kill count to be this high, those cultists are truly evil." William muttered under his breath as he scanned through the first scroll. It primarily detailed the cult's activities in Muzez Kingdom and specified that the exact number of abducted people reached two thousand. From the information on the first scroll, he also learned that Muzez Kingdom was not the only target of the cult, other territories surrounding the kingdom had likewise faced the same grim fate. The first scroll provided him with all the essential details concerning the kingdom and the abduction. The second scroll contained all the information that the True Wizard organization had gathered concerning Dark Island and the cult group known as Gravemind Orders. According to the scroll, the Gravemind Order is an ancient group that existed for centuries, they had operated silently in the past without incurring the wrath or attention of major kingdoms and military forces. However, everything changed two years ago when they made their first move on Muzez Kingdom and several neighbouring kingdoms. Based on the wizards’ gathered intelligence, the cult was working on a dark project that required living sacrifices, the project could make them stronger, which is why they were unafraid of drawing attention to themselves. The scroll further noted that the cult primarily practiced necromancy, blood magic, demonic magic, and curse magic. "Well, that is strange," William whispered as he continued on to the last scroll, which detailed the journey they had undertaken and the dangers they faced along the way. "Corrupted humans and beast?" was underlined and rendered in larger text than the rest of the page, instantly capturing William's attention. He wondered what exactly these corrupted humans and beast were. But fate was about to grant him a more vivid understanding. He was just about to begin studying the final scroll when loud shouts erupted from outside, a commotion was brewing. "Alert! Those corrupted bastards are attacking again!" "Everyone, brace yourselves! You there, you, and you—protect the king tent." "Someone tell the hero!" "Hey, they're approaching fast!" "Fuck!" The voices rang out loudly. They carried an unmistakable note of terror and deep worry. Before William could fully comprehend what was unfolding, a holographic window suddenly appeared. --------- URGENT QUEST OBJECTIVE: The encampment is under attack, slay the enemies and protect the king. REWARD: 250 EXP PENALTY: -60% likability amongst the soldiers. ------------- "An urgent quest?" He wasn’t expecting it. "Hero, hero! Please come help us!" One soldier dashed into the tent without knocking. William turned toward the intruder with a calm expression, even though he strongly resented the fact that the soldier had entered without knocking. Realizing his error, the soldier offered a small bow and apologized before reiterating the information. "Corrupt humans are attacking the camp, we seek your assistance, please." "I will be outside in a minute," William replied. The soldier bowed his head before dashing out of the tent. "Inventory" William opened his inventory and equipped his sword. [ Basic sword equipped, +2 STRENGTH ] [ Swordmaster Lv1 activated ] A peculiar surge of strength enveloped his body the moment he equipped the sword. "This is my chance to test my strength and prove myself useful." William stepped outside the tent and was immediately met by a heated scene of soldiers brandishing their weapons against what appeared to be other humans. Or rather, creatures bearing a human resemblance. "What the fuck!" William felt genuine terror as his eyes met the appearance of the enemies.

The air was thick and heavy, pressing down like an unseen weight. Every breath burned slightly in the lungs, filled with the foul taste of decay and smoke. The thick white fog rolled endlessly, stretching in every direction until it swallowed the horizon. William moved silently at the front, his boots crunching over shattered glass and damp soil. His grip on the sword was steady, its blade faintly glowing under the dense mist.Behind him, the group followed—Brandon with his rifle slung across his chest, jaw tight with frustration; Anita, the sniper, her sharp eyes scanning the hazy edges even though the fog limited her view to barely ten meters. The air was eerily quiet now, far too quiet compared to the chaos that had consumed the last few hours. The death of Yuan still hung in their chests like a heavy anchor.William hadn’t said a word since they buried what remained of him behind a broken wall near the wrecked helicopter. The man had sacrificed himself to save Anita, pushing her o

Around him, the others gathered with downcast eyes.Brandon clenched his fists tightly. His veins bulged under his skin, his jaw set so hard that it seemed it could crack. The twins stood together, shivering quietly, afraid to look at anyone. The silence dragged on.It was William who finally broke it.“We can’t stay here,” he said, his voice calm but cold. “This fog isn’t still. The fog pulsed again — thick waves of crimson light flickering through it like the heartbeat of some colossal beast. The air grew heavy, almost suffocating. The monsters that had been approaching now burst fully from the haze — grotesque silhouettes twisting in ways that no human body ever could. Their eyes gleamed red, their claws longer, their growls deeper and sharper than before. The whistle came again.A piercing sound that made the air quiver and the ground shake beneath their feet.As it echoed through the ruins, the monsters suddenly jerked violently, their muscles bulging, veins glowing faintly as if molten blood flowed beneath their rotting flesh.“Get ready!” William shouted. Before the words even finished leaving his mouth, the horde rushed forward. The first one leapt through the fog and crashed into Brandon, knocking him backward with force far greater than before. His weapon slipped from his grasp as he slammed into a wrecked car.“Brandon!” Victoria screamed, raising h

The team advanced deeper into the city, boots splashing through puddles of filthy water mixed with blood and ash. The air grew colder the further they went, and the fog seemed to thicken, pressing against their faces like damp, invisible hands. The silence that followed the battle was eerie — not peaceful, but expectant, as though something in the mist was watching.William led the formation again, his sword faintly glowing in the pale haze. His steps were measured, deliberate. The others followed quietly, weapons raised and alert. Every alley they passed was dark and twisted, filled with collapsed cars, shattered glass, and bloodied handprints streaked across walls.“Keep your spacing,” William said in a low voice, scanning their surroundings. “If anything happens, watch for my signal.”Brandon grunted, holding his metal pipe tightly. “You think we’re heading into another swarm?”“Probably,” William replied without looking back. “But something’s different about this place. The helicopter descended slowly, its blades chopping through the dense fog that enveloped the city like a living shroud. The moment the landing skids touched the cracked concrete, a wave of unease rolled through the team. Every gust of wind carried muffled shrieks and growls, echoing from the buildings ahead. The fog was thick, almost swallowing the city whole. Visibility barely extended a few meters, and every shadow seemed to twitch as though it were alive.William stepped down first, his boots crunching on the scattered debris beneath. The cold, damp air smelled of decay and smoke. He took a deep breath, his eyes scanning the murky surroundings with practiced precision.“Stick close,” William said calmly, his voice carrying just enough authority for the others to obey instinctively. “Fog is thick. Visibility is low. Move carefully but keep tight formation.”Brandon and Anita flanked him, weapons raised. Yuan stayed with the aircraft, keeping a steady hand on the controls in case t

The helicopter soared higher into the pale morning sky. Below it stretched a world broken beyond recognition — a graveyard of metal, smoke, and silence.William sat by the window, watching the horizon blur past. From this height, the ruins of the once-living cities looked like scars across the earth. Black smoke still rose from collapsed buildings, and roads were split wide open as though the ground itself had groaned in agony. No matter how many times he looked down, it never felt real. It was as if the whole world had died overnight, leaving only chaos behind.Beside him, Brandon stared through the opposite window, his jaw tight. “Hard to believe this was once home,” he muttered, his deep voice breaking the stillness in the cabin.Anita, seated near the front, adjusted her scope and looked down through it, her sharp eyes scanning the destroyed land. “You can still see them,” she said softly. “The monsters.”William leaned closer to the window.Down below, chaos unfolded like a night
