Chapter 6: Reuniting with the team

Reunited with the team

After resting for a little bit, Charlie got up from the bed of leaves he was lying on and got ready to look for the rest of the team. Even if he can’t meet up with the team, he had to find his tool sack. There are some useful materials he wants to carry with him but nowhere to place them. The white ape's bones, tendons, and internal organs… will fetch a lot of money if they were to be sold at the flame market.

After skinning the alligator, he took the jaw and some other materials, bound it with some raffia ropes, and placed it on his back, holding the other end of the rope in his hand as he walks.

A few minutes after he left, all the other beasts in that territory came out to feast on the leftover from the alligator.

Something had been bothering him ever since he saw the big white ape commit suicide. What’s the driving force behind that move? Is it depressed, or tired of living? What could have happened to it for it to commit suicide without a second thought?

And what is a level 3 awakened beast doing in the middle part of the forest?

“Well, I’ll have to study more about the stumping gorillas when I get back.” Said Charlie as he put the issue at the back of his mind and started looking for his lost sack.

He walked for a few more minutes before he saw his tool sack where he left them. He quickly picked it up, placed the alligator materials inside, and continued on his journey.

“If I was asked how I obtained my power, what should I tell them? The existence of the golden tree is a secret I dare not reveal, lest I be dissected by greedy people for research.” Charlie’s brain was working fast as he searched for what lies to feed the flame totem warriors.

“Maybe should tell them that I saw a dead stumping gorilla on the road and I cut it open to take out the beast Core and absorb the strength?... No… that wouldn’t work…” Charlie was soliloquizing as he walked the lonely path.

He thought and thought for a few more minutes until he finally found a solution. He’ll tell them a half-truth about what happened. He’ll say that when the shadow beast was running after him, it was intercepted by the white ape and they started fighting. He used the opportunity to escape, and when he got to a safe place, he tried to recall what happened and so his power was awakened when he remembered the skill used by the white ape… simple.

But there’s a little problem, how do I explain the flawless avatar?

Charlie quickly summoned the avatar to check, and to his surprise, there was a fire on the white ape's body, albeit it was a small flame that looks like it could be snuffed out by a gentle blow of the wind, it is still a flame. He was overjoyed, but he didn’t have much time to celebrate as he heard clashing sounds from afar.

His heart chanting sounds, followed by a loud bestial roar. He quickly picked up his spear and bag and rushed to the source of those sounds. He had only run for about five minutes when he saw a battered beast running his way.

“It is a small world!” Charlie exclaimed when he saw the beast that was escaping in his way. It was one of the overlord beasts that stole his spoils of war; the flaming lion.

Charlie quickly got into a fighting stance and summoned his totem avatar. He threw his bag to one side and held his spear with both hands as he got ready to fight a beast that was triple his size.

The beast roared as a warning for him to leave the road, lest he got devoured but Charlie didn’t flinch.

The beast jumped at him, but he dodged and used the spear in his hands to attack the flaming lion in mid-air. Seeing that it has no chance of escaping if he didn’t defeat this busybody, the lion steadied itself and attacked with full force. With a swipe of its paw, Charlie was sent flying, and he spotted about two gallons of precious blood while still in mid-air.

The now enraged lion approached Charlie as he planned to finish the job with another strike. It attacked again, but Charlie dodged it this time.

“The beast has gone berserk! we need to help that little kid…” a flame totem warrior exclaimed, but the leader of the group motioned for him to stop talking.

“ever since the first day this kid joined our group, I’ve known that he’s a kid with a high level of potential and his talent needs to be activated through life and death struggles.

So, if you wish to help him. You should let him fight and defeat the beast by himself.” The leader said while watching the battle curiously.

Yes, this group of people is Charlie’s teammates that left him behind. Martial and pondhia were also there with the group, watching the fight anxiously.

Charlie dodged the lion's paw a second time and the flame lion's paw scratched off a large portion of the big tree behind him. He rolled to the side and picked up his wooden spear that was lying in the middle of the road.

The flaming lion jumped again and tried to maul him with its weight but Charlie had already stood up and he was alert. He dodged to the side and gave the flaming lion a powerful kick in its stomach. He didn’t stop there, he followed it in its flight and began stumping on it immediately after the beast landed.

While the fight was ongoing, Charlie unconsciously looked back to see the rest of his team members sitting in a corner, watching him fight as if he was a gladiator. The team leader was even munching on melon seeds.

“Watch out!!”

Someone from the group of spectators suddenly shouted.

Charlie looked back to see the flaming lion pounce on him.
