Katie cursed, digging through her closet to find any old devices she might still have. Clothes were haphazardly tossed aside as she frantically searched for a phone or a laptop. Anything that would allow her to contact the outside world.

She couldn’t believe her mother would confiscate her phone and other devices to keep her from contacting anyone. Hadn’t she seen how much of a monster Cristian was? There was no way he was going to let them live once he got everything he wanted from them. They had to call for help before it was too late.

As she shoved a box aside, she heard something fall out and make a thud sound. A quick look revealed it was an old phone, and she snatched it up triumphantly.

Her relief soon turned to dismay when she realized it wouldn’t turn on no matter what she pressed. The battery must have died after being left unused for so long in her closet. She had to find the charger for it.

Damn it,” she muttered to herself, searching through the box it fell out of.

After finding the charger, she quickly plugged it into her outlet. Then she plugged the charger into the phone. Without wasting a single second, she turned on the phone. The screen flashed, displaying the phone’s logo.

Come on, come on. Hurry up already,” she said to herself, anxiously tapping on the screen.

When the home screen finally popped out, she instantly called the police. However, the call didn’t go through. Confused, she tried again, only to get the same result. She stared at the phone in disbelief.

Why wasn’t the call going through? Even if it were an old phone, it should still work, but the phone refused to work for her.

Stupid phone,” she snarled, ready to throw it at a nearby wall.

Her door abruptly swung open, slamming into the wall. It shocked her so much that she retracted the hand about to throw the phone and held it to her chest as Cristian stared fixedly at her. All the blood drained from her face at the sight of him.

What was he doing there? Wasn’t her mother supposed to be talking to him? How did he know that she was going to call for help?

Cristian stormed towards her, and before she could react, he grabbed her by the neck and slammed her against the wall. The phone in her hands clattered to the floor as he tightened his grip on her neck. He could hear Mrs. Sellers screaming at him to release her daughter, but he ignored the woman.

He was thoroughly annoyed with himself. He had really given Katie too many chances to screw him over. It seemed that he had gotten soft since coming back. Should he just toss her with her father’s corpse or kill her and be done with it?

[So noisy. These humans do nothing except scream.]

Without loosening his grip, Cristian glanced back at Fenrir, who pulled from behind Mrs. Sellers. The wolf looked around with disinterest, its tail lazily wagging back and forth.

[Are we done here? Are we leaving this place now?]

Fenrir’s voice calmed him slightly, though he still didn’t let go of Katie. He had completely lost his cool there. Cristian wanted to blame it on hormones, but he wasn’t a teenager going through puberty.

Keeping his voice neutral, he said, “Give me a good reason to let you live after antagonizing me at every turn. I could just kill all of you and take everything.”

Neither of the women dared to speak. One was because she was afraid to say anything that would set him off. The other simply couldn’t with the hand choking her.

Cristian finally came to a decision and tossed Katie at Mrs. Sellers’ feet and ordered, “Strip her and tie her to the bed.”

It took them several moments to process what he said, and Katie covered her upper body with her arms as she screamed, “Y-you pervert!”

He nearly rolled his eyes as he said, “Don’t worry. I have no interest in something so dirty. I have standards. You’re lucky I’m even giving you another chance even though I distinctly told you before that you only had one more chance.”

Mrs. Sellers hesitantly glanced between her daughter and Cristian, unable to come to a decision. Katie, on the other hand, glared at him with disgust.

I can always toss you back with your father or strip the both of you and throw you to the streets for someone to take advantage of you,” he offered.

This prompted Mrs. Sellers to manhandle her daughter and start stripping her despite Katie’s protest. Cristian looked away, not interested in seeing Katie’s naked body. She had never been his type to begin with, and her naked body wasn’t going to change that. That’s when he noticed Fenrir giving him a strange look.

[Is this some kind of strange courting ritual for humans? You never expressed interest in a mate in your previous life.]

If Cristian had been alone, he would have vehemently denied such accusations. He wasn’t some kind of pervert who got off on such things. He only suggested such a punishment because he knew it would humiliate Katie and soothe his bloodlust. Otherwise, he might have given in and snapped her neck right then and there.

It’s done,” Mrs. Sellers said solemnly.

Cristian looked back and saw that Mrs. Sellers had tied Katie to the bed using a scarf she had grabbed from somewhere. Katie’s naked body was covered with a blanket, and he raised an eyebrow.

Mrs. Sellers kept her head down as she said, “I’ve already done as you asked. Please give her some dignity.”

It’s fine. It’s better this way. I don’t want to dirty my eyes,” he said, waving a hand.

Katie glared at him, which he ignored as Mrs. Sellers tentatively said, “About my husband…”

You should worry about yourselves. Have you considered my offer from before?” he asked, crossing his arms.

Mrs. Sellers glanced at Katie before bowing her head, saying, “Yes, we’ll provide you shelter and anything you want.”

Katie’s knees finally gave out, and she collapsed to the ground. A horrible smell filled the air, and Cristian stepped back to avoid the puddle forming underneath her.“Katie!” Mrs. Sellers rushed forward to her daughter’s side, acting as a shield to protect her daughter. However, he was no longer paying any attention to them. His eyes were drawn to the blue text box that had appeared out of the corner of his vision.[The user has obtained a new ability and can exert an overwhelming presence that can paralyze those weaker than the user.]Cristian stared at the blue text incredulously before looking at Fenrir. The wolf didn’t bat an eye and even yawned at him. He raised an eyebrow and was tempted to ask right then and there if this meant he now had aura. Just thinking about it made him huff in amusement before turning his attention back to the cowering women.Given Katie’s reaction and the text box’s appearance, he had somehow used the power on her. However, it didn’t sound that great

The two women stared anxiously at Cristian, fearing what he intended to do with them. He combed a hand through his hair, berating himself for being softhearted.Cristian had intended only to grab Mrs. Sellers while keeping Mr. Sellers and Katie as hostages. It was the most reasonable option. He needed an adult to get the money, and Mr. Seller hadn’t been a choice from the beginning, as Cristian expected the man to try to save only his own skin. The man would likely choose to abandon his wife and child if it benefited him, but Cristian never expected him to be so ruthless, trying to kill them while trapped in the dimensional space.Just thinking about it enraged him, and Cristian placed Fenrir down as he stood up to kick the couch he had been sitting on. The women screamed and huddled close, refusing to look him in the face.“Stop that. I won’t hit you as long as you don’t try anything funny,” he said, sitting back down onto the armrest of the couch to avoid sitting on Fenrir.“Why sho

Katie sniffled, still feeling the burning sting of her father’s slap on her cheek. She couldn’t believe her father had slapped her. He had never raised a hand against her before. She had always been the apple of his eye, yet he had dared to slap her after she told him everything. If it weren’t for her mother, she was sure that her father would have hit her again.Just thinking about the reason for her father’s anger made her grit her teeth in frustration. The hand not touching her cheek curled into a fist as she imagined strangling Cristian with her bare hands. She was going to make him pay for this humiliation. He was going to regret ever crossing her and her family. Once they got out of this place, she was going to summon her beast like she should have from the start and let it tear him apart. Then she’ll turn that small wolf at his side into a new rug for her mother.“Well, isn’t this an interesting sight. It seems there’s a bit of family trouble going on here.” Cristian’s voice ec

Cristian ducked behind the nearby couch while Fenrir hid under a table to avoid the peacock’s ice attack. The icicles skewered the spot they had been standing before, tearing up the rug. He stared at the collection of large icicles the size of his arm before peeking around the corner of the couch. Mrs. Sellers and Katie appeared behind the peacock with dark expressions.“My rug!” Mrs. Sellers wailed, cupping her cheeks with her hands.“Where’s dad?” Katie asked, scanning the room.He narrowed his eyes as he prepared to pull them into the dimensional space. That’s when a floating blue text box appeared in his vision.[The targets are not within range. Please move closer to the target.]Cristian nearly cursed aloud as he glared daggers at the text. Why was there suddenly a distance restriction? How close did he need to be in order to pull them into the dimensional space?[Targets need to be within three feet of the user in order to be placed in the dimensional space.]Three feet was pre

“We’re here,” Katie said as they stood in front of the driveway to her home.Cristian took a moment to study the place. It was an impressive house with three stories and two fancy cars parked in the driveway. He was certain that the backyard was just as impressive, but it didn’t matter much in the end. What he was after was the money, not the property. Even if he somehow got his hands on the deed, there was no way he could sell it before the apocalypse started.“Before we go in, I want to make something clear,” he said, resting a hand on her shoulder. She shuddered before tentatively asking, “What?”“You are not to let them know about what happened between us. If I see any hint that you might sell me out…” he trailed off, letting her fill in the blank.Katie gritted her teeth and said, “I understand.”“Good. Now ladies first,” he said, indicating for her to go first. She glared at him before walking down the driveway to the front door. Katie rang the doorbell, and the door swung open.
