Katie’s knees finally gave out, and she collapsed to the ground. A horrible smell filled the air, and Cristian stepped back to avoid the puddle forming underneath her.

Katie!” Mrs. Sellers rushed forward to her daughter’s side, acting as a shield to protect her daughter.

However, he was no longer paying any attention to them. His eyes were drawn to the blue text box that had appeared out of the corner of his vision.

[The user has obtained a new ability and can exert an overwhelming presence that can paralyze those weaker than the user.]

Cristian stared at the blue text incredulously before looking at Fenrir. The wolf didn’t bat an eye and even yawned at him. He raised an eyebrow and was tempted to ask right then and there if this meant he now had aura. Just thinking about it made him huff in amusement before turning his attention back to the cowering women.

Given Katie’s reaction and the text box’s appearance, he had somehow used the power on her. However, it didn’t sound that great of an ability. It only worked on those weaker than him, which meant if he faced off against something out of his league, the ability wouldn’t have any effect on it. Also, what did it mean by weaker? What standard was the system using? Was it talking about physical, mental, or emotional?

He shelved those thoughts to the side for the moment and said, “I should send you back to join your father.”

Don’t. We won’t call the police. We’ll help you out. Just don’t send us back there,” Mrs. Sellers pleaded on her knees, uncaring that she was kneeling in the puddle.

Mom,” Katie said, her face twisted in anguish.

This is my last warning. I don’t want to repeat myself again,” Cristian said.

Thank you. Thank you,” Mrs. Sellers said as she bowed her head.

Katie bit her lip, obviously furious by the outcome, but she didn’t dare to say another word. He studied the two women for a few moments before he couldn’t take the smell anymore.

You should clean up. It stinks here,” he said, waving his hand in front of his face.

Mrs. Sellers helped her daughter to her feet and guided her to the bathroom. Katie tried to hide the humiliated look on her face, but he saw it clearly and smirked at her.

She had probably never soiled herself since she was a child, yet in just two days, he had caused her to dirty herself several times. No wonder she kept snapping at him like a wild dog despite knowing what he could do to her. Her pride refused to accept that someone who should be considered a loser could do this to her. He had to seriously crush her spirit before she actually did something crazy.

Cristian decided to check up on Mr. Sellers to see how he was doing and was startled to see the man lying prone on the floor. The man was staring vacantly at the ceiling.

Mr. Sellers?” he prodded.

The man remained motionless and silent. A dark premonition washed over him as he continued to call out to the man, to no avail. Cristian couldn’t even tell if the man was simply ignoring him or was unconscious.

After a moment’s hesitation, he chose to take the risk and pulled the man out of the dimensional space. The man lay on the floor without a single reaction. That’s when Cristian noticed that the man’s chest was still. In an instant, he rushed over to take the man’s pulse, only to find nothing. The man was dead.

What happened? It hadn’t even been that long since he last checked on the man, and there wasn’t anything that could kill Mr. Sellers in the dimensional space. The only way would be to starve to death or die of thirst.

As he studied the man’s corpse, Fenrir hopped off the couch to walk towards Cristian. The wolf didn’t even look at the corpse and pawed at Cristian’s leg.

[What are you doing? I’m hungry. I want to eat some meat.]

He looked away from the body and said, “I’m sure we can find something good for you to eat somewhere in the kitchen. I think I saw some high-quality meat in the fridge.”

[Finally. It’s been so long since I had anything decent to eat. You’ve been making me eat trash.]

Sorry for not being a second-generation heir or someone with immense wealth,” Cristian said dryly before giving Mr. Sellers one last look.

There was no way he could leave the body out there. If Mrs. Sellers or Katie saw it, they would probably go crazy and try to get revenge on him. He hadn’t even done it on purpose. It was a complete accident, but he doubted they would listen or believe a word he said.

That’s when a crazy thought crossed his mind, and he asked Fenrir, “Can you eat this body?”

[Why would I want to eat something so abominable?]

Seeing the disgusted look on Fenrir’s face, he chose to drop the subject. He sent the body back to the dimensional space for the time being until he could figure out a way to dispose of the body.

The corpse absolutely couldn’t stay in the space. Not when he intended to use it to store supplies. He didn’t want the supplies to get contaminated. Besides, he had no use for it anyway. It had no value and would only make his situation even worse.

Cristian led Fenrir back to the kitchen, where he took the meat from the fridge and tossed it to Fenrir. The wolf easily caught it between its teeth and happily tore at it. Blood and fat splattered everywhere as he watched Fenrir enjoy itself. This was the scene that Mrs. Sellers stumbled upon, nearly fainting from the sight.

He barely looked up and said, “You’re back. Where’s Katie?”

Sh-she’s in her room to cool off,” Mrs. Sellers said, desperately looking away from the bloody sight.

Her words made him narrow his eyes, and he said, “Take me to her.”

Wh-why?” the woman stammered, shaking like a leaf.

Do you think I can trust her to be alone? She’s probably trying to contact the police right now,” he said as he stalked towards the woman.

Instead of running away, she bowed her head and said, “She won’t. I promise. I already took all her electronic devices. Please. At least give her some privacy. She’s been through a lot.”

With her head bowed, she couldn’t see the dark expression on his face, nor could she know that she had said the wrong thing. For several moments, he said nothing and just stared down at her. She finally dared to lift her head and was greeted with a sinister smile.

She’s been through a lot, you say. I think I’ll be the judge of that,” he said before storming off to find Katie.

Anything that would allow her to contact the outside world. She couldn’t believe her mother would confiscate her phone and other devices to keep her from contacting anyone. Hadn’t she seen how much of a monster Cristian was? There was no way he was going to let them live once he got everything he wanted from them. They had to call for help before it was too late.As she shoved a box aside, she heard something fall out and make a thud sound. A quick look revealed it was an old phone, and she snatched it up triumphantly. Her relief soon turned to dismay when she realized it wouldn’t turn on no matter what she pressed. The battery must have died after being left unused for so long in her closet. She had to find the charger for it.“Damn it,” she muttered to herself, searching through the box it fell out of.After

The two women stared anxiously at Cristian, fearing what he intended to do with them. He combed a hand through his hair, berating himself for being softhearted.Cristian had intended only to grab Mrs. Sellers while keeping Mr. Sellers and Katie as hostages. It was the most reasonable option. He needed an adult to get the money, and Mr. Seller hadn’t been a choice from the beginning, as Cristian expected the man to try to save only his own skin. The man would likely choose to abandon his wife and child if it benefited him, but Cristian never expected him to be so ruthless, trying to kill them while trapped in the dimensional space.Just thinking about it enraged him, and Cristian placed Fenrir down as he stood up to kick the couch he had been sitting on. The women screamed and huddled close, refusing to look him in the face.“Stop that. I won’t hit you as long as you don’t try anything funny,” he said, sitting back down onto the armrest of the couch to avoid sitting on Fenrir.“Why sho

Katie sniffled, still feeling the burning sting of her father’s slap on her cheek. She couldn’t believe her father had slapped her. He had never raised a hand against her before. She had always been the apple of his eye, yet he had dared to slap her after she told him everything. If it weren’t for her mother, she was sure that her father would have hit her again.Just thinking about the reason for her father’s anger made her grit her teeth in frustration. The hand not touching her cheek curled into a fist as she imagined strangling Cristian with her bare hands. She was going to make him pay for this humiliation. He was going to regret ever crossing her and her family. Once they got out of this place, she was going to summon her beast like she should have from the start and let it tear him apart. Then she’ll turn that small wolf at his side into a new rug for her mother.“Well, isn’t this an interesting sight. It seems there’s a bit of family trouble going on here.” Cristian’s voice ec

Cristian ducked behind the nearby couch while Fenrir hid under a table to avoid the peacock’s ice attack. The icicles skewered the spot they had been standing before, tearing up the rug. He stared at the collection of large icicles the size of his arm before peeking around the corner of the couch. Mrs. Sellers and Katie appeared behind the peacock with dark expressions.“My rug!” Mrs. Sellers wailed, cupping her cheeks with her hands.“Where’s dad?” Katie asked, scanning the room.He narrowed his eyes as he prepared to pull them into the dimensional space. That’s when a floating blue text box appeared in his vision.[The targets are not within range. Please move closer to the target.]Cristian nearly cursed aloud as he glared daggers at the text. Why was there suddenly a distance restriction? How close did he need to be in order to pull them into the dimensional space?[Targets need to be within three feet of the user in order to be placed in the dimensional space.]Three feet was pre

“We’re here,” Katie said as they stood in front of the driveway to her home.Cristian took a moment to study the place. It was an impressive house with three stories and two fancy cars parked in the driveway. He was certain that the backyard was just as impressive, but it didn’t matter much in the end. What he was after was the money, not the property. Even if he somehow got his hands on the deed, there was no way he could sell it before the apocalypse started.“Before we go in, I want to make something clear,” he said, resting a hand on her shoulder. She shuddered before tentatively asking, “What?”“You are not to let them know about what happened between us. If I see any hint that you might sell me out…” he trailed off, letting her fill in the blank.Katie gritted her teeth and said, “I understand.”“Good. Now ladies first,” he said, indicating for her to go first. She glared at him before walking down the driveway to the front door. Katie rang the doorbell, and the door swung open.
