"Pretty good fight you put up." She said, pointing her sword at him.

"What the fuck was that?" He yelled, his arms held up in protest.

She ignored his question, her sword still pointed at him.

"What did you kill them with?" She asked with a serious tone.

"An item I got at the demos. Fangs from scorpo — venom." He replied.

"I've never seen a player do that before. Most have weapons, not this." She said. He was surprised.

"There were players before me? Wait. First, you bail on me after setting me up. Now, you reveal I'm not the first player. What the fuck is wrong with you?" He yelled.

"Did the Dark one send you?" She asked.

"Dark one? What the hell are you talking about?" he wondered.

"You're brainwashed. Sorry, David." She said then struck him.

Immediately, he blocked the attack with his sword. He broke free then jumped back.

"What the hell is wrong with you Colleen?" He asked.

She attacked again, striking at his head, he blocked the attack again and she immediately kicked his belly. Before he could regain his stance, she spun a kick to the back of his skull, causing him to fall forward and she struck her sword against his neck. To her surprise, the sword bounced off his neck and her hand.

"Resistance — 100%." The interface on his mind read. He was surprised.

"Wait." He said to her but she struck him in the side, causing him to fall.

"I don't know how the hell you did that, but I'm not letting you carry out the Dark one's mission." She said.

"Just when I thought you were my guardian Angel." He said, getting up.

"You fucked up." He continued, then charged at her. She also charged at him and delivered a quick punch to him. Upon contact with him, a blue light radiated off his body and she found herself being repelled by a strong force.

"Oh, I can repel kinetic energy. This is cool." David said excitedly. His excitement was cut short by a punch from Colleen to his face, throwing him off balance. She was incredibly strong.

As she made to attack him again, he swept her legs off the floor with a kick, then held her down with his hands.

"Colleen, what the hell is wrong with you?" He asked.

"Leave me alone. You're working with the Dark one." She yelled.

"There's no Dark one, just me." He replied, leaving her. She immediately got up and made a defensive stance.

"You claim to be a player, yet you have venomous fangs stored somewhere in you and your armour glows. These are abilities only the Dark one can gift you." She said.

"Wait, you say there were previous players. They were probably just test running the game and had not added these to player avatars recently." He explained.

"Everything about me has been genuine, one hundred percent, I swear." He added.

She scoffed as he stopped back.

"So, you're really a player?" She asked, unsure of what to make of him.

"Yeah." He replied. She sighed, she did believe him.

"I believe you." She said and stood up.

"Good. Now, why the fuck did you set me up?"

"We'll do our possible best to find him Mr. Hart. Take it easy." The police officer said as he left the house which had now been checked out.

Mr Brett Hart had informed the police about his son's disappearance and and investigation had immediately kicked off.

The police had their usual routine of filing a missing person's report, dusting for prints at the victim's home, checked out all CCTV footage, including the victim's apartment's and found nothing suspicious. Even the doorman didn't see him leave the house. With zero results for their efforts, all they could do was assure the man that they would find his son. After all, it was their duty to do so.

Brett Hart sat in his son's living room, his head between his hands. He was saddened and frustrated. This was a time he wish he had been much closer to his son and not watch him drift away from him.

"Maybe he would not have disappeared." He wondered in despair.

"What do we do?" Sarah said, walking in. She had asked all of her friends and David's, yet none could confirm his location.

"We'll find him, I'm sure of that." Brett said, getting up. He looked on the wall and saw the frame of his wife's picture hung on it. A woman he missed.

"I'll always love you, Jasmine." He said, then walked into the bedroom once more.

He glanced around for anything unusual, but couldn't find a thing. Frustrated, he turned to leave.

"Good. Now, why the fuck did you set me up?" He yelled.

"Was I supposed to help you fight the beast to level up?" Colleen asked in response.

"You could have just told me before leading me into the bar." He groaned.

"And have you chicken out before you face your challenge? Hell no." She responded, laughing.

"You're mean." He grumbled.

"So, who's the Dark lord?" He asked, breaking the growing silence between them as they journeyed.

"Don't bother about it." She dismissed.

"The dark fucking lord." He pressed.

"Okay. He's a mage. He's someone you're to meet later on." She replied.

"You have a history with him." He said. She shot a mean glance at him, then looked ahead.

"Sunset in a bit. You need some rest." She said and turned to the next street.

"And watch you set me up against Mercenaries or armed robbers? Hell no."

"Just shut up. That was a one time thing." She scoffed.

"Will there be more of that in the future?"

"Maybe." She grinned as they proceeded to the next town.

On a far hill stood a giant Wolf. It was watching David and Colleen from afar as they proceeded to the next town.

Hurriedly, it dashed off the hill into the forest, then stopped before a cave. It knelt, morphing into a man. The man walked into the cave and knelt before the darkness in front of him.

"Speak, my servant." A voice rumbled from the cave.

"Dark one. The player is here." He spoke.

"Player one. We await his progress." The Dark one said.

"My Lord, the girl is also with him.…The anomaly." The man added.

"Get them and kill the girl!" The Dark one Roared, causing the cave to tremble.

"Player one, you'll be damned."

  • He knew what he wanted

The sky was bright, the sun radiating glowingly on the earth as beams of gold mixed with the colour of the sand, creating a calm effect. David whizzed through the air, urging forward at top speed. It felt like he had flown for hours without rest, and finally, he stopped, sighting his destination. He touched down, his boots softly sinking inside the desert floor. He looked around, surprised to find the vastness of the desert empty. "What happened to all the bones and destruction?" He wondered, proceeding forward. "Perhaps I landed at the wrong point." He wondered again, looking around. However, he was sure he was at the right spot. The rising point wasn't too distant from where he was, yet he couldn't find the properties that uniquely defined the desert. It just felt like a ghost land which it was. He was frustrated, but kept it to himself. He needed to complete the mission, not burn out his energy throwing tantrums around no one in particular. On his way, he reflected on his last

  • Unfinished business.

"Now that you are responsible for his next mission objective. Tell me child, what will you do? By the way, to make your job easier… or harder, your next mission for him will reward him five levels upon completion. You'll gain access to his history in the game for mission context now. Think fast, you have less than an hour, and Your time starts now." She frowned, her heart felt shattered, heartbroken. Nonetheless, she had to make a decision. But, was she? _ _She shut her eyes, clouded in a river of thoughts to make a decision. She didn't want David to leave her alone, but she also wanted him to achieve his goal. It was hard, now knowing she was responsible for him. Her mind drifted to the system, her fists tightening with anger at the thought of it. It was the catalyst for this, playing her against her will. The fact that she was going to decide and play a part in this just seemed evil, worse, the timeline she had to make that decision. She wondered if she could stall, keep being

  • He's leaving you behind.

Colleen walked into the laboratory, ignoring the row of her friends all inside starting to ease themselves off their recent experience. She didn't bother answering when Dana called, and trudged forward like a zombie. In all honesty, her mind was blank, realising David had truly made up his mind. She proceeded quickly, only stopping when she got to the inner chambers where Audrey lay, recovering from an indecipherable cause of her deep slumber. She slumped into the chair, sighing heavily. Her eyes were shut, and her eyebrows were wet with building tears which she managed to squeeze inside. She sniffled, remembering his words. "I realised this was all a distraction. I have to go home" They stung her deeply like venom stinging one's skin. She hated it, everything that had happened with her. Her whole life was a mess, without purpose, without value. Not a single moment she could call a happy one, until David came into her life. Yet, she ended up being sad again. She wondered if Conra

  • Clarity on all ends.

Ladus was silent, a resonance of sorrow and grief encompassing the town for what it experienced at the moment. Contrary to the generally beautiful setting it once was, its compositions were darker, not evil, but void of joy, brightness, happiness. It seemed like a great tragedy had befallen the town, but it wasn't the case for the residence of the townspeople, they rather lived as they regularly did. The darkness only applied to what the town once was, the exteriors nearer the desert which included Gandu's laboratory, the Doctor's residence and other older structures that came with the dawn of the town. Gandu's laboratory wasn't empty, it was occupied by the gang, including Doctor Enitan who had all returned from what was a terrible day at Aterista. The general mood was gloomy, not one person, not even the comic relief personalities trying to light up the place. Everybody just sat, respectively reminiscing on the massacre at Aterista and how they had barely won the elves, almost los

  • It's over.

Aubrey hovered in the sky beside Tolek, watching them as Tolek raged. The sky rumbled with thunder, an effect of hers following her master's command. "Child, destroy them. Every one of them. Let none live!" Tolek commanded. Like a mindless robot, she sprung towards them with Zeddicus standing in her way. "Audrey." He spoke, but was cut off by a blow from her, crashing him against a tree. The tree cracked with some bones in his body, creating a painful sound that hurt both him and the earth. She did not stop, she pushed further, blitzing towards Colleen. She couldn't react fast enough as an unstoppable force crashed into her, throwing her metres away from the spot she was on, leaving a trail on the earth as she skidded through it. "Audrey, stop." David spoke weakly. She looked at him, then turned, seeing Zeddicus was starting to rise. She made for him, moving at the same speed she did earlier. Before he could react, he felt her palm breeze against his shoulder, and something tackle

  • No More Secrets.

"Well… Brett. Took you long enough to catch up. So, let's talk.… Friend." Bill relaxed on the chair, slumping his back slowly. Brett rose, his skin reddened with anger. He stepped towards the man and stopped, towering above his resting form. The air in the room was tense. Sarah watched with peculiar curiosity while Scar just stood, seemingly interested with the turn of events. He expected it, anything that had to do with Brett wasn't exactly milk and cookies. Brett finally broke the silence that flooded the room. "Why, Bill? Why?" He found himself asking, although he knew the answer already. Yet, he wanted to believe that his friend had other reasons for what he had done. Bill instantly rose, grazing past Brett and stopped on the wall. He placed a palm on the wallpaper design, tracing the spirals bit by bit, then he spoke. "You know what the smallest unit of life is?" He asked, turning to face them. Then he continued, "Data. Raw, untapped and unfiltered data." He paused for a s
