Leveling up in an apocalypse

Dangerous one

The day finally became dark and the villagers began to fall asleep one by one. Some still chose to stay up and keep their guards on incase of any infected person,while some chose to rest after having a very traumatizing day.

"What do you mean power?" Kadori questioned after hearing Bjorn's words. He never expected the bite to make one stronger or powerful.

"I am not sure." Bjorn replied,resting his back on the wooden surface, "Take a look." Bjorn said,lifting up his sleeves,revealing his white fresh wrist. The bite marks and veins that were there ones,disappeared completely.

Kadori grabbed Bjorn's arm to take a closer look,"How?" Kadori asked.

"I guess it's the same super healing as that girl over there." Bjorn replied,pointing at the girl who got bitten earlier. She was already asleep so she didn't notice Bjorn pointing a finger at her.

"Can i borrow that?" Bjorn asked,refering to Kadori's small knife. Kadori handed the knife over to him,confused on why he needed to borrow it.

After retrieving the knife,Bjorn made a small cut on his palm and showed it to Kadori. Glancing at the palm,Kadori could see it healing up,until there was nothing.

"The bite didn't turn me,instead it gave me this ability." Bjorn said, "Although,i am not sure about it,but part of me doesn't feel like the same person i was few hours ago. I feel different."

"What do you mean different?" Kadori inquired.

"I feel stronger,and more alive." Bjorn replied,clenching his fist ,"But please,Kadori,Don't tell anyone just yet."

"But why? If truly you got powers then you might be of great help to us when we encounter those things." Kadori replied.

"I know,i'll tell them when the time is right. For now,let's just keep it a secret. Okay?" Bjorn pleaded. Kadori shrugged his shoulders and turned to sleep.

'Maybe i should get one of those creatures to bite me. Who knows,i might get stronger.' Kadori pondered before shutting his eyes.

The morning sun rose up and the villagers were begining to wake up from their sleep. Kadori also woke up and found Bjorn still on the same spot as last night.

"I couldn't sleep." Bjorn noticed Kadori glaring at him,so he had to explain himself.

The crowd began to murmur and complain of hunger. Most of them has had nothing to eat since yesterday. The few who brought in food refused to share and chose to be selfish with it.

After few minutes of grumble and complains,Uncle Duncan arrived with few more soldiers. The soldiers had baskets full of water,food and medications.

"I know most of you hasn't eaten anything since yesterday!" Uncle Duncan said, "Please manage this for the time being."

The villagers were asked to form a straight line and step foreard one after the other to receive their food.

Due to bullying and pushing,Kadori found himself in the last of the line. His small body couldn't compete with the huge men infront of him.

One by one,the villagers received a loaf of moulded bread and a small cup of water.

"This is what we get?" One of the villagers grumble.

"What the hell is this?!"

"How are we suppose to get filled up with this?!"

The villagers complained to the soldier after receiving the bread. But Uncle Duncan yelled back at them saying they didn't pay the soldiers to help them in the first place.

Finally,it got to Kadori's turn to receive his food.

"Huh? Where's mine?" Kadori asked,looking into the empty basket.

"We counted everyone here and brought the same amount of breads and water,if the basket is empty meaning the served everyone." The soldier replied.

"What do you mean? I haven't gotten anything!" Kadori yelled. In his case,he hasn't eaten anything for two days. The day before the apocalypse,his mother lacked the money to provide food,and the farm grains wasn't out for harvest.

"Or maybe you already ate it and now you are trying to trick us to get another." The soldier replied with an annoyed look,turning around,he left the place.

Kadori shifted his gaze to the crowd,everyone was busy munching their breads. Among the crowd,a plump looking man had two loafs of bread in hands.

"You old bastard!" Kadori shouted,catching the attention of everyone on the ship. He charged forward towards the man,but before he could get close,the man placed tgr two loafs in his mouth and began chomping.

Kadori paused his steps,watching the plump man greedily eating his meal. Rage fulled through Kadori's blood,clenching his fist and punching it out towards the man's face.

Pow!

The sound of flesh meeting flesh reverberated throughout the area as Kadori's fist connected neatly with the man's annoying face. The punch forced the man to spit out the stuffed bread in his mouth as he lands on the wooden floor.

Kadori walked over to the man who was still recovering from the punch,sending out another punch to the man's pot belly.

Blergh!

The man was forced to vomit all he had eaten,followed by an upper cut that lifted him off the floor and tossed him out of the ship.

Help!

The man cried out for help as he fell off the ship and into the river.

Everyone gasped in shock after witnessing the scene that just played out infront of them. How could such young boy be filled with so much anger and rage?.

Uncle Duncan and the soldiers quickly rushed to the location of the incident,unsure of what just happened.

But with everyone's chatteting and gossip,they could tell what had happen.

"Kadori,what have you done?!" Uncle Duncan scolded,standing at the edge of the ship and glancing all the way down to the sea.

"Do you see him?" One of the soldier asked.

"No!" Uncle Duncan replied, "He probably doesn't know how to swim,so he drowned!" Uncle Duncan assumed,stepping away from the edge and walking over to Kadori.

"You need to work on this your anger issues,boy,or we might leave you behind to survive on your own." Uncle Duncan scolded, "We can't risk bringing a heartless beast with us."
