Hssss!

The wolf on Darian’s shoulder kept struggling in fear, scratching and biting wildly as it tried to get free. But it was too late to escape.

The beast now realized it had made a terrible mistake of jumping onto a madman it shouldn’t have even dared to recklessly approach.

Darian’s fingers pushed deeper into the creature’s eye socket, forcing their way in as he tried to crush its brain through sheer force.

“Damn beast! Make it up to me for your miserable mistake,” he growled through gritted teeth. The pain tearing through his shoulder was unbearable, yet his face remained cold, refusing to show a trace of weakness.

Blood rushed down his arm, bathing his body to turn red, but he didn’t stop. The creature let out a final, ear-piercing cry before going still.

A few seconds later, its lifeless body collapsed to the ground.

Darian exhaled slowly, sweat sliding down the side of his face as he tried to calm his pounding heartbeat. He was lucky, if not for his experience in handling such beasts, that wolf would have eaten the flesh off his shoulder and left him bleeding to death.

The shoulder wound was beginning to itch badly. He could already feel the faint movement of poison spreading under his skin. Scor-eye wolves were infamous for their venomous fangs, the kind that could slowly paralyze the body and damage the internal organs within minutes if not treated quickly.

Even so, Darian didn’t allow himself to relax. His instincts screamed at him that danger wasn’t over yet.

He leaped backward just in time, raising his sword as another wolf lunged toward him.

Clang! The sharp sound of metal striking against iron claws rang through the air.

Sparks scattered between them as Darian locked eyes with the beast, his expression turning wild like the beast he was fighting.

“You’re next!” A smirk painted his face since fighting against one wasn't difficult for him. “Get ready to join your mate in the valley of no return!”

Not far away, Alden faced his own difficult battle.

The scor-eye wolf in front of him was fast and vicious, moving like a shadow in the dark, forcing him to roll aside and dodge.

He hit the ground hard but quickly pushed himself up again, breathing heavily. His arms and sides were covered with small cuts and scratches, but he didn’t care.

‘This is not the time for pain,’ he screamed loudly inside his head.

The wolf growled and charged again, its steps shaking the ground.

Alden’s eyes stayed on the furious beast with his hand readily on his waist.

“And here my time comes! It’s now or never again!” He pulled out the dagger hanging at his belt, grabbed it tight and threw it with full force at his target.

The dagger flew through the air at great speed, spinning fast as he used his wind control to boost it.

The power of the wind made it move like a bullet, too fast for the wolf to dodge.

Whizz—Squelch!

This time around the wolf stopped in its tracks as the dagger pierced straight into the wolf’s nose. Blood burst out as the wolf roared in pain, stumbling backward.

The air around it rippled from the strong wind energy still circling the dagger.

Alden’s plan had worked perfectly, the wind not only made the throw faster, but also made the blade sharper.

Without wasting time, Alden rushed forward with his sword thrusting towards the wolf’s neck. His steps were light but fast as he closed in on the wounded wolf.

Seeing a threat to its life, the beast swung its claws in desperation to survive, but its body was already weakening to allow it to do much and its movements were slower now.

Alden’s sword flashed like a streak of light as he drove it into the wolf’s neck with full strength.

The blade met no resistance and tore through cleanly and came out the other side of the neck.

“Alden! Take care of the one on your left. It's almost done for!” Ember’s voice rang out through the chaos, filled with urgency. At the same time, she drew an arrow from her quiver and set it against her bowstring.

Thud!

Near Alden, another dead wolf suddenly flew through the air and heavily landed close to him. Its body didn’t move, indicating it was already gone.

That makes it three wolves down, remaining three more to take out.

That kill came from Zara. She stood a few steps away, her steel whip spinning in the air like a living snake. Each movement of her weapon made it whistle sharply, as if the weapon itself was eager to strike again.

Her cold eyes turned toward Alden. “Sorry for letting that wolf come your way,” she said quietly. Then, after a short pause, she added as if the next word was hard to say, “And… thank you for handling it.”

Alden only nodded with a faint smile, then turned his eyes toward the wolf that Ember was shooting arrows at again and again. While Alden moved to help her, Zara was already heading toward another wolf nearby, her steel whip ready to strike once more.

Storm was doing well on his side. The fight was clearly going his way as he used his clone skill to attack the wolf from different angles, leaving deep wounds all over its body.

Howl!

The wolf cried out loudly, filled with anger and pain as it saw more of its pack members dying at the hands of humans. But what could it do? Nothing. All it could do was fight back desperately and try not to fall next.

Storm definitely didn't give it the chance to retreat, skillfully using every opportunity to cast bloody strikes at the beast with his saber.

Thud!

Another loud thud, a confirmation of the death of another beast in the hands of Darian. Bringing it down to two remaining.

“WE ALL HAVE TO BE QUICK HERE OR WE RISK GETTING SURROUNDED AGAIN!”

Darian’s voice rang loudly in the ears of everybody.

“THIS TIME, THERE ARE MANY OF THEM COMING FROM ALL SIDES!” he yelled again. “I CAN FEEL THE GROUND SHAKING! THEY’RE ALREADY CLOSE!”

And right after he spoke, the ground began to tremble for real. The vibration grew stronger with each passing second, like an earthquake about to start.

Something big was definitely coming.
