The Jade’s Secret

DONG!

DONG!

DONG!

The ancient bronze bell atop the Ancestral Peak did not merely ring; it screamed. The sound waves rippled across the mountain range, shattering the clouds and causing the spiritual energy in the atmosphere to churn like a violent storm. It was a sound that had not been heard in twelve hundred years.

Across the Heavenly Sword Sect, thousands of disciples bolted from their meditation chambers, their faces pale with confusion. In the lower valleys, spiritual beasts panicked, stampeding through the forests.

Above the inner city, a dozen streaks of brilliant light pierced the sky as core elders broke through seclusion, rushing toward the Hall of Ancestral Records. At the front of the vanguard flew the Sect Master, his grand robes billowing, his expression more terrified than anyone had ever seen it.

Inside the deepest, most heavily guarded vault of the sect, a massive stone pedestal was violently vibrating.

This pedestal had once housed the Heaven-Breaking Jade, the absolute foundation of the sect's authority. For three long years, since the day the Jade mysteriously vanished from the locked vault, the pedestal had remained empty, cold, and dead.

Now, ancient golden runes were blazing across its surface, burning so bright they scorched the surrounding stone walls.

“The Jade… it’s reacting!” Grand Elder Wu’s voice shook as he crossed the threshold, his previous arrogance entirely gone, replaced by a cold dread.

“Impossible!” another elder hissed, staring at the blinding light. “The thief suppressed it for three years. Why would it suddenly awaken today? Unless…”

The Sect Master landed at the center of the vault, his eyes locking onto the pulsing runes. A dangerous, nauseating thought suddenly took root in his mind. He turned his gaze slowly toward the back of the mountain, looking toward the distant, fog-shrouded mouth of the Abyss of Ten Thousand Graves.

“The boy,” the Sect Master whispered, the words catching in his throat.

Silence fell over the vault. It was a suffocating, petrified silence.

Li Tian. The worthless disciple they had just beaten, broken, and cast into the forbidden pit less than an hour ago.

Grand Elder Wu immediately stumbled backward, a cold sweat breaking out across his forehead. “No… No, that is impossible! Nobody survives the fall! His dantian was shattered by my own hand! He should be a corpse rotting at the bottom of the world!”

But Wu knew a secret that he would carry to his grave. Three years ago, it was he who had secretly breached the vault. It was he who had tried to forcefully refine the Heaven-Breaking Jade to break through his own cultivation bottleneck. The Jade had violently rejected him, burning his meridians before vanishing into thin air. He had framed Li Tian today simply to close the investigation and protect his own skin.

He had assumed the Jade had flown away, hiding somewhere in the mortal world.

He never could have guessed the truth. The Jade hadn't fled the sect. It had chosen a new master. It had sealed itself inside the soul of the very boy he had just sent to his death.

BOOM!

Before any elder could speak another word, the ancient stone pedestal violently exploded into a million fragments. A pillar of holy, golden light shot straight through the roof of the vault, piercing the heavens and illuminating the night sky for ten thousand miles.

Within that blinding light, ancient characters formed in midair, burning with a cosmic intent.

The message read: 【THE TRUE HEIR HAS AWAKENED.】

The Sect Master’s breathing completely stopped. The ancient prophecies left behind by the founder were absolute. Only one person could ever awaken the Jade—the chosen successor of the bloodline. Whoever held it was destined to inherit the founder's entire legacy and rule the immortal cultivation world.

The Heavenly Sword Sect hadn't just executed a thief. They had just thrown their prophesied god into the mouth of hell.

Meanwhile, deep beneath the world, inside the ancient Palace of the Dead.

Li Tian knelt on the black obsidian floor, his body arching in agony as the holy golden light of the Jade clashed violently with the pitch-black void of his newly formed Death Core. The two energies—one representing absolute celestial righteousness, the other representing absolute primordial death—were tearing his meridians apart as they fought for dominance.

Then, a voice echoed in his mind. It was not the mechanical tone of a machine, but a cold, clear, and world-ending voice.

[HEIR CONFIRMED.]

Li Tian’s eyes snapped open.

The golden light before him condensed, slowly taking the shape of a phantom figure. The man wore simple, flowing robes, his appearance slightly blurry like a ghost trapped between dimensions. Yet, the pure, unadulterated sword intent radiating from his form was so sharp that the surrounding brick walls began to develop deep, clean cuts just from his presence.

Li Tian forced himself to his feet, ignoring the burning in his chest. “Who are you?”

The phantom turned, his gaze locking onto Li Tian. For a long, heavy moment, neither spoke. Then, the phantom let out a soft chuckle. “A question I have not been asked in twelve thousand years.”

Li Tian frowned, his hand instinctively curling into a fist. “Answer me.”

The figure raised a single finger, and the air hummed with a terrifying pitch. “I am Jian Wudi.”

The name hit Li Tian like a physical blow. Every child in the Eastern Continent knew that name. Jian Wudi—the legendary founder of the Heavenly Sword Sect, the strongest sword cultivator in recorded history, the man who had conquered the nine heavens before vanishing into legend.

“You’re dead,” Li Tian said, his voice tense. “And your sect… the sect you built… just destroyed my life.”

Jian Wudi’s phantom form flickered. “Tell me what happened, boy.”

With a voice dripping with venom, Li Tian laid it all bare. He told him about the ten years of loyalty, the frozen borders of the Northern Wastes, the missing Jade, the absolute betrayal of his brother Zhao Feng, and the corrupt judgment of the elders who threw him into this pit.

As the last words left Li Tian's mouth, the temperature in the grand tomb plummeted to absolute zero. The green rivers of yin energy froze solid.

Jian Wudi’s blurry face twisted into an expression of pure, unbridled fury. The very sect he had founded to protect the righteous path had become a den of vipers and cowards. The phantom began to fluctuate violently, a world-ending sword aura erupting from his chest.

Then, the legendary founder laughed. It was a cold, hollow laugh that echoed off the stone pillars.

“Good,” Jian Wudi smiled, his eyes flashing with a sharp, murderous light. “Very good. If they have forgotten my laws, then you owe them absolutely nothing. Break them, boy. Tear my sect to the ground.”

Before Li Tian could even process the founder's blessing—

ROOOOOOAR!

A monstrous, cataclysmic roar suddenly echoed from the deepest depths of the abyss. The sound was so immense that the colossal black pillars of the palace began to crack, sending a shower of heavy stone and dust raining down from the high ceiling.

For the first time, Jian Wudi’s expression changed.

The legendary, invincible sword god looked up, and his phantom eyes widened with an emotion Li Tian never expected to see on a powerhouse of his level.

Fear.

“What is that?” Li Tian demanded, his newly formed Death Core spinning wildly as an oppressive, suffocating pressure flooded the palace gates.

“Trouble,” the founder hissed, his voice turning deadly serious. “Something that should have remained buried until the end of time.”

Another roar erupted, much closer this time. The massive, reinforced obsidian gates of the palace—gates built to withstand the assault of armies—began to buckle inward under an immense, unseen weight.

BOOM!

The gates exploded into a million shards of sharp shrapnel.

Through the dust, a gigantic claw smashed into the entryway, reducing the heavy architecture to rubble. The claw alone was larger than a mountain, covered in thick, light-absorbing black scales. Between those scales, ancient crimson runes glowed with an ominous, dying light.

And wrapped tightly around the wrist of that monstrous claw was a massive, broken chain. The links stretched endlessly back into the absolute darkness of the abyss, as though the creature had once been imprisoned by the gods themselves.

CRACK!

The massive chain suddenly snapped, shattering into fragments of divine iron. The beast lunged forward, its mountain-sized maw opening to reveal rows of jagged teeth that could swallow a city.

“The World Devourer has awakened,” Jian Wudi shouted, his phantom form fading as the creature’s aura suppressed his spiritual energy. “You cannot fight this, boy! Run!”

Li Tian was pinned to the floor by the creature's gravity. He couldn't move. He couldn't breathe. His Death Core was screaming. Death was inches from his face.

But at that exact, final second, a strange, mechanical chime rang directly inside his skull, drowning out the beast's roar.
