Chapter 4

Seeing this, Charles couldn't contain himself. His jaw clenched and his teeth ground together. "This can't happen!" he shouted loudly, glaring at Lyra. "Lyra, you must marry me."

This was an insult to Charles. How could Lyra openly refuse to marry him and even consider marrying a man as impoverished as Ludwig?

Lyra glared at Charles. She shook her head firmly. "Didn't I tell you I don't want to marry you?" Lyra bravely stood beside Ludwig. "I've waited five years to fulfill my promise to my grandfather."

"I will only marry Ludwig Harold." Lyra emphasized her decision. Nothing could change her decision.

Charles was filled with anger. In his heart, he swore he would avenge Lyra's humiliation if she became his wife. He would never forget this insult. Choosing a poorer man would certainly hurt his pride.

Charles's gaze immediately fell on Hanry. He was Charles's only hope of remaining married to Lyra.

Even though Lyra had deeply hurt him, he couldn't deny that she was a beautiful and perfect woman. Furthermore, he knew that she was intelligent, so he could use her in his company later.

"I don't care about stupid agreements I don't know about, Mr. Hanry. But don't forget that the Winter family needs a lot of money to support your company." Charles pressed his words angrily.

His gaze was filled with menace. He knew Hanry would be weak under the threat. He even knew that the only person Hanry could rely on was him. "Don't forget that I helped you. It will always be like that."

Charles approached Hanry. His gaze was sharp. "You promised your daughter to marry me." He paused, his sharp gaze glaring at Lyra in annoyance. "But look at your shameless daughter."

Lyra was filled with fear at Charles's shout. But she knew that Charles wasn't a good man. Even though Lyra knew about the help, marrying him wasn't the right decision.

Lyra shook her head. "I won't marry a man who secretly impregnates women."

Everyone was immediately shocked by Lyra's statement. Eyes immediately turned to Charles.

Charles became very nervous. He was also shocked, not expecting Lyra to find out. But the man quickly denied it. "That's not true."

Before anyone could judge him with bad words, Charles shouted back at Henry. "Look at your shameless daughter. She even accused me of false accusations."

"I don't want to know. You must do as we agreed. I have helped you and will give back to your company, so Lyra and I will get married." Charles emphasized his statement. "Mr. Henry, you know I never play around with my words."

Henry became nervous. He knew that Lyra had long been looking forward to her marriage agreement with Ludwig. But giving Ludwig the chance to become the Winter family's son-in-law wasn't her intention.

Ludwig was just a common soldier who couldn't offer anything worth celebrating. Even Hanry didn't know about Lyra's foolish decision.

"Stop this. You can't marry Ludwig, or you'll only be poor."

"He won't be able to provide you with luxuries." Hanry tried to provoke Lyra. "If you marry Charles, then I'll be the mistress of the White family. That would be much happier for you."

Once again, Lyra shook her head. "No, Father. I'll only marry Ludwig. Charles isn't a good man." She objected.

Hanry grew increasingly irritated. "How could you be so stupid? He's just a common soldier. Do you want to suffer for the rest of your life?"

Lyra already knew, and she didn't care. She wouldn't change her mind. "I promised my grandfather. I'll marry Ludwig."

Charles couldn't hold it in anymore. Anger grew in his fiery eyes. "If your daughter doesn't want to marry me, then give me back my $10 million."

Hearing that, Lyra was shocked. She stared at her father in disbelief. She was deeply disappointed. She even felt like her father had sold her out. "How could you do this, Dad?"

Lyra had never suspected that her father had secretly planned the wedding just for $10 million. And now, Lyra understood why her family had been pressuring her to marry Charles. Now everything made sense.

Looking at Henry's panic, Charles smiled triumphantly. Then, he looked at Lyra arrogantly. "Only I can help your family's company, and that man won't be able to. I'm not even sure he can come up with $100,000."

Charles puffed out his chest arrogantly. "The only person who can save the Winter family is me," he boasted.

"You must marry me, or your family will have to return my 10 million dollars," Charles stated firmly.

Charles was now standing in front of Hanry. He put his hands on his hips. "So, can you give me the 10 million dollars now?"

Hanry froze. 10 million dollars was a huge sum of money. With the Winter family company in shambles, Hanry wouldn't be able to return it just like that. Otherwise, everything he had left would be lost.

Charles laughed loudly. He turned to look at Lyra. "Look, your father can't even return the money."

"There's no other choice but for you to marry me, honey." Charles stroked his chin, showing a clear interest in Lyra.

Lyra couldn't lie to herself that this was very painful for her. She had even been caught in her own family's game. She was almost giving up.

Once again, Charles laughed even harder. "Why are you so quiet? Weren't you screaming so loudly earlier, rejecting me?" He glanced at Ludwig. "Even the man beside you can't do anything."

Charles extended his hand to Lyra. "Come here, darling. There's no other choice but to marry me. I'll guarantee you'll have a life bathed in money."

Charles prepared to take Lyra's hand triumphantly. But suddenly, Ludwig slapped Charles's hand away, refusing to let him touch her.

Charles glared at Ludwig angrily. His eyes were once again filled with fire. "Damn it, how dare your filthy hands push my hand away!" Charles's body trembled with emotion.

"I'll pay you back the money! Double it!" Ludwig declared firmly, shocking everyone.
