Chapter 5

Everyone looked at Ludwig in disbelief. Even Harry who was there immediately laughed loudly.

Ludwig's words made absolutely no sense. How could someone who had fallen into poverty and was just an ordinary soldier afford 10 million dollars. In fact, everyone heard that if Ludwig shouted loudly it would cost him twice as much. That is unreasonable.

“Have you lost your mind?” Harry couldn't help himself. Even the Winter family didn't have that much money. So how could Ludwig say it so confidently?

Meanwhile, Ludwig only showed a flat facial expression. No one knew that Ludwig's wealth could not even be imagined by them.

They only knew that Harold's family's house had burned down, and thought that Harold's family had fallen into poverty. But no one knew that the wealth owned by the Harold family was much greater than they thought. Even the wealth obtained by Ludwig was extraordinary.

However, Ludwig didn't want to explain it to everyone there.

The purpose of his visit was simply to fulfill his father's promise to marry the Winter family's daughter. Therefore, Lyra's approval was crucial to him.

But this time, Ludwig wanted to confirm it once more. He looked at Lyra, her expression filled with panic.

Lyra silently stared at Ludwig with doubt. Just as her father had said before, if she had only heard that Ludwig was just a common soldier, how could he possibly repay the money?

Lyra almost lost faith in her marriage to Ludwig. Her heart began to throb.

"Lyra, do you really want to marry me to fulfill the promise you made?" Ludwig looked at her very seriously.

Lyra nodded her head. "Of course I want to marry you. But—" Lyra couldn't even answer.

Lyra's answer was enough for Ludwig. Not even 10 million dollars, or 20 million dollars, meant anything to Ludwig. And as for the Winter family's disapproval, Ludwig didn't care.

"Okay, we'll get married soon."

Charles stood with his fists clenched. Today was supposed to be his engagement day with Lyra. But that foolish woman had humiliated him by rejecting him and choosing that poor man.

"Marriage?" Charles said loudly. She shook her head. Her eagle gaze pierced Ludwig. "You say that with confidence. Can you return the money?"

Charles patted his chest hard. "I've already spent 10 million dollars to help the Winter family. And I don't want to lose it just like that. If you want to marry Lyra, then you have to return it."

Charles was now smiling confidently. He was certain that Ludwig wouldn't be able to return it. He even knew that Ludwig was just trying to sound convincing. In reality, everyone knew that his family was destroyed. And he was just a common soldier with nothing.

Meanwhile, Ludwig remained standing calmly. He didn't immediately back down, as everyone expected. "I'll return your money," he emphasized again.

Everyone laughed at Ludwig's foolishness.

"Does he think everyone will believe him?"

"I think he's crazy. Doesn't he know how much $10 million is?"

Ludwig ignored all the negative comments. He picked up his cell phone and immediately called James. "I want you to come immediately and bring $20 million."

James nodded. He spoke into the phone, "General, I'm still on the way."

"I'm only giving you 10 minutes. You must be there on time." Without waiting for a response, Ludwig immediately hung up.

Once again, Henry was disgusted by Ludwig's behavior. "I think he's completely crazy."

Charles couldn't hold back his laughter. "Look, he's acting like a leader. I don't know who he's pretending to be on the phone with."

Charles's expression turned sterner. The veins on his face grew tense. "Don't try to play tricks on us. Are you secretly thinking of a way to escape?"

Ludwig calmly stared at the clock. “Eight minutes left.” He said expressionlessly.

“Why should we waste time trusting this man? Mr. Hanry, you should kick him out immediately. I think he’s truly insane!” One of the guests shouted loudly. “His soul has been shaken by his poverty.”

Hanry considered the man’s words. In fact, he made sense. “Yes, call security. He must be dragged out of here immediately.”

Ludwig watched Hanry with a hawkish gaze. He thought about his father, and knowing that his father had helped the despicable Winter family was truly painful.

“Wait!” Charles raised his hand and stopped Hanry.

“Let me teach him a lesson before he’s thrown out of here.” Charles began to remove his white coat and roll up his shirt sleeves.

Ludwig looked back at the clock. “Five minutes left. You’ll get your money soon,” Ludwig emphasized.

Charles was utterly disgusted. He knew the man was just trying to stall for time.

He stared at Ludwig fearlessly. He knew that if Ludwig were just a regular soldier, he would naturally possess only modest strength. He was confident he could defeat him easily.

"Before you can trick me with your dirty tricks, I'll teach you a valuable lesson. I'll cripple you."

Charles looked at Hanry. "Uncle, block all exits. Don't let this man take Lyra away so easily. We need to be on high alert."

Ludwig looked at him calmly. "Why are you so panicked? Didn't I say you'd get your money soon?" He raised an eyebrow. "I'm not going anywhere. So save your energy."

No one believed Ludwig's words. Even Lyra couldn't deny that she had doubts in her heart. But she fervently hoped that Ludwig would take her away and marry her.

Charles puffed out his chest. "Why? Are you afraid to face me?" The man laughed loudly. “I will never forgive you for trying to deceive us all.”

Charles secretly had a good idea. He smiled slyly. “It would be best if you apologize and leave now. Perhaps I will consider a lighter punishment for you.”

He pointed one foot at Ludwig. “You must apologize and kneel at my feet.”

Ludwig's gaze was sharp. “Before that happens, you should be the one prostrating yourself at my feet.”

Charles' face flushed red. His body trembled with anger. “Damn it. You—how dare you say that! Don't you know who I am?”

Ludwig just sighed quietly. “Of course I know, aren't you a burden to the White family?”

Everyone was shocked by Ludwig's words.
