Chapter 8

Everyone was filled with shock. Charles immediately approached Robert, staring at him sharply. “Are you kidding? Have you confirmed this?” Charles emphasized his statement.

Knowing that Ludwig and his friend had arrived with 20 million dollars was absolutely impossible.

Robert nodded his head. His face was filled with conviction. “I'm telling the truth. All this money is real.”

Hanry approached as well. “Check again. I'm sure you've made a mistake.”

Robert shook his head. He sighed. “Don't you believe me, Mr. Winter? I've been a bank manager for 10 years; of course I know all this money is real. And of course I didn't make a mistake.”

Hanry and Charles looked at each other. They simply couldn't believe it.

Truthfully, Charles didn't really want the 10 million dollars back. He just wanted to marry Lyra. He believed that if he could marry Lyra, he could reap far greater benefits than that.

But he wouldn't just get 10 million dollars. Ludwig really was giving him 20 million dollars, just like he said.

Charles continued to stare at him. He looked at Ludwig and James alternately. It was impossible, under the current circumstances, for them to have that much money. They were just ordinary soldiers.

This time, Charles looked at them suspiciously. "Where did you get that money?"

"Did you steal it from someone?" Charles began to press.

Ludwig exhaled. His gaze remained calm, yet domineering. "I've never stolen from anyone. And isn't that enough for you?"

"I'm not just returning 10 million dollars. I'm returning 20 million dollars," Ludwig emphasized. "Don't forget what you said earlier." His gaze immediately shifted between Charles and Henry.

Both of them were shocked when Ludwig reminded them. They froze.

Prostrating themselves at Ludwig's feet was an insult to them. Especially when they knew Ludwig wasn't a nobody.

"How dare you say that!" He cried, pointing at Ludwig's face. "I won't do it!"

Several people there exchanged glances. They were clearly displeased with Hanry's words.

"But you even said that to Ludwig. You should have done it immediately."

"Yes, Ludwig really did give the money. And at least you didn't break your promise."

"Hurry up and prostrate yourself."

Some people started talking a lot. Charles and Hanry were truly desperate. They could only stand still. Of course, they didn't want to do that, or it would seriously hurt their pride.

Charles shook his head firmly. "No. I won't do that!" he shouted. Anger was evident on his flushed face.

Ludwig grinned faintly. “Yes, of course I know the White family’s qualities. They don’t really keep their promises.” He pointed at him.

Charles clenched his fists. “How dare you say that, damn it!”

Ludwig’s face was stern. His hands, still in his pockets, were domineering. “Do it now, or everyone will think badly of you.”

Charles swallowed. “I don’t care. Now, give me the money.” He held his hands out before Ludwig shamelessly.

James closed the suitcase again. “I’ll only give it to you after you do as you said. Kneel down and apologize to Mr. Ludwig.”

Charles immediately laughed when he heard James call Ludwig “sir.” It didn’t sound quite right to Ludwig.

“Come on, don’t try to play tricks on me. Give me the money now, or you won’t be able to marry Lyra.”

Lyra became very upset. “I’ll never marry you.” Lyra moved closer to Ludwig and held his hand tightly. “I will only marry Ludwig.”

"Mr. Charles, it would be best if you did as you said before. After all, Ludwig really did give you the money."

"You should be ashamed. Ludwig not only gave you $10 million of your money, but he even kept his promise by giving you $20 million!" one of the guests shouted provocatively.

"You even have a $10 million advantage."

Everyone agreed and pressed Charles and Henry even harder.

Charles clenched his fists. But then, he considered their words. He already had a $10 million advantage over Ludwig. "Do I have to lower my dignity and kneel? Damn it. I'm trapped."

"No. I won't do that! Give me the money now and let me go. Then my relationship with this family is over," Charles said loudly. He hoped Ludwig would give him the money immediately.

"We won't let you go so easily," someone shouted loudly.

Some people even began to surround the place, completely preventing Charles from leaving. He didn't even know when everyone had abandoned him and sided with Ludwig.

This time, Charles truly felt trapped. He couldn't even fight Ludwig. His entire body still ached excruciatingly. The only way out was to kneel to Ludwig. Then, at least, he would get the 20 million dollars.

Furious, he was forced to do so. He knelt before Ludwig along with Harry. But he swore in his heart that he would never forgive Ludwig after this.

Hanry, meanwhile, glanced at his daughter angrily. He swore he would never let Lyra marry Ludwig.

They both bowed their heads at Ludwig's feet. After a moment, Ludwig moved back, allowing both men to stand back up.

Ludwig motioned for James to give the money to Charles. The man accepted it reluctantly.

Thinking everything was over, Ludwig grabbed Lyra's hand tightly. "Let's go."

"Wait!" Hanry stood, blocking their path. He put his hands on his hips, his face tense. "You're not marrying Ludwig!"

"He's even made me lose my self-esteem. How could you even think about marrying him?" Hanry pressed his question to Lyra.

"Father, not only was this marriage arranged five years ago, but Ludwig even gave Charles 20 million dollars. You shouldn't have forgotten that." Lyra tried to remind her father everything.

"I don't care. I won't let you marry that bastard! He'll never be part of the Winter family," Hanry said firmly. "Besides, I'm sure he committed a bank robbery."

"I'll make sure he's caught soon," Hanry threatened Ludwig. "Your crimes will soon be exposed." His gaze was fixed on Ludwig.

This time, Hanry looked at his daughter. "You'll soon be abandoned by Ludwig, because soon, he'll rot in prison."

Lyra looked at Ludwig with worry. Although she didn't know where Ludwig got all that money, she was sure he would never commit theft.

Lyra didn't let go of Ludwig's hand. "Father, I'm still marrying Ludwig." Lyra looked at Ludwig. "Let's go."

Hanry couldn't stand hearing Lyra choose Ludwig. He stared at Lyra and Ludwig as they passed him. "One more step, and you're no longer part of the Winter family!”
