Alex closed the book instantly; there was no longer time for delay.He looked at it carefully and placed it into his space. There was no way he would let some rotten people get their hands on his father's work and that precious plant.“I can't just leave the plant here. This is the Outer Region. It's dangerous here, and I'd need it.”He walked out of the dimly lit building and stepped closer to the plant. CHAPTER 16: A SECRET WITHIN
The moment his foot touched the ground, the sound resounded in the ears of the crawlers around and they turned around, but they still didn’t move.Alex jumped over fallen debris, landing with a loud thud, and that was when the crawlers snarled and chased.They knew there was something unwanted in their territory.Not looking back, Alex kept running straight. CHAPTER 15: GRACE SPEAKS LOUDER THAN LUCK
Alex opened the door of the room, and he looked at his sides, there was nothing there, but he couldn’t lower his guard yet.“Activate God-eyes.” Alex muttered and his x-ray vision appeared, and the wall vanished before his eyes, he moved, and kept looking. He couldn’t sense any heat signals which meant the creature must have disappeared. “I could cure him.” Alex muttered to himself, but he shook his head in the next moment. To cure that beast, he would need to subdue it. He sighed. This was another reason he had to get stronger.Dominator couldn’t work on such a strong beast. Therefore, strength was his only option. Soon enough, Alex stepped out of the building into fresh air. He was cautious, knowing that the slightest mistake could lead to him being torn about by a wild crowd.Taking to his heels, Alex moved away from the building. CHAPTER 14: NAMING THE SYSTEM
Alex’s eyes brightened up, this system was gold but he didn’t know why it was given to someone like him.“I don’t deserve this.” Alex said, clenching his fists. He was worthless, and he couldn’t even save his own mother. “Now you have another chance” An unfamiliar voice echoed in Alex’s ears, and he turned around, thinking someone had spoken behind him. Seeing no one, Alex had an inkling of what could have happened. “System?” He muttered.The voice came again in a clearer tone. “You have the chance to save another person. There’s no luxury of waiting anymore.”A refreshing feeling came over Alex, and he nodded. This had to be part of the system upgrade, and he couldn’t help but wonder if there would be any more upgrades in the future. “Yes, there would be future upgrades.” The system answered. Alex nodded, “What can I call you?” He asked the voice.“I can only be named by the host.” The voice replied back. Now he had something to think about, he needed to name the system.“Aura.”
CHAPTER 13: FINDING MORE SUPPLIES
“If there's one of these infected here, then there's probably more around the corner?" he thought to himself as he raced through the outpost. "I have to get out of here but not with that thing after me." he thought, "Maybe I can slow it down."He looked both left and right trying to see what he can and can't grab. There were boxes, different unusable items that his visual came in contact with. He doesn't hesitate for a split second and swiftly takes them one after the other and hurls it back at the infected. Alex made a few perfect strikes, knocking the infected back. He saw it, its movements and focus had dwindled a bit but not for long. He came straight back to the exit he had arrived through and tried to burst his way out. However, the door didn't budge open. Why did it have to be now?All of the sudden, the door had become a major problem.He shifted his gaze back to the stair, loud deafening shrills escaped the upper region. Alex stood with his hand running across his hair. Jake and Lois had already left with Jake, leaving him alone in the room.He gave a tired breath before he headed out of the scavenger camp. He was able to find his way out using the map directions.Just as he made it to the gate, he paused for a moment and remembered Lois' words, it played just like a tape and it strengthened his resolve to prove his capability. He walked out without looking back, his gaze locked on the map as he searched for a potential location to begin his digging. “Two days, or your friend dies.” It came again and he couldn't shake off the feeling.
