The look in the old man's eyes was rather confusing. Then his wrinkled face shifted to a smile.

"You will know soon enough...that sometimes the things we see are not what it seems like." He said quietly. He rested his back on the car seat. George stared at him for a moment,

"He knows something that I don't.." his thought said inwardly,

"So.....Whitemore.....how rich is Whitemore?" George was throwing off his gaze at the window. He noticed they had driven past a gate and the serenity looked heavenly, it was night but he could see the beauty of the greenery.

"Rich? That's an insult.." the old man scoffed. "We are money itself" he boasted, and just immediately, the car drove into the vast beauty of a kind view. The Whitemore build stood tall and Eminent, the golden light casting off its beauty. The building looked like the house of a British king, with the same structure and design. From the marble pillars to the gold-lit windows and the center fountain, it was just perfect.

The car came to a stop, as the bodyguards got out to open the car doors. George stared in wonder, Leo told him how magnificent his house was but this was

mind-blowing. He walked over to the other side to meet his grandfather, who had a beam of a smile plastered on his face.

"Welcome home, son."

George is still trying to take it in, "This is your house?" He asked again in disbelief, it was thrice the size of the Langston Mansion.

"Yep..." Just then the maidservants lined up, and the male servants all dress elegant, gave a short bow.

"Welcome home, Mr. Whitmore!!" They greeted,

Whitemore....the name sounded weird but powerful he had been Garcia his whole life, just then, Leo walked out,

"Finally.... you're welcome sir" he said warmly, and shook his hands then to his grandfather, "you're welcome sir.... Everything is ready" he said.

"Thank you, Leo " the old man smiled warmly, then turned to George.

"Let's go in?? A lot of people are very eager to see you.."

"Huh? What people?" He asked, and the old man and Leo shared a look and smiled.

"I put up a small party with our family friends and a few who heard of you.." Before George could say anything he pulled him by the wrist gently. "Come on, you have to say hello." His old voice mixed with excitement.

As soon as they got in, everyone stood up and gave a short bow, "Welcome home, Mr. Whitmore"

A confused George whispered to the old man,

"What's with the bows...?"

"Let's just say aside from being the richest family in the country we're kinda royalty." He cooed, "Let me introduce you to everyone.." but then stopped as he turned swiftly to Leo,

"Leo, get him dressed and ready"

"Sure, Sir.."Leo answered the turn sharply to George, "Let's go?"

George looked around, the eyes on him, none held the usual judging or disdain look in them, his chest tightened, "Let's go "

Leo led him to the elevator, the ride was quiet but then Leo broke it saying, "Your grandfather has waited for this moment his whole life. He adores you"

"Adores me?" George scoffed, "More like he abandoned me."

"It was for your own good. I'm not supposed to tell you this but we're having problems and it looks like someone is trying to distort the company, your grandfather is too old to be concerned about the affairs of the company and there are limits I can't go for the company, I'm just his PA, you're going to be a good help." Leo answered.

"So someone is trying to swindle him?" The sense of hurt immediately overwhelmed him, he realized that just as he dealt with the Langstons alone, his grandfather had his battles.

"Yes....and I’ve prepared everything. When the time comes, you’ll have full access." Leo answered.

"Good..." George answered. "On a second thought, I'm glad you are with him."

Leo smiled, "I take him as a father." He said, then the elevator door opened on the fifth floor, "Let's get you ready for the party."

But George stopped on his tracks, "about the debts ...the Langston company "

"Ah ha...with the number of shares we bought, we could buy the company."

"They used their house as collateral?"Leo stared at him and nodded shortly.

"Yes, they, did.... Why?"

"Seize it and kick them out.."

Curiosity patched his face, "Why?" Leo asked.

"I just bought it" George smirked, then said, "So where do I dress up?" He asked.

Leo stood in distraught, "In there.." he said pointing at the room, the stylist was waiting.

"Thank you..." George walked away.

Leo shook his head, "You're indeed a Whitmore...."

The welcome home party had continued, as soon as George got out of the elevator, he looked different, well trimmed and dressed in the midnight blue tuxedo suit, his hair lay back, revealing his finest features.

As soon as Mr. Whitemore sees him, he smiles, walking up to him,

"You look just like your mother" he said softly.

"Thank you for this...."George finally says. But his grandfather just nods, as he turned to everyone, it was a simple dinner party, not more than twenty guests in the building.

"Everyone....my grandson, George White more" he announced as everyone ululated in applause.

He then cleared his cracked voice and said, "Thank you to you all, for taking out of your tight schedule to pay your due respect to my grandfather.. I'm happy to be here and with time I hope to get to know you all." George said sharply, as everyone rounded in applause.

"You can mingle and get to know them " His grandfather said patting his shoulders before heading to meet with some of the guests.

A few had walked up to him, to share a handshake, a little talk here and there, finally, he was all alone, he walked over to the mini bar,

"A glass of wine please..." He breathes out. Staring at his fingers, something was missing, his wedding ring.

The glass of wine was poured, by the bartender, and he nodded,

"Thank you..." As he took a sip, a voice said from behind.

"Now who would have thought the Langston Messenger was the long-lost son of my god-grandpa?" The voice was directly familiar, George turned swiftly, his eyes popped in shock.

"Kyla?" He called.

"Hi George, we meet again." She said with a wide smile.

"What are you doing here? You work for Lily's hotel right?"

Lily burst into a hearty laugh, "I own Lily's hotel, you dummy. My name's Lily as well" she chuckled.

"What?"

"Yes...and" she looked around, "where's your wife? I'm excited to meet the woman you spoke so highly of this afternoon."

Gorge instantly felt a pang of betrayal, looking quietly at Kyla,

"Do you have a boyfriend?" He asked out of the blue.

Kyla stared in shock, "Huh?" Her voice trailed, "No...I guess...why?" she asked, her eyes darting around.

"Would you be my date to a wedding?" His heart skipped, what was he doing? But she locked his gaze at her waiting for her response.

Kyla blinked for a moment, and the room suddenly began to shrink then went silent.

  • Chapter 8: A New Love

The Langston open field had been decorated to the nines-or so the planners had intended. Each of the twelve ivory rose and pale gold floral pillars that marched the length of the yard, stood dressed in the most diaphanous white silk. Each floral arrangement, twined through the ivory roses, connected in three varied sizes of diamond and crystal chandeliers suspended by arches, strung over the rows of precisely arranged plump chairs spread over the lawn, their lights flickering in the light of the diminishing sun. Business moguls, politicians, and socialites alike sat face to face, awaiting the biggest wedding of the society season.Right in the center of it all sat a giant floral altar at the end of a long, white aisle, complete with white flowers. The scene could have been a wedding advertisement, and was picture-perfect.It was just not for the bride.Bianca stood at the opposite end of the white aisle from the guests and bridegroom who would be arriving in a few moments, her face a
