The silence in the living room was more deafening than the silence in her heart. Her voice trailed, as she finally asked,
"Why? Where's your wife?" she noticed the change in his countenance. He took a sip of the wine he had in mid-air, "She's getting married." He told her carelessly.
"Getting married? How is your....oh..my head hurts" she said rolling her eyes as she held her temples.
"Well, got divorced today..." he announced,
Lily stared in disbelief, "Your wife divorced you?" Trying to wrap her head around the possibility. "What happened?" She managed to ask,
"Don't know....but would you go on a date with me?"
"George, do you think it's wise to attend the wedding?" she asked, he smiled, taking another sip, "I want to see the man she chose over me" he answered, looking at her, all he saw was pity in her eyes.
"Don't feel sorry for me, I should have known, her money-hungry family would get to her."
Lily sighed, "Well, I guess we're not so opposite...I too have family issues. To think I wanted to sell my hotel shares to you because I assumed you had a loving family, I guess I should be looking for another buyer anyway." She breathes out, as she brushes her hair behind her ear.
"Why do you want to sell your hotel shares if I may ask?" George inquired, his attention shifting towards her.
"I'm leaving for Japan in a few days, and I won't need the business anymore, I will be taking over the family business, so I need to focus." She said, feeling a bit down, "Lily's hotel is my baby you know."
"Then don't sell it, we could help you, Grandpa and I, Leo could run it for you.." George suggested, his brows lifting "What's bad there in having two businesses?"
Lily-Kyla sighed, "Trust me I have tried and it's not like my parent would approve of those." She replied, as she took a sip of the wine in her glass.
George remained silent for a moment. Kyla noticed he was lost in thought and nudged him by the arms. "Hey...what are you brooding about??"
George darted his gaze to her, instantly snapping out of his thoughts, "Can I come with you to Japan?"
"Huh?" Her eyes widened in shock, "What kind of man is he, the spontaneous type?" Her subconscious mind said inwardly, just a few minutes ago he asked to be her date to his wife's wedding.
"You...." She began slowly pointing at him, "You want to come with me to Japan?" She finished, he nodded,
"I don't see anything wrong with that....this place is depressing already." He scoffed.
"What happened with your wife?" Kyla asked, there was something he was not telling her, something that hurt him so deeply. His blue eyes were the window to the hurt he carried.
"Let's not talk about it...it would only infuriate me more." He said avoiding her gaze totally.
"Well, if you say so" her voice trailed, as her eyes never left his. "I'm sure my God Grandpa wouldn't mind.... at least I have a friend."
George smiled warmly, "Did you just smile...."Kyla nudged him gently, "You should smile more often, you know." She smiled, "You're wealthy now." she said in a whisper.
"It's not all that exciting when you have no one to enjoy that with."
"I can...." She butts in playfully, "When we're in Japan...."
"Japan????" His Grandfather's voice said from behind, and they both turned sharply to him. "Who's leaving for Japan?" He asked again.
"I am....Papi." Kyla stood up gently, as she went over to him, Mr. Whitmore turned to her parents, "Nobody told me, Kyla was leaving...." he frowned.
"She's leaving for business school, it's time for her to take over from Terrence." Her mother confirmed,
"Yes papi, and it would be best if I start early" she replied.
"And I want to go with her." George suddenly said, and his grandfather frowned. Kyla's parents exchanged shocking glances with each other
"Why?" He asked, "You just arrived."
George sighed, "I'm still new to this, if I want to take over Whitemore Global, then I need to be prepared and get knowledgeable about the company."
His grandfather arched his brows at him," And you can't do that here?"
Leo cleared his throat, "I think George might have a point." he suddenly said,
"Don't tell me you support this madness as well."
Leo nodded, "I'm sorry sir, but we agreed to keep him under probation for a while and if the outside knows his identity now, it would be easier to make mistakes. He needs space to focus." He said softly.
The room had become silent,
"C'mon, papi..." Kyla winced,
Mr. Whitmore cleared his throat, "Well, I guess that makes sense, Leo." He said with a deep sigh.
"You will leave for Japan as soon as possible with Kyla." Mr. Whitmore said softly, "Leo and I would take over the company in the meantime while you prepare. I want you to become the best of the Whitmore clan." He said patting his shoulders. "And with Kyla, you're in good hands."
"Thank you.." George said calmly.
"When you return, you'll be fully realized Whitemore." Mr. Whitmore said with a smile as he walked away with the aid of his cane.
"Welcome to the family, George." Kyla's father said, taking his hand out for a handshake. "It must be good to have an heir.."
Kyla looked away, her brows twisted in a frown. George noticed the change in her countenance.
"It is indeed. I'm sure Kyla is wonderful, I will learn a lot from her"
I don't think so..keep an eye on her for me." Her mother resorted calmly.
"I think the reverse would be the case." He replied, seeing the conversation was beginning to go sideways, "I need to go now.... Leo..?" He called, and, with a clear understanding of the situation, immediately nodded. "Yes sir.."
George walked out, leaving Kyla with her parents. "Are they always like that?" He breathed out, Leo nodded behind.
"Uptight yes, but very good business partners...you don't know the Bells, do you??"
George stopped on his tracks and turned, "Am I supposed to know them?"
Leo shook his head, "You do have a lot to learn."

Chapter 8: A New Love
The Langston open field had been decorated to the nines-or so the planners had intended. Each of the twelve ivory rose and pale gold floral pillars that marched the length of the yard, stood dressed in the most diaphanous white silk. Each floral arrangement, twined through the ivory roses, connected in three varied sizes of diamond and crystal chandeliers suspended by arches, strung over the rows of precisely arranged plump chairs spread over the lawn, their lights flickering in the light of the diminishing sun. Business moguls, politicians, and socialites alike sat face to face, awaiting the biggest wedding of the society season.Right in the center of it all sat a giant floral altar at the end of a long, white aisle, complete with white flowers. The scene could have been a wedding advertisement, and was picture-perfect.It was just not for the bride.Bianca stood at the opposite end of the white aisle from the guests and bridegroom who would be arriving in a few moments, her face a

He said quietly. He rested his back on the car seat. George stared at him for a moment, "He knows something that I don't.." his thought said inwardly, "So.....Whitemore.....how rich is Whitemore?" George was throwing off his gaze at the window. He noticed they had driven past a gate and the serenity looked heavenly, it was night but he could see the beauty of the greenery."Rich?
