Chapter One

Tonight was the wedding ceremony of Avery Carter, The second daughter of the Carter family.

Her family and friends gathered around to celebrate the union of Avery Carter and Nolan William, the first son and heir of the Williams family.

"I am so glad we finally get to be family" Lady William the mother of Nolan hugged Avery tightly.

Everyone gathered to share their gifts and congratulate the newlyweds.

"At least he is way more useful than some worthless trash that paced their way into our family" Emily Carter, the third daughter of the Carter family said and rolled her eyes at Authur.

Suddenly, Chloe Carter, the first and most beautiful daughter of the Carter's family screamed at Authur "Hey look what you did! Just take a look, you just ruined my 200 thousand-dollar outfit… you know you can't even afford it and yet you ruin it. How shameless!"

"I am sorry Chloe… I didn't do that on purpose, can you please keep your voice low everyone is staring at us." Authur took a white cloth from his shirt pocket and he used it to dab the stain off her cloth.

"Stop this nonsense! You are ruining it more, I wish I had never married you. Stop ruining my life, you piece of trash!"

Everyone stared at Authur with a look of disgust and disdain.

"You got married to a loser and a pauper! Look at how he is ruining your sister's marriage with his foolishness, I would have never allowed him to attend such a high and elegant wedding ceremony." Lady Carter the mother of Avery sneered and walked over to the place where Authur and Chloe were standing.

Lady Carter had always hated Authur since he came into their lives, she didn't give him the same attention she gave to her other sons-in-law who showered her with gifts and money.

Two years ago, her husband Lord Carter had come home with Authur one day and begged for him to get married to their first daughter, Chloe Carter. Lady Carter and Chloe had refused because Authur was a poor and miserable man.

She wanted Chloe to get married to a rich and influential man but Lord Carter had insisted that she must get married to Authur.

Lord Carter got sick and made it known to all the family members that he would only be at peace if Authur got married to Chloe, lady Carter had no choice but to Grant him his last wish.

A few days later Lord Carter passed away and since then they had lived with the miserable son-in-law, they maltreated him and tried to make him leave but he endured all their insults and their harsh words.

Avery hurried forward and said, "Don't let him ruin your mood mum, I don't want the people to pay their attention to a beggar, today is my day and I don't want this fool to ruin it."

"Let Mom teach him a lesson!" Emily sneered in disdain.

"Apologize to Chloe and everyone now before I stick my finger up your dirty nose" Lady Carter smoldered with resentment and pointed her fingers at him, she had vowed never to call Chloe his wife.

"Do what she asked!" Chloe shook with fury, she stared at Authur with resentment, if only she hadn't listened to her father then she wouldn't have ended up with such a loser.

"I am sorry Chloe, I will find a way to get you a new dress when I get a well-paying job." Authur bowed his head in shame, he didn't like the way the family treated him but he endured only because he didn't have a home or a job.

"A Job, when have you ever gotten a job? You earn Less than 5 dollars per month and you think you can afford a dress that's worth more than you can ever achieve."

Chloe gave him a hard slap on the face and everyone gasped in shock " The entire Carter family feed you and cloth you and you can't even do anything right! you are only meant for the gutters and that is where you belong."

"Yes! he is ruining our lives and staining us with his wretched self!"

Authur's hands tightened into a fist as the Carter family humiliated him, even the visitors and guests insulted him.

He wanted to leave and hide in a corner but he would only be seen as a coward.

"Mom, I might not have money but I am sure God will make me useful to you all someday." Authur braced himself for the harsh words that Lady Carter would say to him, it was his first time to talk back and stand up for himself.

"Don't you dare call me mom!" Lady Carter burned with anger.

How dare this good-for-nothing call her his mom?

Someone in the room snorted loudly at Authur "How dare you disrespect my mother-in-law"

It was Nolan William, he had had enough of the drama, he couldn't believe the most useless son-in-law had the audacity to talk to Lady Carter like that, in his wedding ceremony.

"If not for anything, I would have asked them to throw you out of this place, You fool!" Nolan felt a flicker of irritation, he felt like tearing Authur to pieces.

"Look what you have done, you have ruined my wedding ceremony." The corner of Avery's mouth turned down.

"And what present did you bring for the newlyweds?" Lady Carter held Authur's hands and took him to the front of Avery and Nolan.

"I…I didn't have enough money so I brought a necklace for Avery." Authur didn't want to show his little gift in the presence of everyone.

Everyone watched as Lady Carter humiliated Authur, they couldn't wait to see what he had gotten as a present for the newlyweds.

"I brought a necklace, it means a lot to me" Authur handed the necklace over to Avery, it was a simple necklace and only had a tiny stone in the center.

"What! The heck is this? I can't be caught dead in this!"

"I can't even gift a beggar this piece of trash he gave the second daughter of the Carter's"

"How dare he give his sister-in-law this miserable gift on her wedding day!"

Authur's smile faded as he heard their words, he had spent his life savings on that necklace.

"Where did you get this from?" Avery stared at the necklace with disgust.

"If you didn't have the money to buy a gift then you should have never gotten one." Chloe spat at Authur.

"You always disgrace our family! And today is the last day you will ever set foot in the Carter's house" Lady Wilson collected the necklace from Avery and threw it in the floor.

"Yes kick him out!"

"Let him get out of our lives"

"Chloe is going to get married to Ethan tomorrow, well they have been dating secretly and the only reason why no one knew was because of the media, after all, he had always shown interest in Chloe and they both come from a reputable family."

Ethan was the Cousin of Nolan William, He was also the heir to his father's properties and Lady Carter had been looking for the perfect opportunity to kick Authur out of the house.

"I would give you one hundred thousand dollars to get the hell out of our lives and never come back again." Lady Carter announced and her lips curved in a sly smile.

"What no! I have nowhere to go! You can't just kick me out of this family, Chloe is my wife and we are legally married!" Authur stared at Lady Carter in shock, he didn't expect lady Carter to go to the extent of kicking him out of the Carter's home.

"I have signed the divorce papers and I wanted to give you as a birthday gift, I can't stay with you anymore! I can't stay with a nobody, I love Ethan and we are getting married tomorrow." Chloe gave Authur a dirty look.

"I am not leaving!" Authur's mouth twitched as he heard her words.

"I will give you one hundred thousand dollars that you have been shamelessly begging for, only if you sign the divorce papers and leave my family alone, all you have brought to us was bad luck."

Lady Carter's words pierced through his heart like a thousand needles, he had begged Lady Carter for a hundred thousand dollars some months ago, he needed the money to pay for his mother's heart surgery.

Authur had knelt down and pleaded to Lady Carter for one hundred thousand dollars, his mother was in a critical condition and they needed one hundred thousand for treatment.

He didn't have a choice so he begged Lady Carter and the entire Carter's family for help but they all turned him down and insulted him.

"I will sign the divorce papers without collecting your filthy money" Authur clenched his fist.

He had gotten married to Chloe because of Lord Carter and he thought getting married to Chloe would get him enough connections to get a decent job.

How could they be so eager to get rid of him? he wouldn't let them get the last laugh.

Authur arrived at an old apartment, he opened the door and peaked inside.

The room was dark and there was no light.

Authur had begged to stay in the apartment and luckily an old man gave him for free.

He only had five dollars left in his account and he had no one to beg for help.

Authur dropped the box on the floor, that was the only property he had left.

"I can't believe I let them make a fool of me all through the years" he kicked the little box in anger.

He had endured all the harsh words all through the years and even Chloe was quick to get rid of him.

She had cheated on him and taken him for a fool.

Authur bent down to pick up the necklace in the box, it glowed a bright blue light and illuminated the room.

The necklace was given to him by his late grandfather and since then he had never worn it, he had only kept it locked in the box.

Authur picked it up and wore it on his neck.
